  • Remove the red sun on the bottom side of the box by shifting the single pieces. A puzzle for the patient ones. Hard to predict but somehow calming.

    I was given this puzzle about 10 years ago, and I still keep it on my desk at work. Even though I have solved it many times, there is still a zen-like quality to doing it. I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of this.

    I remember this puzzle from my childhood! My grandparents had all kinds of puzzles and games in their house, and I used to spend all of my time there playing with everything I could get my hands on. Looking back, I'm realizing most of the games were educational or helped development of coordination/reasoning, but at the time they were pure fun.
    Thank you for featuring this puzzle on your channel, it brought back some warm memories.

    My uncle made this puzzle himself some 40+ years ago and it's still in the living room at my grandma's house (unfortunately couple of the pieces are missing). I never asked where he got the idea, but I remember playing with it as a kid (we made the missing pieces from cardboard).

    • @tinchote
      @tinchote 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I cannot say about 40, but I knew this puzzle 34 years ago. I played it on paper, and I also wrote a short BASIC program to play it. In later years, I've had both windows and Android versions.

      I also remember it from my childhood. I had a plastic one where the "sun" piece contained sweets that you could only access if you managed to get it to the bottom. I think that the pieces had interlocking ridges on the sides so you couldn't cheat by removing them arbitrarily as in this one.

    • @Dargonhuman
      @Dargonhuman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just made a practice version using the Draw function in Microsoft Word. Just had to turn on Snap to Grid to keep the pieces "on track".

      exactly as they are both sliding puzzles, though I did find the car puzzle more visually pleasing then the dots. on a frame. leads to more challenges without boredom. I have most of the card sets- this setting sun is more closely related to the "safari" themed sliding puzzles, also by think fun.

    The best general strategy with this type of puzzle is to get the smaller pieces next to the piece you want to move so that they can 'flow' around the object piece like a thin fluid.

    I count 112 moves in the included solution - I can do it in 100 moves.
    I had this puzzle as an old PC program, and I solved it years ago.
    Of course I couldn't remember my solution, when I bought this very nice wooden version, following one of the links in your description (by the way, it arrived surprisingly quickly). But after a little struggle I found it again, and then - only then - did I check the “official” solution.
    To my surprise I found that my solution has fewer moves and is, I think, a little more elegant. But now that I think of it, I seem to remember that the PC app gave the fewest possible number of moves as ninety-something (94 maybe?), and eventually I did work it out back then, but I no longer remember how.
