    As a contestant I recall to pick a prize, we would not see the actual video playing of the prize display. For us, there was a list of just 10 selected items written with a felt tip marker on a flipchart (550mm x 810mm). During makeup we were shown polaroid photos of what would be on offer. My son entered me on the program by posting an envelope to Channel 7 with my details and I was so excited when I received a letter advising that I was selected to appear.

    Looks like the first set for the Australian version is a little similar to what the original American one looked like from 1975 to 1981, at least as far as those green backdrops behind the contestants go.
    I've been a fan of American Wheel for a long time, and I enjoy looking at how other countries have adapted the format over the years. 🙂

    Interesting to see an episode from so early in Aussie Wheel's run with Ernie Sigley, especially considering episodes from John Burgess' run (1984-1996), Tony Barber (1996) and Rob Elliot (1997-2003) are much more common. But out of them all apparently the Burgo/Adriana era is the one that was by far the prime and height of the show's run and has the most episodes up on here.

    • @JamesJimmaHarding
      @JamesJimmaHarding 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rob Elliott was 1997 to 2003.

    • @justinmiddleton8818
      @justinmiddleton8818 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @James Michael Harding Oh, that's right. Barber was host until late 1996/early 1997 then he was gone and Elliot replaced him as host soon after.

    • @justinmiddleton8818
      @justinmiddleton8818 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @James Michael Harding Sigley's run (1981-1984) is by far one of the Aussie show's eras with the least amount of eps uploaded online. Along with Barber, Larry Emdur and Steve Oemcke in that order.
      John Burgess and Rob Elliot OTOH....they definitely have much more episodes of their tenures as host available online compared to the above.

      @JamesJimmaHarding 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justinmiddleton8818 I think 1993 to 2003 (Burgo's later years to the end of Rob Elliott's run) were the best years of Aussie Wheel. Despite the controversies of Tony Barber's run and "revamp-gate", July-December 1996 doesn't seem so bad in hindsight, and people eventually grew into the new format once Rob Elliott took over, but it was curtains for the show after Rob was replaced by the incompetence of Steve Oemcke. I got back into "Wheel" when Larry took over in 06, but sadly, the show was on life support by that point.....

    • @justinmiddleton8818
      @justinmiddleton8818 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @James Michael Harding Yes, it's clear that in the last few years after Elliot was gone the show was well past it's prime and headed downward. Oemcke was a poor choice (Basically, something like Rolf Benirschke on our version here in daytime after Pat left but at least Rolf improved even as brief as his time was, Oemcke apparently didn't even have that chance) and the show pretty much petered out when Emdur was host.
      Then there's the Million Dollar Wheel in 2008, but i consider that a separate show from the 1981-2006 run.

    A early Australian episode of wheel of fortune aired on 5/4/82. Wheel debuted on 7/21/81 so this is the 206th episode of the series. Round 2 and the bonus round are categorized as Name while round 1 and 3 are Phrase. Edit: I’m from USA, BTW.

    • @marlene.conway
      @marlene.conway  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, I got confused by the US date formating. It was recorded at ADS 7 Adelaide on 19 Mar 1982 and then broadcast 04 May 1982. Well, that is what is written on the VHS tape I have.

      @@marlene.conway in this version, you keep your money regardless if you solve it or not. You did great on wheel! Our daytime version debuted on January 6th, 1975 with the original host Chuck woolery and Susan Stafford. Chuck left on 12/25/81 and was replaced by Pat sajak on 12/28/81 with Susan Stafford. Susan’s final episode was on 10/22/82 and on 12/13/82, Vanna White made her debut. Nighttime version debuted on 9/19/83 and still airing ever since. Pat Sajak’s final daytime episode was on 1/9/89 and was replaced by Rolf Benirschke on the next episode on 1/10/89 and his final episode was on 6/30/89 and was replaced by Bob Goen on 7/17/89. The final daytime episode of the series was on 8/30/91 with Bob Goen and took a last bow after three weeks of reruns on 9/20/91.

      What happened to the good old days of Wheel of Fortune? Wheel of Fortune was a fun game to watch and that contestants win prizes. It was great fun to watch. The Sale of The Century was another enjoyable game show to watch. However both of these shows have been axed. Since the 2010s, FTA Network continued spewing up some tripe including MAFS, Travel Guides, Lego Masters, the block, just to name a few
