Actually we use a multiplier of the root(3) ≈ 1,73 times more power for the same voltage and current conditions, but anyways, a 6 phase system (I guess) would only give a multiplier of root(6) ≈ 2,45. Considering that we would need 6 lines in that case it would be beneficial to rather run 2 x 3 phases in parallel, thus doubling the lines carrying current capacity.
But still ceasing them compatible with existing infrastructure and not having to sets shifted at 60° angle😅

When reversing the direction of motor's rotation we change just two phases, in case of six phases supply system the reversing will be complicated and time consuming.

I'm imagining a system where power is generated by a 6-phase turbine, but distributed by existing 3-phase utility lines; 3 phases go one direction on one set of lines, and 3 go the other direction on the other set of set of lines. Each of the 3 delivered phases would be 120 degrees out of phase, as they are currently. The only thing to change would be the turbines to generate the power, and slightly modifying the transmission lines to head in opposite directions as they leave the power plant. Would this work?

A 6 phase system is just two 3 phase systems with 60 degree phase delay. You can try to pack them into a single 3 phase delivery system.
Also with double the wiring on the generator stator the resistance on the rotor is doubled. Energy doesn't come out of nowhere.
A 3 phase delivery system can be seen as three PAIRS of single phases with 120 degree delay each and cancelling out their loopback cable since it's always zero amps. Sounds like SWER (use earth as the loopback) but not even involving the earth at all. More phases will NOT reduce the number of cables per power thus meaningless.

Well, in theory you can run 2 three phase motors using 120º phases at the same time, phase A, C, and E to one and B, D and F to other. Both will run at max power, with "no change" in the consumer side. Apart from, more 3 wires, and 6 phase breakers.

  • @joaobaptista4610

Long distance double-circuit 3-phase transmission lines can be converted in 6-phase lines using transformers at both ends. Operarional complexity and cost increments gets thus restricted to the zone between both conversion transformer banks. In this case 6-phase exceptional regions can coexist with the convetional 3-phase bulk system. This possibility is an alternative to HVDC for long distance transmission, in which the increased power rating can justifty the cost increment at the substations.

Intro music is a straight rip from idubbz content cop ( -- __ --- ), #1. Anyway after watching your video, you analogy makes no sense about 3 wheeled vehicles since 4 wheeled vehicles are the most common and by you analogy motorcycle's would be better than a 3 wheel. So let me break it down for you and anyone else reading this comment. 1 phase would = wheels and power = GVW. so yes the more wheels a vehicle has the more complex but the more it can carry., Basically it comes down to distance . #2. You didn't even talk about Application of more than 3 phases. Such as what solution would higher phases solve? without cost and complexity aside. hypo thecal scenario, is it better to use (2) 3 phase generators to get the same performance as a 6 phase? using your same analogy, Maybe instead of wheels, We can think of it like how many cylinders to an engine. A 4 cylinder is less complex than an 8 is but a 4 cylinder is more complex than a 2 cylinder motorcycle engine. You wouldn't use a motor cycle to pull 53 foot cargo box would you?

@@brettmoore3194 to make it simpler think we have 100V and by adding degree for eg degree A has 0-degree angle b has 20 degree and C has 40 degree and so on, we get 24v between A-B 48 between A-C 70 between A-D and so on and let the Z be ground,
if we connect any phase(that is from A to R) to ground we get 100V and that is not worth it
unlike 3 phase system where we connect RYB which are 120 degree apart so if u connect R with Y or R with B it will always give 440v so anymore phase would be of no use to transportation it might be used in electric cars for torque if u arange in right order for eg if u connect A with B u will get 24v C with D u will get 24v if u want to increase it connect A with C u will get 48 and if u connect B with D u get 48 volt and so on, u can use it for torque, regen brake etc.
