Nick in the first 5 minutes is me. 60 years old and nothing. But even with my health I get up each day and keep trying. I would rather die trying than not. UPDATE: My job laid me off and I decided to retire. But things are even better now. I have gone to a trade school to learn wood working like my dad. He was a carpenter. I also have taken up learning to play the piano. One of my favorite things to do is photography. I shoot houses for a realtor part time. My life is better now than any other time and I am loving it. So just keep trying. And never weaken.
Three years later. This COVID thing. Are you collecting that big unemployment comp? Skip the photography for others - You should've gotten a realtor license - houses are selling like hotcakes at high prices - 6% commission! Effortless if the house is in a good place.
that's a very utopian view of shop class. been part of many a shop class - we were never taught the principles of how to build various chairs... we never knew how to make our own chair blue prints and follow through and make it.
I graduated high school in the 80s. I sure wish they'd have given us help in this direction. The emphasis was on "get good grades and go to college" but not on translating that into anything.
Notice how nick took personal responsibility, and d I'd play the blame game. He didn't start to blame his family or society for Ho's short comings. Notice how he didn't play the victim card. He knew that if he didn't make changes in the way he thinks that he'd only have himself to blame for his failures. Believe it or not, there are people that think this way today except not enough..
Agreed. However, MOST people are bad people and will purposely make it difficult for one to succeed or they set barriers to make you fail by gossiping or making one look bad or bullying. That’s the truth of life. There’s only a very TINY fraction of people that will be on one’s side and cheer the success on. Even families sabotage. It’s vile.
This video should still be played in high school. They could do a class on vintage videos and how they may or may not relate to us now. Instead, all they emphasize is college. Most kids get a worthless degree and suffer from huge debt into their 30s. More options like trade school and local opportunities should be highlighted.
Nick?! What happened to Kay, last seen in “what to do on a date”. This is one of my “drinking games” for these movies. 1. Recurring characters; 2. Recurring Horrifying Sweater in every possible human size; 3. Special Recurring Character, Barker. Just love dat Barker.
I always look at my future. My main goal in my life is to just simply have a family. My dream job is to have a family that I can provide for, take care of, raise and pass down my traditional values and beliefs. Also, to just simply pass down my last name, my middle name, the bloodline, genes and generation. That's all I want and dream of having in my life.
One must do the work of life to be part of life. Responsibility is an important thing. A life of responsibility and normal functioning maturity brings great rewards. Every Tom, Dick and Howard idolizes movie stars, rock stars, celebrities and kazillionaires, but the person and persona who deserves admiration is the NORMAL ADULT. @CJ He actually was not all that liked in high school at all just voted most likely to succeed. I had a nice little group of friends who were a bit artsy and full of ourselves but what else is new.
Yup. When I was in high school between 1979 and 1981 we still had drafting, auto shop, electric shop, wood working, metal shop, accounting, secretarial, ROTC, and the candy stripes program. I know when my son went to school they had computer classes, but none of the hands on classes. I think they got rid of them, because of the insurance liability. It is too bad they're gone.
@@lettyguerra371 I graduated well I guess it was 10 years ago now. We still had auto shop, metal shop, wood shop, drafting and design. I took all the shop classes I could. I have lots of time to do whatever I please.... I don't have to shave or cut my hair..... I don't have a nagging wife to deal with....my kids are grown......my grandchildren think I'm great..... I can sit around and watch TH-cam video all day...... I'm not contributing to society at all.....screw society.....be free.
There's more to being free than a fuck you attitude and being alone. From what I can tell you're spewing out of spite. I don't see anything wrong in instilling core values and morals and having something to look forward to. Take your kids for example. They've grown up,had children of their own and they look ahead to their future,I'd like to assume. You think it doesn't hurt them that you're not striving for something more in life? I'm sure they'd want you to be happy. And unfortunately you may not be conforming to society or the government,which..Fine,whatever floats your boat.. But you honestly have no dreams or aspirations? :/ NO one is telling you to do much of anything. But wouldn't it be nice to have someone loving to be with you? To see your family more often? Taxes help communities,no one likes paying them, but realistically.. They pave the roads that buses, cars (etc) drive on,build the buildings and keep everything running as smooth as possible for people like yourself that use your van. If you really wanted to live off the grid, you wouldn't waste your time on TH-cam. You wouldn't bother with a phone,or any kind of technology. I've been on both ends of the spectrum with working and having been on welfare. Nothing is ever easy but it's not un-endurable. Either way, taxes must be paid, respect is always given not just earned, and people out there genuinely care about their futures rather than living on the edge. There's a double edged sword to every topic. And everyone picks their battles based on their own wants and needs. Even still. Looking ahead makes sense for oneself not just for society.
Not only are you not contributing to society, you're robbing from society. You use public facilities funded by taxpayer dollars such as roads, but don't pay your fair share for their upkeep. The fact that you get paid in cash doesn't mean you're exempt from paying taxes, it just means it's easy for you to get away with breaking the law and evading taxes. If I had one word to sum up your post it would be SELFISHNESS. You seem to care about no one but yourself, or at least you don't appear to be willing to do anything to contribute to anyone else's happiness or well-being. If everyone were like you, this world would fall apart tomorrow.
The rest of you get to work....pay your taxes.....do what others expect of you.....don't stray from the herd.... you'll die!.....those on welfare and the politicians are depending on you.....from each according to their ability to each according to their need.
