In this video, I present 10 important investing tips that I've learnt through the years. A lot of it came through investing mistakes and with rigorous reading and experience, I have been able to customize these for Indian investors like ourselves. Here, I shall be talking about investing goals, the role of time in investing, the building blocks of a good investment portfolio, investing risk & return and many such concepts. To put it differently, I shall attempt to build a path through the sea of ignorance :)

Mr Nath, your new AVATAR as our Investing GURU- is outstanding.
Thumbnail, Presentation, Content, Data, Visuals, Editing and YOU - superlative.
Starts with the magnetism of Jason Bourne or James Bond movie - but transform quickly to the level of indepth classics of Christofer Nolan

Thank you Dr. Mahanta .. for this cinematic comment :) .. I love trying out different topics and presentation formats & I'm glad you are liking it. Nevertheless, the hero of the movie is still the content
Oh, and speaking of Avatar .. I thought the first movie was better. Getting a sequel right is no easy task and very few have upped it. Namely:
      a) T2: Judgment Day
      b) The Dark Knight
      and c) The Godfather

This is an amazing video Shankar. Though i have been investing for a decade. Must say there was a lot to learn.
Especially the risk quadrant, did lead to a wry smile. I have followed and felt the need to chase canslim models, sectoral funds, baggers, or index investing.
Though these seemed as the most novel ideas, there is no avenue other than patient, boring, consistent and risk free investing to generate the best returns.

The high quality narration and graphics, relevant and sensible content delivered in a gentle and un-frenetic (is that even a word??😄) manner, the whole thing laced with wry humour and peppered with cinematic references… really hits the sweet spot for me every time.
Do keep making these great videos, and I wish you and your channel all success in the coming years 😊👍

I think frenzied is the word you were looking for .. or rather the antonym of it. Going back to Wren & Martin, if the base word is from a Germanic language, then using "un" is appropriate but if that word is Latin, then the proper prefix is “in”. I'm sure this doesn't take away the confusion (neither yours nor mine) on when to use "un" (or "in" or "mis" or "not") .. but atleast we have something to confuse others with :)

Thank you for your kind appreciation. Yes, investing is evolutionary and after every video I make (primarily on account of the research it takes), even I make small & big changes to my thinking. 1. At how much fall of index, should that additional investment be done? I mean is it 1% or 2% or 5% or something else?
      2. The additional investment is 1% of what? i.e. is it 1% of corpus or annual SIP or something else?

My investment of 1% additional investment of investment amount and not on market value. It is helping to create accumulation of more units. I mostly do it with Nifty50 index. Also do when there is breakdown of Nifty mid cap 150 index in large and Mid Cap category.

But I've done some research on the past and the price of gold has gone up by 9-10% p.a. over the last 40 years. However I should mention, within those 40 years .. there have been some periods (as high as 7-8 years), when the gold price was flat.

Shankarji, Thanks for sharing your experience. I would add a very vital factor and i.e. "LUCK" . say with just 3 commandments # 2. Patience. #3. Strong foundation & #9. Checking lesser times, you can achieve stupendous results over a period of 20-30 years with compounding. I am 65+ and I made huge gains with zero knowledge, only with patience and coffee can investing. Luckily for me few couple of initial public offerings of just 100 shares turned into few thousands. Definitely my approach was wrong and a new investor should follow all the basics. Nonetheless, luck played a crucial role in my case. Also liked the thumbnail as Ten commandments is among one of my favorite epic movies, imagining Charleston Heston's muscular body with your body was really imaginative.😀

Thanks for sharing you experience and opinion. Luck is an important part of investing (and life in general). Infact, a lot of us associate luck with what one or someone lese receives ... but think sometimes not getting what one wants is also a wonderful stroke of luck esp. when it comes to IPOs.

I only have a 1:1 paid consultation. Patrons use it to discuss some parts of their finances, get their questions answered and organize their wealth. It's suitable for people with 75 lakhs to 3 crores in wealth (excl. house), mostly salaried people. If keen, please use meet.rpy.club/shankarnath/ to pay & schedule a call.

Checking the portfolio is sometimes good. I learn a lot when I correlate it with global and local behavior. It's not harmful if we take it with curiosity and wonderment and learn, and take notes. Slowly, we become emotionally immune to the ups and downs.

I don't understand this portfolio checking. I won't see mf portfolio. I just setup sip and leave them. Incase stock I often see the portfolio. If I see stock in my portfolio reduced 5% or higher I will buy little bit more. Whenever I have money to invest I just visit the portfolio and buy some stocks in cheaper price.

Hi. If choosing stocks is the concern, then why not opt for a mutual fund? An AMC employs a professional team of analysts to do this part.
