    I’d love a Plex vs Emby in the new year. Maybe throw in Jellyfin too for a “free” option. 🙂

      I second that motion! Maybe live with each for a couple weeks, see how each performs, check out the respective communities. I occasionally check in to see if anyone has done anything unique or interesting. So far, neither has anything shiny or new and my Plex keeps humming along, doing everything I need it to do.

      I've been doing this for the last few months, 3 containers that pull from the same media library. It's fun to compare, but unfortunately, jellyfin doesn't have a lot of apps. Have to say, after the newer PMS came out, kind of been using Emby and JF a lot more. Each has it's quirks but feels as good or better in some areas, and less polished in others.

    • @pngates
      @pngates 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chefbennyj Jellyfin isn't bad, only one to have hw transcoder with their free version of the server. In fact, Plex, Emby, and Jellyfin are all based on the same media server, they each just handle tasks slightly different and display information their own way.
      I go to JF first these days, but I use Plex and Emby just as much.

    I would love to see emby versus plex. Things I want to see.
    Maybe start with the shield pro as a test platform and test.
    Codecs, dv support(profile 5 and 7, FEL and MEL, mp4 and mkv. These are all super touchy for plex. Android can only handle mkv dv and all others only handle mp4 for dv on plex.
    Subtitles
    Dts x and truehd atmos support.
    Speed, and transcoding
    Then maybe test other platforms? To be honest it would be quite complex. But if done right would be wonderful to see.
    I did start doing this but emby just had way too many issues with various formats at the bleeding edge for me. Like DV issues. Emby did always handle high bitrate stuff better though and transcoding is a bit more friendly on emby.

    You can expand a Synology array but only if you pick Synology Hybrid Raid (or something)
    A normal RAID can't be expanded

    • @fthorsen
      @fthorsen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      YES, you can expand a RAID! Please don't comment on things you don't know...
      For RAID 5 you need a minimum of 3 disks (without any hot spares). You can then add as many disks as you would like afterwards, but they should be of the same capacity and model.
      Synology SHR allows you to add larger disks to the RAID and get some extra disk space for the newer larger disks. I just did this myself. I went from 10TB x4 in a RAID 5 on an Asustor NAS. I migrated to a Synology just for the SHR so I bought two new 16TB disks. I migrated all data from the RAID 5 to these two new 16TB in JBOD mode. Then I moved the 4x 10TB disks to the Synology NAS, created a RAID-5 and moved all the data from the 16TB JBOD to the 10TB RAID 5. Then I added the 16TB disks to the RAID5 SHR, and I got more storage than if I didn't use SHR. Also, when I one day in the future get rid of the 10TB disks, I will get full use of the 16TB drives.
      Ps. I think KillaBitz is confusing RAID with ZFS. ZFS can't be expanded, and therefore many consumers don't choose ZFS (and it requires a lot more powerful HW).

    We need TH-camrs that clearly don't know what their doing but try anyway, as long as they're honest about it and warn the viewer upfront.... Take it as a entertainment and watch me fail type of video 🤷🏼‍♂️ why not.

    The library scan in Emby is exponentially faster than Plex. What takes hours to run in Plex takes minutes in Emby.

    In your Emporia power monitoring review, you showed approx 70 kWh used for the day. At $0.12 per kWh (avg price in KS, I think - yours may be different), that's $8.40 per day.... Do you make enough off mining to pay for that? Just curious.

  • @fthorsen
    @fthorsen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes! Plex Pass vs Emby Premiere vs Jellyfin please! HW transcoding on Shield and a Intel CPU (NUC) would be awesome.
    I just bought myself Emby Premiere and am moving away from Plex Pass. I life the interface of Emby better, and I think Emby is much snappier at least for local use (which myself primarily use this for, family use external and transcoding). The initial feedback is that remote users managed to play back some 4k HDR content which didn't work with Plex on the same server (Nvidia Shield).
    Three thumbs up for this!

    My Plex is hosted on Unraid. I had a catastrophic fail. Lost 3 drives in one hit. Parity drive + 2 data drives.
    I've accepted the loss of data. It sucks, but shit happens.
    My question is, before I replace my drives and get Unraid back up and running. Can I access my Plex metadata and get a list of all the media it thinks is there? Just so I know exactly what I've lost?

    coming late to the party, so might be talking out the wrong orifice until I watch the solar videos...... If I get to play with solar, (50vdc system) I'd be curious to try some 48VDC PSUs for my gear, bypassing the two APC 2800W UPSs I currently use. Supermicro has them, as reference that they exist. Also a backup generator for the coming grid failure.

    Emby > Plex for the simple reason they aren't collecting data about your media server. Even if Plex weren't, I think the functionality is much closer now given Plex have disappeared down a rabbit hole of trying to provide you with their own content.

    You can't do A Raid with just one drive, you can add-on yes but you won't be able to start a riad without reformating the primary drive you need at least 2-3 drives to start a Raid-0 or a Raid-5, Raid typically clones/mirrors the primary drives and puts it to another so one drive fails you can have a back up on that existing Raided drive and once it's replaced the new drive takes over for that raid array as the back up drive.

    Having major issues with plex fast-forward and rewind of DVR recordings. So, I added Emby to my server, FF & RW work great. Plex is starting to focus on too much added crap with these TV channels that I will NEVER watch. They want the network money, so they don't want you to FF through commercials. Compare Emby to Plex.

    Built-in TV suck even $100,000 in the new smart TVs The apps are still slow everything still sucks and then you have to worry about support because you know they always stop support do you think like oh clogs 6 years is still works yeah a TV should last until you want to upgrade a TV just needs to be a TV I shouldn't have to worry about stupid apps That's why it's better just to get a side device that you can pay for how much performance you want
