WILD CAMPING IN A RUINED CASTLE | THURNHAM KENT

- I have been planning this wild camp for the last few months and already visited the site once before to assess it's potential for a wild camp with Candice. We returned to the remains of Thurnham Castle, high up on a steep hillside overlooking the village of Thurnham, near Maidstone in Kent, for this ambitious camp.
The weather was forecast as some 40mph winds and some rainy showers from Storm Hannah. We experienced some of these earlier in the day and had a few spells of light rain during the night, but it was mostly calm. We took our Vango Nevis 200 tent to ensure a comfortable and dry nights sleep.
After a trip to two local pubs, we returned to the castle hill and headed up past the remains of the stone curtain walls and up onto the top of the huge motte where a keep may once have stood and set the tent up.
We had hot drinks, a cider and lots of food including another ration pack before settling down for the night to sleep. We awoke at 6am the following morning to a cloudy sky with little sunshine, but the views were still spectacular. After breakfast and a speedy breaking of camp, we headed down to explore the rest of the castle site, little remains sadly, before heading home.
It has been a goal of mine for a long time to wild camp on the site of a ruined castle, and now I've finally done it! Next castle wild camp will be Hadleigh Castle near the Thames Estuary in Essex!

Hadleigh Castle is the one and only wild camp I've ever done. Gave me the willies walking around there at 3am... Enjoy!
The company that makes those fire dragon stoves & gel pouches are on to a massive winner as they have been awarded an MOD contract to supply the british army instead of the esbitt style stoves. Seem to work well but they don't burn for so long. The gel can also be used as a handwash & steriliser.
Great vid and a good few laughs despite the rain and the Tuna, did you keep the beard shavings, in a survival emergency you can use it for tinder and/or boil it down for soup, especially with all of the ration pack debris that must be stuck to it. ;) ATB
Yet another great video, I really enjoy the walks and history you provide of the areas you visit. I have to agree with you on the tuna, bloody horrible smelly stuff. The outtakes where good for a laugh.

That's down the road from me alway's thought about having a wild camp there, but never had the bottle to do it on my own!!

Thank you for another enjoyable video Tom. One think I've found with the Fire Dragon gel is that if it gets very cold it becomes difficult to squeeze out of the bottle. I hit this problem a few weeks ago when we had an over night frost whilst camping. Next time I'll either put the bottle in my sleeping bag or use the blocks to cook my breakfast. ATVB Paula

Thanks for the video Tom, can't believe you've never tried tuna before 😀 . The Mrs said you looked like the incredible hulk whilst reviewing the cake 😀 you had turned green ! Thought it might have been the tuna having an effect on you 😂

seeing you trying to eat tuna reminds me of a you tube vid “treat on hawksbill mountain with the hickery brothers” were they heat up and then try and eat a tin of PORK BRAINS IN MILK GRAVY needless to say it does not end well

Just to add Tom with the out takes when I was dating my wife , I made the mistake and said a woman hasn't got a good fart in them .
Well I was wrong boy was I wrong .
I later found out she has made two of her work colleagues physically sick with her farts .
