- Don't forget to say thanks if this helped you out :)
Threw this together to help beginners with the first few steps of using a pneumatic speargun, cause I couldn't find anything to help me when i bought mine and had to use trial and error.
This was MEGA helpful, thank you! I could not work out why I could not get the spear in!!!
Thanks :-)
New to the world of spear fishing, so appreciate it.
Thanks bro, new supporter here in the Philippines.. Nice video very helpful
Good on you Dale! You taught me something, I know bugger all about pneumatic guns👍🏻
NOOB SPEARO?!?!
Nice demo thanks. I think Mares should show people how to load them. I also had trouble with the hand loader as what to do with it between shots. I fixed mine with a snap buckle on the gun handle and hand tool. This has been a very convenient way to go. any other tips would be appreciated.
great video just what I needed as you said SEAC does not give a lot of info with their guns. Thanks
I have a question please - I've always used a band type. With the band type you can carry the speargun with the spear in and the band not under tension - the spear is locked into place, but no tension on the bands... Safer for me since i like to use my speargun to push off of rocks and sometimes the trigger lock is knocked over to the "fire" position. Is there a way to carry the air powered gun with the spear in and not be "committed to fire"? I mean, not ONLY relying on the trigger lock?
thanks a lot man all i needed to know was how to empty the air and you told me thxx a looot
Hey Everard, the knife I have there is shit, it rusted up all the time I was just hitting it with the steel wool to keep it usable. I've since brought a 64 titanium dive knife. It works well and I haven't seen any rust yet and I'll I do is give it a rinse off when I get back home.
Thank you for this video bro. Was worried I would have to look like a jackwagon in the local dive shop. Cheers
ive always used band guns, so have been confused with pneumatic guns, reason why i never looked at them is i thought you had to pump them each time you took a shot ( like an air rifle ) is this completely wrong? i was like no way will i sit there and tread waterwhilst holding this thing above water pumping air into it hahah, scrub i know. how many shots do you get before you have to put more pressure into it?
Hi, Q also if yhu dont mind........... i also use banded guns and im interested in pneumatic............ how many times can you shoot the gun before reloading? is it just the once or can you fire a few shots and is it hard to load?? thanks in advance mate
just ordered one no clue to how it works thanks, btw do you do the strings up like the normal speargun?
Okay thanks for the quick response, I guess I'll stick with the band type given the added safety factor, it would suck to get a spear through the head!
Sorry about this.......... i see yours is 115cms............ i have a banded 60cms gun and im wondering would a 70cms pneumatic be a huge increase in power??
so is this kinda speargun suppose to be a lot power than the rubber speargun??????
Hi Mate,
Thanks for this ... much appreciated, however I still can't fit the pump to the barrel? - do you pump it up from the front? cheers
There is a plug on the back end of it that will unscrew out and you can screw the pump in the receiver there after it is removed.
No dramas mate, glad to help out
of course there is. If you pump the gun up after inserting the spear, you will not have to bring up thae amount of force it takes to load a fully pumped up gun
sorry for my bad english
Hi! Do you know the price for the Cyrano 850? I have one after my son who pased away in july, and I'm trying to find out what it is worth. It is about 5years old, but not mush used..
I cant find any site with prices for new or second hand ones...
Sorry Terje, I don't know where to start to help you mate
www.westmarine.com/buy/mares--cyrano-850-pneumatic-speargun-85cm--16389132
Nice video mate, couldnt help but notice the knife you got there. what kind is it and does it hold up good to salt water my last one stunk and rusted after the first dive
How do you like pneumatic vs band guns? Band guns of all sorts have become wildly popular in the last few years here in South Florida, probably outselling pneumatics 20-1. However, pneumatics are preferred by the people from Latin counties for the power.
I have never shot a pneumatic gun, but it looks easier and has a cleaner profile than snaking the shaft through a bunch of floating bands while underwater.
Hey Red Reef, I've only ever shot pneumatics mate, IMO they're easier and quicker to load and reload and I've never had a breakdown, so no need to be changing bands. Power wise well horses for courses. Another bonus is once you've shot it floats to the surface. But if you buy one you'll have to deal with a whole host of muppets mocking your "fart gun".
Thanks for the feedback. Do you find you can use a shorter pneumatic than the equivalent band gun?
They can make fun of me all they want- just as long as i have fish for dinner.
Also, don't know how the sound differs under water, but sharks in our area know when a band gun goes off. You can expect company in some areas even when you miss.
@@Redreefmedia i recently shifted from rubber spearguns to pneumatic the difference in reloading
is huge no lines under shaft preventing it from locking or wraping around rubberbands and too much work
the line is easier to do even when u didnt push the shaft in u can place it then reload thats how i do
instead of being afraid to shoot to go through reloading now i shoot i think 75% more when i dive
no joke mate its legit more powerful and easier but keep in mind to get a 7mm pneumatic not a 8mm
8mm shaft is way too big and wont be helpfull with all kinds of fish , check the mares cyrano 1.1
or salvimar vuoto both are 7mm and great
How does it damage the unit if shoot it out of water?
and how would you load the gun, if you are at deep sea?
@ryddragyn I hold the spear tip against a solid surface lean against the gun butt pull the trigger and slowly let the spear out. If your in the water, im going for no chance.
just wondering - how did you discharge the spear after you loaded it? Is there way to do this when out of water?
Never unload a gun outside of the water. Always discharge it before you get out of the water. Having said that if you absolutely have to unload a pneumatic spear gun out of the water, the safest way I found is to I put the spear tip in the bottom corner of a room at a 45 degree angle, put all of your weight on on the trigger end of the gun, pull the trigger and slowly allow the spear to come out under control. This is not not safe, but the safest method I have found.
thanks would you have a recommendation for a good website that has tips on spearfishing?
btw what size gun is that 115cm?
I cant understand why still in this day and age thay won't make a button that will close all the valves so you can load it without any force. And once loaded press the button again to open all the valves so its presurized again to hunt. Would be a huge step forward that would make pneumatic guns very safe to load and there for bigger sales.
You have to re-press the air yourself. It acts as a spring. To put the shaft inside without effort will require the barrel to empty the air first, which is a totally different weapon.
@Jamesod2009 Hey James, I've had mine for 2 years and have re-pumped it up once, every time you push the spear in it reloads it's with a charge of air & it's not hard to load at all.
@krishsarox17 I haven't used a banded gun before so don't know if im the best person to ask. A pneumatic would be good as you could reduce the chamber pressure to start with and increase it as you get better, but honestly, I don't know how low you would have to have the pressure to start with so it might be too low to be effective to catch fish, but I would have to say a banded gun with a couple of light bands would have to give you more bang as you can load more pressure if you're 12
Cheers mate, big help
whats that thing at the bottom of your grip, just recvd my asso 75 and its hollow. #newtopneumatics
I stuck my knife in there, I was trying something new.
@@hyburn78 great idea! thanks for sharing
@krishsarox17 Ive got a band gun, a cressi mohawk and id highly recommend it. Although it is in the late 300s i would definitely buy one. If your 12 id get the 90 cm version as the 100 would be too hard for you probably. Don't buy a pneumatic gun because you need to pump it like 200 times to get decent spear speed. good luck
wait up, so is the force exerted in loading the spear the same amount of force pushing the spear out when you shoot? if so these guns are going to be much less powerful than a band gun
The speed of the projectile coming out of the gun is the key factor here.
Force = mass x speed, so if the ejection speed, hydrodynamics and the mass of the spear is the same for both the banded and the pneumatic, then the power on impact is the same. It will still be generally the same force exerted to load them both, remembering that you use 2 different loading techniques for loading each gun and just as you can use more bands, you can increase the pressure in a pneumatic for the same effect.
hyburn78 what you're sayng makes sense. but if i hooked the rubber onto the spear and tried to load it as you loaded that gun in the video with my rubbered gun it wouldn't be able to even get it half way down the barrel. meaning that the regular speargun with rubbers has much more power. make sense?
You may be right, you may also have chicken wings for arms haha
haha easy now mate. if you can pull back two 16mm rubber cut for a 130 cm gun with essentially one arm i'd say you're right
Haha. I don't know how to answer this one. Remembering that the pneumatics are pre-charged with pressure this may have some bearing on the ease of loading. At the end of the day you would need a side by side of the 2 guns throwing out the same spear at the same speed, to see exactly what is going on. You're a good man Blair, good luck with your spearing.
thank you, but why pneumatic why not band gun?
Way more power
@krishsarox17 Ive got a band gun, a cressi mohawk and id highly reccomend it. Although it is in the late 300s i would definetly buy one. Hi I bought mares Cyrono 850 today but ıdk how many times ı have to pump to hit fish like 4-5 m . Can u help me?
Hey Ozan, I just pumped it up until it was getting slightly difficult to load and I found I can hit fish out to 4-5m. Just take care and the proper precautions if you are loading out of the water and never fire it out of the water, you damage the internals.
ty
Will Ferrell is the pressure always stay there or have to reload now and again every few shots?
@Jamesod2009 Dolphins are good smoked I hear haha, the one I have in the video is about 2 inches shy of 4 Ft and I'm 6ft tall. Good luck with the new toy bro!
how tall are you mate?
hey ive started going out off the beach. ive got a sub seac asso 90 with just standard out of the box heads and stuff which is pressurised to 20 bar or 290 psi. ive been finding that its accurate but doesnt have much range. after about two to three feet if ur lucky enough to even hit a fish (and these are like small whiting) it doesnt reall hit hard enough to penetrate the fish and usually unless u get to it quick enough it gets free and swims off. i was wondering if anyone could help me.
Whiting are hard to hit with any gun. Try sharpening your spear tip or better still, use a multi prong tip designed for shooting thin fish. As for the gun, sounds like you haven't pumped enough pressure into it. There should be no power issues shooting whiting at sea level.
@FantasticBob7000 Hey buddy I've never had any problems shooting fish so i don't see the need, I think its easy to look at it and think there isn't much power but once you've loaded it you'll see it has shitloads.
Okay sounds good thanks for the quick reply!! iv got a 6ft spear gun (with spear in from tip to base.......... waaaaay too big.) i also have a 2.5ft speargun which is great but i need a bit more power but the 6ft is for dolphins :L haha gunna buy a beuchat pneumatic 2night im thinking 4ft tahnks again mate
Release the pressure in the gun and then pump it up without the spear in it, to a pressure where you can load the spear when your in the water.
Hey mate, you pump it up once and every time you push the spear in it charges it. I've had that gun for 2 years now and still haven't pumped it up again.
Nice helpful video, thanks!
Thanks mate
The same way, I can't see how your technique would change.
@hyburn78 well, i just wanna know which one have more penetration power ;)
Why dont you show us how to recharge the gun?
@krishsarox17 the gun comes with a pump.
thank you
Thanks mate this helped me out alot with my new seac sub caccia. :)
You got it mate, 115cm
@Jamesod2009 Sorry James, I have no experience at all with banded guns.
Thank you just got a spear gun and the included manual was chinglish
K4G3MU5H4 haha glad to help out bud, it was the same when I got my first one. Happy spearing bro!
@juanpescasub Well ideally you should pump it up with a gauge to the manufacturers specifications, but I didn't have a gauge, so I just pumped it up a bit, tried loading it, if it was too easy to load, I pumped it up some more until I got a nice pressure on it.
Don't blow yourself up mate.......... haha
@SPEEDKILLAR Sorry buddy I only have Pneumatics there are a couple of vids showing how to load a banded gun that i found........ good luck!
How much idol
@7150285 I wouldn't say it is more powerful, I would say they are as effective as each other.
That sucks balls buddy, time to move to Australia.
Thanks!
Glad to help Eddy, good luck!
hyburn78 Hi hyburn, may i ask you how often you should reload it? and how many shots i have if i reload the top pressure ? and should the reload be out of the water? i mean about reload the pressure air not the spear. thank u
Thanks 4 the vidéo
Thanks for looking after other videos on the subject first! Because TH-cam is flooded with stupid how to videos :-)
183cm or 6ft
@7150285 Haha fair enough buddy, yeah too many variables to call. It will depend on what you want to spend. Put it this way I haven't had any dramas shooting fish with the pneumatic so you should be right either way you go :)
thanks :)
its just dangerous man
@ryansimpsoncanada No Mate there isn't a way unfortunately.
@waterpologame1 you have to shoot it underwater away from people
Pneumatic Spearguns are illegal in the UK
@waterpologame1 No other way chief you have to shoot it
Why would you? There's no need to.
Haha yeah, I'm too fussy lol
Too many fish in the sea.
are you single? ;)
by the looks of this i'd say that gun is underpowered compared to a banded gun with a standard 16 mm rubber
Thanks!
thank you
