  • Mark Turner Quartet
    Brand new band led by one of the most admired saxophonists of his generation, known from Fly and renowned for his intimate expressivity on the tenor horn.
    Mark Turner tenor saxophone, Jason Palmer trumpet, Joe Martin double bass, Jonathan Pinson drums
    Mark Turner did not sit still in the past year. The American saxophonist released a successful duo album on ECM Records with pianist Ethan Iverson (The Bad Plus) and he played alongside famed trumpeter Tom Harrell in the legendary club Village Vanguard in New York. Now he’s back at the BIMHUIS with his renewed quartet.
    Mark Turner is one of the most admired saxophonists of his generation. His exploratory intellect and intimate expressivity on the tenor horn has regularly brought up comparisons with one of his great examples, Warne Marsh. Turner also stands out for his original sources of inspiration: his recent album Lathe of Heaven, released on ECM Records, breathes the same mysterious, haunting atmosphere as the eponymous science fiction novel by Ursula K. Le Guin from 1971. Mark Turner has previously played sold-out performances at the BIMHUIS as a member of Fly, the all-star trio with double bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Jeff Ballard.
    ‘Mark Turner’s sound - delicate, almost ethereal, especially in the upper register - is something we rarely hear nowadays’ (The Guardian).

      And he's the sweetest guy, with tremendous culture and passion, 100% respect.
      I had the pleasure of having him as a teacher for a couple months at Berklee in Boston, honestly changed my life.

    i dont get how these excellent players can really play for over an hour WITHOUT ANY HARMONIC INSTRUMENT LIKE A PIANO GUITAR OR VIBES after 10 minutes i am just bored ,,not enough contrast possible
    of course they are good players with alot to say BUT when you leave out AN ENTIRE CRITICAL ELEMENT OF MUSIC LIKE HARMONY YOU IMMEDIATELY LIMIT THE SIZE OF THE AUDIENCE
    it becomes an interesting novelty ,,but not a serious presentation ,in my opiniuon

    • @paullado
      @paullado 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Is not about the harmony is about the rhythm, that's what jazz is all about. Also, Sonny Rollins used to play trio and was great.
      Furthermore, this music does not lack harmony, you can deduce the harmony without the need for a harmonic instrument. Harmony is still there, is a bit more open but still there.

      YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT ,PLEASE FORGIVE MY HONESTY BUT LISTEN ,JAZZ IS ABOUT THE RHYTHM HARMONY MELODY AND COLOR !!WITH ALL THOSE ELEMENTS PRESENT YOU HAVE AT LEAST THE CHANCE FOR EXCELLENCE AND GREATNESS DEDUCE THE HARMONY WITHOUT A HARMONY INSTRUMENT ?? HAH ,,ITS NOT A QUESTION OF BEING MORE OPEN !!A MELODY NOTE FROM A HORN AND A BASS NOTE FROM THE BASS IS NOT HARMONY !! ITS COUNTERPOINT ,
      just google my name ,,you sound silly trying to justify your opinions ,and sonny rollins is 1 in a million and even SONNY RECORDED WITH JIM HALL HERBIE MCOY BUD POWELL ETC ETC ETC @@paullado

      Your arm-chair quarterbacking is making you sound old, bitter, and oddly jealous. Also, this unwarranted opinion does nothing for the music. How about instead of making asinine comments on videos that don't interest you, you go out and round up a band and make your own videos, and post them to TH-cam so that you can attract trolls as well that will complain about your comping getting in the way and not serving the music, lolol.
