I wish we could use it to pay for food and snacks like we do at WDW, it just makes life so much easier. Hopefully this feature is coming to Disneyland soon.
They did say it was in the works when I asked about it. But they gave no timeline so I’m not sure when we can expect that service. I find Apple Pay to be more convenient than using the MagicBand, though. And I used to us MB all the time at WDW to pay for things. I guess the one exception being table service restaurants. I’m not sure they take Apple Pay.
We finally got my teen son one on our last day of our five day trip just to try. He ended up really enjoying the bounty hunters game and we played for two hours right up until the park closed. We will all buy one this next trip this summer. They are very convenient for the lightning lanes.
Thank you for showing the special light effects. This is the most important feature to me, I will buy or not buy a new one based on this basically...so It's been disappointing to see so many videos where people don't show which special combo is offered with their bands. When you guys get new ones please show us the color combos! I hope you're all having an amazing turkey day! Thankful for you!
We’ve been WDW folks (many trips). We were even there years ago during they week where they switched from fast pass tickets to magic bands! Literally watched them move the kiosks from the ride entrances. We loved magic bands at WDW but want to make the most of our first ever family trip to Disneyland. Thanks for your videos.
That's super cool! That transition was a little rough, I remember. Those kiosks didn't work half the time and changing your fastpasses wasn't easy back then. Sometimes one party member couldn't get a new fastpass for whatever reason and then you're stuck getting a CM to fix it. Good times! Sort of 😂
We’ve had the MagicBand+ at WDW for a while and they are nice. The 50th anniversary statues were interactive as well. I enjoy seeing it interact with the fireworks as well. The bounty hunter game is fun. Hope y’all enjoy them and thanks for the video. Will be making first trip to DL in October and these videos help us make a game plan.
Those 50th statues drove me nuts the past two days. 😂 For the first like 3 hours I couldn't figure out why my band was just going crazy. I thought it had something to do with lightning lane windows. Then I realized I was getting too close to a statue or something. I thought I had to wave at them, but no, all I had to do was get near. I even turned down my sensitivity and it didn't help. It wasn't super bothersome or anything, just a little unexpected and it's like "what's going on?!"
Hi Justin, I'm still debating is it worth us (family of 5) to spend the extra money on Magicband +. All of the videos I have found about the new band are 8-9months old. We are going in June of this year. Is the only MK fireworks the only show the band interacts with? The 50th statues and the game in Galaxy Edge...am I missing anything else the band interacts with?
@@hammy6275 I was just there two weeks ago. I didn’t see any nighttime shows, but the bands interacting with the 50th statues drove me nuts. I would be walking by minding my own business and my band starts vibrating for no reason. Sometimes the statues are so close together it vibrates several times in a matter of seconds. And every time you pass by that way it sets it off again. Just like at Disneyland, WDW also interacts with some rides too. Like it’ll pulse red getting off haunted mansion, etc. But otherwise, yeah, that’s it for the + features. Everything else it can do is just like the normal MagicBand2s they have in use for awhile.
Aloha from Hawaii, been binge watching your channel since before out trip to Disneyland in March. Planning for a trip to Legoland in November, thank you for all your content. Have a great time going Aulani.
Great video, thanks. We’ll be getting them for sure in August when we visit DL and DCA! We go to Aulani every other year, so super cool we can use them there!
You can get some as low as $35. But if you're only going for a single day, then I can see how that would be a valid point. We always bought MagicBands every year when we went on our WDW vacations. When MagicBand+ came to Disneyland, we were skeptical at first, but have since bought 4 for the whole family. We wear them on every visit. Makes scanning into the parks super simple, allows the kids to do it themselves (which they love), and the "lights and vibrations" are super fun. It lights up their faces every time it happens. They get so excited. And that, to me, is worth it.
That's what I thought. My wife bought them anyways. Boy, was I wrong. Scanning into the park was super easy, no need to fumble or swipe for tickets, scanning into Lightning Lanes ⚡️ obviously, and PhotoPass too. They were ~$25 at Disney Store online earlier this year.
Really, the only thing that’s different is that you can’t make purchases with it (yet). That functionality is coming according to CMs. But everything else is there.
your videos are so helpful! my favorite disney vlogger, you should do more honest food reviews talking about taste price location, my family loves your food videos !
We have Blue Bayou coming up on June 5th. And I’ll probably try to come up with a food theme topic for a top 10 style video. Breakfast foods was something we were considering. It will just take a couple of visits to compile enough footage. 😂
Yes. That’s the normal way to do it. MagicBand+ is really new to Disneyland. People have been using MagicBands for years at WDW. But it’ll take awhile to get fully adapted at Disneyland. What you miss out on are the interactive aspects and the games.
lets say im with a party of 5 and im the only one with a magic band. will i be able to scan my one magic band to let my party of 5 in using our LL pass? or do i have to use my phone and scan 5 times like usual?
Unfortunately, MagicBands are only attached to a single ticket. So you’d need 5 MagicBands or you’ll end up still pulling your phone out to scan tickets for the rest of them on every attraction.
Interesting. Was wondering if it was worth it. Still not sure but maybe. :). I wish the old light up ears would’ve caught on - that had big potential for interactivity with the nighttime things but only if enough people had them on.
Yeah, I always thought about getting one of those, but never did. I've been using MagicBand for years at WDW on vacation, but I was hesitant to get one at DL. With out Aulani trip coming up and them working there, we broke down and bought them. And now I love them. I definitely recommend it.
Typically 3. This visit was 5, but we had from 8 AM to Midnight and no kids. Usually I only shoot one video with the kids. And then I break off to film at least two others in the afternoon.
Great video and thanks for all the information. I was looking at getting a magic pan for myself, but at this point because I’m not a magic keyholder, I think it would be useless.
We used to buy one every year for WDW and we only went once. Granted they do more over there (like function as a credit card so you don’t have to carry your wallet/cards). But MB+ is useful at WDW, DL, and Aulani, and Disney Cruises.
Unlikely. I don't know how far their RFID features work. It's possible they might not even work in your in a part of the park that's not an official "firework watching location" As an example, I saw Happily Ever After at Magic Kingdom in Orlando last night and I was behind the castle watching, and my MB wasn't doing anything. At least not that I remember. Which, if my wrist was vibrating constantly, I probably would remember that.
Question: I am going to Disneyland with my brother's family in July and was considering getting a MagicBand+ while I'm there. We are going to have Genie+ and my understanding is that one person will be able to schedule Lightning Lanes for everyone in the group. I don't think anyone else in my group will be getting a MagicBand+. Will I still be able to use mine to enter the Lightning Lanes even if everyone else is using their smart phones? If everyone else goes back to the hotel will I be able to use Genie+ and my MagicBand+ independently?
Yes on all accounts. You will use your MB+, and they will scan their phones. You can make your own LLs if you’re in the park solo by deselecting the rest of your party as you make the reservation. You’ll see the option when you’re booking. All are selected by default, you would just deselect them to use it on your own.
Photos are not loaded automatically, no, Disneyland does not have the RFID technology for that in their rides. I like our MagicBands and we use them all the time. If you have an MagicBand+ from WDW or plan to visit WDW any time in the next year, they are usable in both locations. They also work at Aulani and on Disney Cruises.
@@SoCalDisneyDaddo you know if the limited edition ones make special sounds when tapped like the old magic bands did? Because I know all make a generic tap sounds but for example the old steamboat Willie magic band made a projector noise when tapped
One person can have it. The rest don’t need it. But keep in mind that a magic band is only linked to one pass. So without everyone having them, you’d have to still pull your phone out for everyone else’s tickets.
No. The band from 2018 is a MagicBand 2 (most likely) from WDW. Only the newer MagicBand+ works at Disneyland. But the MB2 will work at WDW if you go back there.
So we watched this video last week and it helped us out a lot! We went to Disneyland yesterday and we saw you filming and said “hey, that’s the guy!”, but you didn’t hear us.
I really want a magic band +. The only thing I have heard is that it doesn't sync well with Samsung phones. But that was in the beginning. Hopefully it's better now. It looked fun all the interactions.
I don’t think it’s so much your phone. Just using the app? I mean, really, all you need to do is connect it. Once it’s connected and has a software update, it’s use is completely independent of your phone. I always have my Bluetooth off to preserve battery life and being connected is never really an issue. I’m so new to magic band, does it work with Geine+ if yes, can we just get one magic band and scan everything for our whole group? Or does each person in our group need to buy one?
It's one MagicBand per person, or maybe a better way to think about it is per ticket. So, yes, it works with lightning lane, but you'd need one per person to avoid using your phone entirely. Otherwise, you'll still need to pull up your tickets on your disneyland app for the people who don't have magicbands.
Yes, it can last about two days, depending on how much you use it. If you're doing bounty hunter constantly it might die in a single day. But for the average person, it should last 2 days. I'd charge it at night anyway, though.

So that's when you can expect a video for that. Shortly thereafter anyway. Probably Monday, June 19th? And as soon as I have news on Arctic Rescue, I will share that too. Thanks for this video. We've been using the original bands at WDW for years now. We didn't find an option to link them to our DL tickets and got confused. Guess it's Magic Band+ only for DL, huh?
This is Craig Dennis what is your both favorite hotel at disneyland what is your favorite place to eat at disneyland i watch your both new videos all the time you both have a nice safe evening👍👍👍👍👍
Sad you were disappointed with the medallions - they have sounds when you activate them too - but I think your camera picked up the water fountain too much - try the one closer to world of Disney!
I’ll have to try that. I have heard the ones in WDW, and wasn’t that impressed with those either. But the other features of the MagicBand are awesome. I see potential with these medallion type interactions. But I would love to see stuff like the shooting gallery. You know, where interacting with a statue causes a fountain to run, or something to move, etc
The newer ones ARE cooler than the old ones. I was hesitant to buy one for this very reason (I have several MagicBand 2s in a drawer). But MagicBand+ is way cooler and I'd never want an old one again.
What do you recommend to secure your MagicBands? ⌚️ I see that Annual Pass holders get Sliders to secure them 🔒 What about us peasants, what do you recommend for us non-Pass Holders? 🔗
Thanks Trevor, looks like this time my wallet will win over my heart. Question, if I book on GAT using you discount code, do you receive something? Totally clear that I will receive $10 discount.
I get a sales commission if you use my link. The coupon code is only for you. My link is in the description of every video. It’s like $20 that I receive if you book a package. I don’t know exactly. I just get a check once every 6 months. I’m still a small fry with Get Away, but every little bit helps! And just for transparency/clarification, it doesn’t cost you any extra. The commission comes out of Disney/Get Away’s pockets.
I would agree if you only plan to visit a Disney Park once in your life and once in 5-10 years. But if you plan to visit Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Aulani, or go on a Disney Cruise at any point in the same year as another Disney excursion, then I think they're worth it. Passholders at either US theme park resort will find them especially useful. Plus, my MagicBand is still in excellent condition and I see it lasting me 2-3 years minimum, which will see a lot of use.
The issue for me is will it feel uncomfortable to essentially be wearing an item that feels like another watch when I’m already wearing my Apple watch on my other wrist? I wish it was smaller or thinner so it didn’t look so much like a watch. 🤔😆
"It interacts with the rides!!" *just flashes random colors* Wow. Lmaooo disney adults are so extra. It's a band that flashes colors and vibrates that's it. Does it even tell the time?!?!??! How useless
I'm a full Disney adult and that was my exact thought too. It just flashes and vibrates. That's literally all it CAN do. I don't see the value here. It seems like another expensive accessory to manage.

Are the bands charged when you buy them?
Depends on how long it’s been hanging on the shelf. But every band I’ve ever purchased has had at least 25%-50% charge on it.
If you have a portable charger you can charge it with those. That’s how we’ve charged bands if we want to wear them right away.
Thanks for this video. We've been using the original bands at WDW for years now. We didn't find an option to link them to our DL tickets and got confused. Guess it's Magic Band+ only for DL, huh?
Correct. Only MagicBand+ works at Disneyland.
@@SoCalDisneyDad thanks for confirming. It's a bummer to have to buy all new bands but the new designs are nice.
@@TheRealOne24 The good news is that MB+ works at WDW, DL, Aulani, and Cruises. So it’s a multi-purpose upgrade.
@@SoCalDisneyDad very good point, thanks.
😂 I didn't get mine till the week after the dragon burned down but the wondrous journey is my favorite interactive feature so far
This is Craig Dennis what is your both favorite hotel at disneyland what is your favorite place to eat at disneyland i watch your both new videos all the time you both have a nice safe evening👍👍👍👍👍
Candy Cane Inn is our favorite nearby hotel and favorite place to eat, for me, is probably Docking Bay or Jolly Holiday.
I wish the standard Magic Band worked at Disneyland, we have so many and really don’t need another one.
The newer ones ARE cooler than the old ones. I was hesitant to buy one for this very reason (I have several MagicBand 2s in a drawer). But MagicBand+ is way cooler and I'd never want an old one again.
What do you recommend to secure your MagicBands? ⌚️
I see that Annual Pass holders get Sliders to secure them 🔒
What about us peasants, what do you recommend for us non-Pass Holders? 🔗
@@blackknight9558 ??? I don’t use anything with my MagicBand.
Are magicbands only for magic key holders or any visitor?
They are for anyone who purchases one, however there are sometimes Magic Key holder exclusive designs.
@@SoCalDisneyDad appreciate the information.
I haven't been to disneyland since 1994 😂 I appreciate this video and I'm definitely getting us magic bands because these are way too cool
In world of color it does that too
Yes! I can't wait to try that one out at some point as well.
you re there so often , so you really needed one both
Great video
@@SoCalDisneyDad Doneeee!!! Hopefully we see you there and say thank you when we are there.
I’m really glad you filmed this to show us everything that they do, I’ve always been curious. Knowing it all, they seem like a waste of money to me.
Hahahahah!!!! I have to charge my MagicBand every night at DL.
I have spent the last 2 days learning so much - thank you - going to Disneyland on Sat
The issue for me is will it feel uncomfortable to essentially be wearing an item that feels like another watch when I’m already wearing my Apple watch on my other wrist? I wish it was smaller or thinner so it didn’t look so much like a watch. 🤔😆
I don’t mind it. But I don’t wear a watch. So I wear this in place of a watch and it feels natural. But I totally get your concern!
Gddamnit Disney take my damn money
So you pay extra money to play imaginary games lol please 😂
"It interacts with the rides!!"
*just flashes random colors*
Wow.
