    Need to go back soon

    Your timing was better than mine. I entered the trail at about 7:30 at dusk. Everything seems a lot tougher when the sun goes down. I like the perspective.

      Thanks for checking it out! Yeah I wouldn't enjoy that route in the dark. I do want to try it one more time before the season is over.

      @@dustyroaddestinations ...I also noted you were in much earlier than us if the water levels are any indicator, especially at the last crossing. I had no problem crossing nor wading while fishing, and I doubt I'd wade in that water flow you were seeing.

      @dustyroaddestinations  ปีที่แล้ว

      @SaharaSeparators yeah I should not have tried that especially by myself! I think I was there the first week they opened the gate so it was really early. Hmm might need to go that way this weekend to see how it is now. Once the weather changes that route won’t be open for long.

      Thanks for commenting. I figured this video wouldn’t gain much views BUT I know I would’ve appreciated this video BEFORE I did that trip.

    That’s awesome. Planing to do this in a few weeks. When did you take this?

    • @dustyroaddestinations
      @dustyroaddestinations  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wednesday July 19th! If you head out could you let me know how the water levels are? It seems like they may have gone down? There is a chance I might be out there again this weekend myself - just trying to finalize plans. Oh and thanks for comment on this - I know a drive through isn't the most exciting video BUUUUT I know I sure would have appreciated this before I went out. All the other cool story videos make the trip seem shorter than it was when I did it.

      @@dustyroaddestinations Thanks. Sure, will do. Well it seems like our plans to go there will be push to September. So if you go before we do pls update me also on the trail conditions. Thank you very much.

    This is my backyard. I live in Lake Isabella. (Yes I'm a lucky bastard.) Thanks for letting me know how deep the South Fork of the Kern is. LOTS of water this year. I think I'll be heading just down the road to Big Meadow for this years Perseids Meteor shower. (Aug 10-14)

      @dustyroaddestinations  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice! On the way back I took Sherman Pass so I could see the river and lake levels - man it's impressive! It looks like I'll be back in Monache during that - it should be impressive from there as well. Big Meadow has been on the list for a long time so I'll have to make it there as well! Thanks for check out the vid Aaron!

      Since you mentioned it I think I'm going to head out there this weekend. Maybe do Landers Campground/Piute Pk on Friday after work and then Big Meadow on Saturday.

      20S22 to 34E38. The video is of the 34E38 part of the monache 4x4 jeep trail

  • @tylermalmsten3170
    @tylermalmsten3170 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Did you need 4x4 to go up the rutted section in the beginning of the trail on your way back? Last year two of my 2wd buddies got stuck

    • @dustyroaddestinations
      @dustyroaddestinations  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s a good question. Honestly on the way out I aired down and for most of the trip kept the truck in 4low - not because I needed it but so the coasting speed was nice and slow. I didn’t do that on the way in and I’d start rolling faster than I wanted. I guess the other thing is when I was there not too many people were out there. On the way in I didn’t see anyone on the road and on the way out I only passed 3 vehicles coming in.
      The one rutted area that I don’t think I could have made it through had a flat easy trail right next to it.

    we did this trail last year i nour OFT trailers and definitely alot more difficult i na off road trailer. This is the only video that has the entire trail. Most people just edit and show the easy parts

    • @dustyroaddestinations
      @dustyroaddestinations  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Paul for saying that. I felt really conflicted on posting this BUT I knew I wish I could have seen a video like that before I drove through it. Yeah that seems like that would be a tough route pulling a trailer.

    Are wood fires currently ok?

    • @dustyroaddestinations
      @dustyroaddestinations  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a really great question and a little confusing. This is why I say that. I came in up through 9 Mile Canyon off 395. The first sign I saw on the way toward Black Rock Station said only gas fires. So I didn't do a first (plus I didn't bring any wood or anything to do a fire - just my firecan program thing). HOWEVER... On the way out I took Sherman Pass down to Johnsondale - the sign I passed on the way out was no fire restrictions... So it was really confusing. I did see another guy who had a fire, but if he came up through Isabelle or Bakersfield then the sign he saw said it was ok.

    • @dustyroaddestinations
      @dustyroaddestinations  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was up there last weekend and Monache was specially listed as a fire ban - down the road toward Big Meadows there were no fire bans at all - so that was the confusion I had before - it was two different areas with separate postings. But at Blackrock Station it was clearly marked with a fire ban - propane only.

      LOL yeah 2+ hours is a bit much. Mainly posted it because I would have appreciated this BEFORE I drove it. I have a clip on my instagram where I nearly lost my truck on a river crossing. I dropped into a hole and my truck wouldn't crawl out of it - I slammed it in reverse and traction control got me stuck again - luckily I "kinda" calmly turned it off and then finally got myself out... Thanks for checking it out though
