That number decrease by several thousands each day since a lot get stuck on the worker's shoes. They go home everyday looking like they have a couple of porcupines for feet.
Honestly seems a bit wasteful that it takes an entire tree for just one toothpick. I think you could two, maybe even three, out of a tree if you really tried hard enough.
That was my thought too, there is a ton of inefficiency buried in these machines. His joke about the factory floor containing more toothpicks than the boxes felt like a good poke at that xD

The billet machine actually just takes long strips of trees and coils them up because people are more interested in making their own tree rings, rather than letting nature do it.
There are a few episodes on this series that I consider to be true classics: Bacon, Chocolate, Oysters, a few others. But this one has definitely joined those ranks.
Soon as I heard "big steamy logs" I checked to see when this was uploaded. Then after "if the machine is left on for a week" I realized the whole channel is probably just jokes.

The steak knife looks to be an expedient fix. That L-shaped rail used to extend further to the right; you can see the full grey areas where it broke off. Looks like some genius JB welded a knife onto the machine to keep the rail in place, and it’s still holding up today!

the machine at 3:53 at the slowed speed works at about 200 bpm, whcih is the same speed as 115 by Treyarch Sound, Brian Tuey, James McCawley, and Kevin Sherwood
