So cool to see HAF again. Learned to fly at PAO back in the '80's and used to hop over the ridge frequently to do touch-and-goes and cruise the coast. Moved away from the Bay Area in 2000 and miss it a lot.
Hello, I’m seeing I can put a brs parachute in the rv9 now. I fly over mountains in va and most of my return trips are at night. What are your thoughts? Are you interested in selling . If a parachute is 40 lbs how much more useful load do I have roughly with full fuel. Lastly how much fuel can you carry.
Our RV9 has 650 pounds of useful load. Main tanks hold 36 gallons of fuel and the tip tanks hold 9 extra each for a total of 54 gallons. With 36 gallons of fuel I can take another 434 pounds with me which is plenty. Even with a parachute I would not be flying over our mountains here on the west coast at night as rescues are hard to come by during the night time. That being said, at least the chute would increase chances of survival! I've never thought about selling our bird but everything is for sale if the price is right. But for us it has been the perfect aircraft! Thanks again for watching!!

Hey loved the video and looking g at an RV 7 or 9 until I have the time to build a 10 as well. I was interested in what you said about climbing at more than 75% power into IMC, did you say it gave you the feeling of tumbling backwards? I noticed you were pretty good at staying g focused on the panel when approaching IMC, so would you only get that feeling if you were looking outside? Just curious...the mind is a strange thing. Thanks
Awesome question! The RV has a ton of acceleration on the go around. This pretty consistently gave me a somatogravic illusion. In my training I would find myself pitching the nose down instead of climbing out on a go around. When I am configured for landing full power sends the nose into the sky! To the point I'll be climbing at over 2000 feet per minute. So I go 75% power until the plane is trimmed and flaps are up. Then full power after that. I do it gradually so I do not get that illusion. It feels like I am climbing hard when I'm actually straight and level or even pitched down. Its kinda wild. I used a gopro max. It has 360 degrees of viewing angle. Once you sit down to edit the video you can select the angles you like. Its a pretty slick camera!
I did not build the plane. I will say that when I was shopping for a plane, fixed gear and a fixed pitch prop were on my shopping list. This was my first plane and I was very new to flying and wanted to keep flying and maintenance costs to a minimum. Thanks for the feedback and the question!
Great video! I’ve got a -9A with a CS prop and although it’s nice it’s probably overkill. Climb and cruise performance with a fixed pitch in the -9 is excellent, and a FP costs less to buy and maintain. Knowing what I know now, if I had built it, I’d have installed a FP and spent the saved dollars on avionics. 😃
nice video. consider filter for the camera so screens can be seen without the black bar scrolling through. First video I have seen of yours, did you build or buy the RV9. Considering building RV7 vs RV9 . Will subscribe..
I ordered a set of filters today. Hopefully they do the trick! Thanks for the suggestion. For future videos I will prob mount the camera closer to the avionics so it is more clear as well. And you cannot go wrong with either. I dont do accro so the 9 was the perfect choice for me. The longer wing really gives you great performance up high!
@@GJHeckler I am just getting used to using the powerdirector 365. There was a lot of growing pains with it as I am just a burger flipper and did not have a lot of experience in video editing. 365 really helps with editing multiple cams and lining the audio up as well. As for the audio, I just use a cable sold on amazon to go from my headset connection to the gopro in the cockpit. Super simple and sounds pretty good. Hopefully as I get better at this my videos will improve as well.
