Really good video - Frank's step by step safe explanations were very helpful - thanks again - it was the exact same model of Philips toaster for me which made it easy to follow. I was able to fix it by cleaning the 2 pairs rond contacts with sandpaper. Little more problems for me to remove the black plastic handle and the rond 1 to 5 controller. The trick was pry it gently on one side and the other. Thanks again for extending the life of this small morning appliance!
Hi Frank. I watched your video and controlled the points that you've underlined. Everything was correct. Then i saw that the glow wire was broken on one point so the circuit was staying open. i connected the broken wires... but no success, toaster was not working. then i realized that the pin which connects to the control panel was loose. i tightened it and voila! now its perfectly working. i'm writing these extra check points here, maybe your followers will benefit. Cheers!
Your video helped me. I used a small nail file to clean those contacts that energize the electromagnet and now the toaster works perfectly. Thanks for saving me from buying a new toaster.
I fixed mine by turning over the Tiny Rectangular Metal shim that sits over the electromagnet. It comes out easy as it slides out of the plastic holder. I am guessing it was magnetised too much over time. Anyway , it definitely works now and holds down.
My old Rowenta has the same problem, and just like with Frank's toaster cleaning the magnetic contacts didn't fix it. The electromagnet somehow is not getting power. It was the first thing I tried too. But this video was most enlightening in how these toaster mechanisms work.

Use sandpaper for metal, not sandpaper for wood.😅
