The real problem isn't reservations. It’s that our country doesn't have enough opportunities for bright students in general. Take NEET as an example: in 2023, over 2.1 million students competed for just 120,000 MBBS seats. That's less than 6% of applicants getting in. Even if reservations didn't exist, the majority of students (from all categories) would still miss out. What we really need is more seats, better colleges, and accessible resources for everyone because removing reservations won't magically solve the problem. Reservations aren't about unfair advantages, the literacy rate for SCs is 66.1% and for STs it's 58.4%, compared to 82.2% for upper castes. Without reservations, these inequalities would only deepen. I know it can feel frustrating when someone with a lower score gets in, but we have to consider the systemic hurdles marginalized students face. Most NEET qualifiers (over 85%) come from private coaching institutes, which many SC/ST students simply can't afford. And even with reservations, they make up less than 15% of students in top institutions like ITs and AllMS, despite having a 22.5% quota. That tells you how much harder they have to fight to even get there. Rather than targeting reservations, we should push for real solutions: more seats, better colleges, and equal access to resources. Blaming marginalized groups for a broken system only distracts from the real problem.
@@dontmisimi you can't just assume that many of us (upper caste) come from private coaching institutes. And what about fees?? Reservation is not a problem there it seems?? We have to literally pay 7-8 lakhs upfront and lower caste can get admitted into top universities with a lower score and paying in what 1000 rupees? These entrance exams are there because of the Indian mass population. More than 65% of the population is st/sc if you are so poor why do these people have so many kids if they can't afford kids. Look at China the Gaokao exam is the most difficult in the world and there are no reservations That's why China's economy is going to cross the USA in some estimated years. I really appreciate how you said we need more resources as the entire Indian education system is rigid.. but again you were saying how it's difficult for them to get into colleges l mean yes it is but our (upper caste) chances are even less than 1%???

I am a Rajput, most of my close friends are Brahmins and Rajputs. This was sheer coincidence, we became friends first and asked each other's castes like years later. A friend of ours, a very studious one at that, achieved almost 100% in all the exams he tried, be it competitive or school exams. Later I got to know he's from a lower caste, but the man wanted to prove himself and he did. That he got in on merit 100%, no special treatment, Really surprised me that he was driven to prove himself so bad, can't imagine the remarks he had heard. Not from us, anyway. Still a close friend to this day.
I wish I was like him. I also want prove that I can do it without any advantage. I can understand concepts but I am not able to score. Thankfully my friends do not talk about caste and sh*t at least in front of me. I am studying in good school so that can be a reason. I am really grate full that I got supportive parents specially my father who is professor. As long as I don't talk about my caste everything will go smooth. Right now no one has insulted me on basis of caste and I hope it continues this way and work hard like my upper caste friends (this is first time I have yapped about my caste in internet because of your video).

Casteism is deeply rooted in indian culture and history but over the years it's meaning has been morphed to support the narratives of political campaigns and for creating an illusion of superiority over the others. There are a lot of minorities who still need the reservation as a means of economic upliftment but the general public need a deeper level of understanding of the same. Kudos to you for discussing this matter
Most caste-politics are about freebies, though? The majority of India isn't upper caste, and the majority isn't as educated or financially well off. There have been systemic problems for centuries, but appealing to vote banks with freebies is a slippery slope. The most caste-superiority politics is done by OBC jaats, ironically.

I'm from bihar bodhgaya and you'll not believe that most of my classmates like 98% have Kumar as their surname no matter they are sc, st, obc or general.
I felt so validated after watching this. As a "creamy layer" lower caste person ,there aren't many places where out internal struggles and experiences are talked about. Despite our economic privilege we still experience caste in though in a less sinister way. Thank you so much for talking about it , it must have been really hard to decide if you want to talk about it or not on such a public platform which can lead to people further dissect you.
As a privileged person who is from ST, I have seen people criticize me for getting benefits of reservation even though I belong to a pretty well to do household. And honestly, they are right in that feeling that this is unjust because i dont need those reservations. However, the hypocrisy starts when I see those very people say things that are so discriminatory. I scored 97% in my 10th boards and have been good academically. One day a friend of mine (who didnt know yet that I wasn't from gen) was talking bout how people from ST and SC are so laid back and dont bother studying and how they are so disgusting living in villages and getting married at 15 (this is a just a part of the many things she said)and then she had the audacity to tell me that "oh you're good at studies because youre from general na?" And i was so miffed at how they were talking that i couldnt even tell them I was from ST because they would have ditched me then and there(Mind you, this same friend was always one of the low graders that barely passed and she was from gen so idk maybe she forgot about the term "potential"). So yeah, people say they dont want reservation because discrimination no longer persists and the same ones do shi like this. They need to understand that discrimination isnt always in stuff like not letting people sit next to them and other things but also in the little things they do. Get rid of your discriminatory mindset first then talk bout getting rid of reservations
Can't agree more, I have seen majority of these general hypocrites(not all) who have this type of mindset are actually losers, barely manage to pass and score average grades. They exaggerate so much to a certain level that they blame the reservation system. People have the tendency to complain a lot than finding solution . I have never seen successful candidates complain, because they know complaining won't help. Yes indeed I understand this can be frustrating for general people when they see stable SC/ST people make it through unfair advantage. Me being from SC/ST also fall under this bracket. Instead of complaining we should reduce the cap of reservation for privileged SC/ST people and at the same time caste discrimination should be observed in rural areas where it's peak still after 75 years.
Jyada woke na ban... don't say you are privileged so you don't need reservations...Your money won't matter when they'll give you less marks than general category and kick you out from many jobs just because you're SC. They don't give a shit about your privilege.

This is so my experience. I am sc with a changed surname and preparing for NEET. My friends on the other hand have no idea about my caste and I often hear them passing casteist remarks and stating how unfortunate they are to be born in an upper caste family. It used to break my heart and I always thought that I'll be taking something away from them if I get selected and they didn't. I discussed it with my father as well and all though he is a DSP yet he faces discrimination from his seniors and folks and he told me to take up every opportunity that I get to make my career. I know that I'll never be able to tell my friends about my caste because of my fear of judgement and discrimination. Edit: Let me adress a few things here for people who don't understand my point. Even if reservation is removed, 98% of you general caste peeps still won't get a government college but I yet don't see enough people holding the government accountable. Although I do understand student's frustration but removing reservation will still keep you frustrated plus you'll have no one to bash when you don't get selected. You're never truly gonna understand caste based discrimination until you are someone from a marginalized category. Having financial success does not mean a person is entirely free from caste-based discrimination. Like I mentioned my father facing discrimination, my uncle's office colleagues not wanting to eat at his house, my cousin sister who wanted to be identified as who she is but latter changed her surname because of the bullying in school are just few examples of discrimination amongst the so called "creamy layered" society. And don't even get me started about 'ch*mar' being an offensive swear word thrown around by people just so casually as if it's not someones literal caste. If it wasn't for reservation I would wouldn't even be able to speak up in front of upper caste people. Not being able to open up about my caste to my friends was less about NEET and more about the fear of being looked down upon and social segregation. Many of you might argue that you'll never discriminate but I can't help but notice caste being mentioned everywhere, from nasty but huge influencers like Rajat Dalal to Instagram bio mentioning "proud kshatriya". Don't get me wrong it's great that you're proud of who you are but then why are you making me feel so inferior that my only way out is to change my identity. I hope that I made myself clear and if you just wanna talk about reservation and never caste discrimination then you can cry about it forever. Even foreigners see and sometimes even mock India for it's rigid caste system (like pewdiepie) but Indians are still either participating in it or just being downright ignorant. If you're still pissed about NEET then hate the game, not the player.
i understand and i was warned against the same because people have such fixed mentalities but it will reveal a lot about “friends” around you. people who know you will know how capable you are, they will respect you beyond stupid things like caste. you don’t need to justify and tell them a sob story about your family’s experiences for them to have basic empathy towards you. be proud of what you are and thats how things will change. it’s the least we can do for the people who have suffered before us and are still suffering.
understand their situation too, you're talking about NEET, which is hell for general category peeps, even 650+ isn't enough nowadays, whereas for SC/ST peeps, even 400 is enough to get in. now obviously, the cutoffs are low because most SC/ST peeps are not in good conditions, but yes, the ones which are, get an unfair advantage, which the general students are frustrated about. i understand this problem very well, by changing surnames, you may avoid some of the remarks you may get, but on the other hand, that leaves no meaning to the "reservation is for representation" agenda, if you can't stand for yourself. all in all, our country has flaws, nothing can be done. edit: (just so y'all know, i'm a general category male)
so many capable students shouldn’t be fighting over a mere number of seats to begin with. it’s not the fault of SC/ST students but the lack of accessible higher education and infrastructure in general. the pressure should be on the government to create more opportunities instead of hating on lower caste students who are literally changing their surnames and identities to not face discrimination. general category students often benefit from cultural capital, access to better guidance, mentorship, and preparatory resources that SC/ST students typically lack. this unseen advantage is rarely acknowledged in such discussions.

Growing up, I didn't really know much about caste, but I was always aware that my parents' relatives were poor. My father had the opportunity to work in the central government thanks to reservations. I didn't face much discrimination because of his hard work, but I still heard remarks like, "Tujhe toh achi college mil jayegi", when applying for colleges. I got into a really good college in Gujarat, but that's when I started feeling outcast. Our roll numbers were assigned based on merit; with a total strength of over 300, the students were divided into five groups. The first two groups were those who got into the college through JEE, and groups 3 and 4 were those who got in through ACPC/Gujcet. I was in group 4. I often heard my juniors make fun of people from groups 3&4 for not knowing proper English, as most were from the Gujarat state board. Even though I was a CBSE student, hearing those comments was very humiliating. Throughout my life, people kept asking me what kind of "Patel" I was, only for me to realize later that they were actually asking about my caste. I can't really complain much-I had a privileged life thanks to my dad. But sometimes, I'm reminded of the differences when I see others living the kind of life I might have had if my family's background were different. Great video, though! I would like to add a few things about how we can see casteism on social media, too. People from lower backgrounds are often labeled "chapri" and are constantly mocked for the way they dress and present themselves. A lot of it might seem cringey, but calling something "cringe" and calling it "chapri" are very different, in my opinion.

this was SO NEEDED, I (Sc) myself preparing for NEET see so many ppl only spazzing on reservations saying sc/st are as rich as general and stuff like that but fail to realize that reservations have never been about the lower caste being "financially" equal rather socially
Lmfaooo also so what if few sc's are rich and well to do, not to mention there might be sc's who are rich but rarely if not never a brahmin who is doing manual labour work like working to clean the streets etc... goes to show the proviledge tgey have as well lol
Then where is reservation for africans? Who were enslaved faced apartheid? What's this nonsense then? Where is reservation for ugly indians who get treated like shit in america?🙁 Where is reservation for slit eues chinease who get generalised for eating dogs even if only 5% of them eat😶 Where is reservation for jews? Where is reservation of kashmiri pandits?🙁
Reservations are not making you socially equal they are further broadening the divide, If I got into a cllg at score 650 I can never see someone with 450 as my equal
i have faced this too, I found out I'm sc during my entrance too, my parents never disclosed it to me till then, because they don't believe in that too but I've seen extreme lower caste discrimination and I'm glad I was safe from it, my perspective just drastically changed since then, I still don't don't disclose my caste because who tf cares, I'm well educated and cultured and thats what matters, nowadays due to internet sanatanism these things are coming back, the hate I've seen always makes me fear the people around. Indian society will evolve the day they leave castism behind
Casteism on the Indian internet at least wasn't as common in the early days (i.e. 2019 and before) The democratization of the internet brought the most regressive illiterate people online.
Fr, been using internet since MTNL days and Indian internet communities weren't this toxic. Jio revolution should've never happened. No wonder why we get cooked so bad in the rest of the world
@cocaa_colaaa you're right, a lot of Instagram comments are predatory towards minors and I can guarantee at least 30% of these people are masking their true identity beneath "Dark Humor" Another thing is these people genuinely tweak out when you make fun of God or the military (they suddenly hate dark humor now)
Earlier before jio, broadband internet was a luxury and there weren't many lower caste people on the internet anyways, so there was nothing to be casteist against online.

One thing I want to add. People who says castism only exist in rural india, just google castism in top companies in google, apple , netflix etc that to in USA. Because when upper caste go their they take their castist mindset with them.
Bruhh if congress doesnt have a parsi mp it doesn't mean congress doesn't support parsi's it just comes out to be that they don't have parsi mp. The same is with jobs just because it comes out to be that upper caste people are seated in good posts doesn't mean that they gone till there by Casteism
From a completely logical standpoint : people from "upper" castes have nothing to do with this shi. It's just that those people working for those companies have enough money to work abroad. I am half upper caste and I don't have the money to work or study abroad, yet I can't apply for FAIR scholarships without hoping someone less deserving got the scholarship just because they're lower so they get more pity from the education board. Why? What did I do? By your victim mindset, this isn't castism though is it? 🙂
This video is highly researched, and I truly appreciate the effort that you put into studying and presenting information about casteism and reservations in such a thoughtful manner. As someone from an oppressed class, I feel proud to see someone tackling this important issue especially that someone is from the ‘lower class’. Blatant hate and caste discrimination on social media is so very real. I even stopped using Instagram and Reddit for the same reason. Interestingly, the same people who do this discrimination usually cry out on the internet when they see racist posts or videos against Indians. Thank you for making this video, and please keep up the great work!

Thank you for shedding light on this important topic Misimi. I wish you strength and happiness. I deeply resonate with your thoughts, as this issue is incredibly prevalent yet often overlooked. As a design graduate with a Master's degree from IIT Kanpur, I have witnessed its reality and the profound impact it can have on one's life. Fortunately, I’ve been fortunate to meet remarkable individuals who recognized my merit and potential beyond caste biases. However, I’ve also encountered others who casually dismissed me in ways one wouldn’t even anticipate. Let’s continue striving for equality, standing up for every individual, and dismantling the superficial notion of so-called ‘pure blood’ superiority. At our core, we are all the same.
U are so true. All my life i have been told by my parents not to tell my caste to the people around me so that i don't have to face discrimination. It's also true that how much my fellow classmates used to talk about being proud of their caste and being told by their upper caste families to not sit or even talk with the lower caste people. Let alone the fact that i was in an ICSE school still i had to see all of this happening around me. Till this day i feel ashamed and my mind goes blank when someone asks me about my caste. The fear that i have is can't be described. Fear of losing the ones who were with me all these years is scary. But i am glad that i have also met few people who doesn't ask me about my caste two minutes in to the conversation , and just loves me for who i am. And Just to show u what living in india being from a lower caste feels like - me and my family lives in a Punjabi colony ( No hate to all the Punjabis out there but what i am going to say is not really Just about you ) so people in my colony always avoid talking with us . Specially the aunties , they always make my mom feel very excluded from all the kitty parties , evening walks, they even avoid talking with my mum . Like just being sweet in front of her but never wanting to include her like a normal human. Not only this but I have heard countless stories from my mother of her being discriminated throughout her life. My mother is is well educated and now she is a teacher, but one thing that is different between my mum and these people is that my mother always teach her students to never discriminate , treat everyone equally no matter the gender or colour. It's really not about the caste it's about the kind of person u are.
I'm from OBC I didn't knew about caste system until I moved to India from abroad. Because in school it was quite prevelant to ask about caste for admission, exams etc. When I was abroad we barely know about caste it was just Indians regardless of caste. Caste discrimination will be wiped out only if caste system is removed from India. But no political party has balls to remove caste system from India since it is good for their vote bank politics. Reservation won't solve the issue as its been 70+ years already & there aren't much changes in the society. Discrimination won't exist if other people don't know the caste of other person. Ban caste from matrimonial sites, educational institutions, caste surnames etc. Then we will have real changes. Financial assistance should be given to economically backward families instead. Else we are already witnessing brain drain in India due to many smart talents moving abroad.
I agree with you. the reservation system in educational institutions had led to a cycle of discrimination and hatred wherein the lower caste get benefits due to discrimination and the upper caste discriminate against them because they are favoured and the so the cycle continues.
@@VinayashaPaswan-nn9vd Problem is same last name alone won’t solve the issue. Eradicating caste system & no caste based name is better step. In Bihar people still ask for caste which is why same last name isn’t doing much.

So glad to see more people of our generation talking about casteism. It is such a deep rooted problem and avoided by those who don't directly experience the horrors it has inflicted. Being from a Malayali Christian family, I myself never came to realise the depths of casteism that is still prevalent. My family never covered caste or even most societal issues for that matter. But, as I grew up, seeing the unfairness of Indian society made me delve deeper into the topic and realise how much casteism still affects literally every single part of the country. Now, living in the center of Urban Bangalore, just seeing how almost all of the BBMP workers, who wake up early every morning to clean the shit, literal and metaphorical, that the urban upper caste throw out every day are of lower caste, it makes me realise that caste has never left us. It will never go away, until we develop an education system which properly tackles societal issues including casteism, and until the government develops better reforms to help aid those that truly suffer from the caste system.
I think this problem is deeply rooted to the core no matter how lenient you really are , some part of you is still the same . The problem with the reservation situation is , when as a general category student you see a vast difference in marks needed , it gets demotivating. But the thing that we can't see easily is that the "lower cast" (idk why we call it that) have been denied of information and opportunities that this actually uplifts the . I don't think reservation is the solution and i also know if not reservation then what ? I just dont understand this world and i am tired of it
This is a praiseworthy work you did Misimi ma'm. Thankyou for speaking on this problem. In Indian the main root cause of every problem indirectly or directly is So called casteism and its founding religion. And upper caste person argue reservation by saying foreign country rely on merit ((Since merit is subjective term))not on any quota system But they don't even know that America has given Reservation to black named as " Affirmative action" even in private sector along with public. Also say that Reservations should be on economic basis but when they do discrimination on any person they check the caste not economic standard .

Good to see younger folk talking about such issues. Caste cannot be eradicated only by reservation. Social dialogue like this is also equally important. Keep up the good work.
as a sindhi teen from general category, I'm glad Sindhi Hindus, atleast in India have never adhered to the caste system or maybe some do, idk. maybe it's because of the incredibly low population of us in india but i digress. growing up, we never had caste discussions in our household but ig my family, unfortunately is against the caste based reservations because identifying ourselves by "caste" is such an alien thing for sindhi hindus. we tend to bond over our language and ethnicity only. i still dont know nor care if I'm a brahmin or kshatriya or vaishya whatever lol. thank you sm misimi for making a video on such an important yet neglected topic like this.
Sindhis do have communities, but they’re more like sedentary tribes than “castes” because Sindh (and also Punjab) are peripheral regions where brahmanical authority is not that strong. Many of these Punjabi and Sindhi tribes like Khatris, Jatts, Kambojas actually migrated from further north in Central Asia or Afghanistan after the establishment of the Varna system in the sub-continent. They don’t traditionally have any position in the “caste” hierarchy but some, like Khatris, accepted brahmanical authority later on, for which they got a “Kshatriya status” despite being merchants by profession. Irony is, the most casteist group, Rajputs, are actually composed of peasants and tribals who managed to acquire land and accepted brahmanical authority. The Brahmins gave them “Kshatriya” status and made up imaginary lineages connecting them to actual kings who were called Rajput (son of King).
Caste is NOT alien to you Sindis BECAUSE , The Hindu Sindis who are still in PAK are MOSTLY Dalits . During partition only the previlaged and rich could escape from the Ashrafs and they BLOCKED these Dalits to enter India.
@@timepasstubee Sindhi who migrated to India were not rich most of came barefoot they also have their own struggle they also struggled financially and yes they didn't face discrimination which is not having disadvantage rather than having advantage Sindhi were not socially backward community so they became rich by hardwork and their expertise..

I discovered what castism is like im college fr. To me, its insane how people, people we look up to or people who i assumed to be wise and old can so easily discriminate on the basis of where you were born, its like logic and morals just left the chat. I hope that made u realise that reservation can get u college easily but won't finish castism. So reservation is not helping. Alone education can help to finish castism N if u think st sc r poor then welcome to economic based reservation
I'm Assamese American, and it is impossible to have a lot of meaningful conversations about caste in the Indian (and Assamese) diaspora in the states, because many of the Hindus in the USA are Brahmin and get very tense about the subject. Brahminism, caste discrimination and other such topics can make the energy in the room super awkward with the drop of a single word. Also, going to Assam, I made friends with a girl who didn't share the surnames of either of her parents. It was only later that my father told me that people would give their children a "caste ambiguous" name to shield them from casteism. He was horrified that it was happening in Assam.
Thank you for this Video, I cracked Jee mains and Jee advanced but after getting to one of the best NITs in North India I got discriminated against, there are many caste groups in my college, still roaming in that city for rooms they ask the surname before giving the room. Reservations is basically there to unsure the represention of a the chunk of Indian population which it has been denied for 2000+ years. Hats off to you @dontmisimi for sharing your own part of the story, it js definitely not easy to speak about this to a gen z audience, especially as a person who herself is from the very background
Your story is so much like me. I too belong to the SC category but with a surname that people would perceive as general caste (my dad changed it for himself and now I also have a different surname than what my grandfather had) I grew up in a teir 1 multicultural city where ethnicities were more discussed than caste so I had no clue on what caste is and what discrimination is. But the moment I started preparing for entrance exams everbody was suddenly so discriminative. I was the brightest kid in the batch and I would always get comments like "Tu kyu itna padh rhi h tu to SC ki h" And I just found it weird. But the things did not stop after entrance. College is even worser. Here not everybody knows my caste so bcoz of my surname they think I'm from the general category or from "higher caste" and would approach me to talk and befriend but the moment they find out I am from the SC category, they run off. Things are so new to me, I'm still adapting, still learning how to not get affected by such things. Your video made me feel seen and heard. Thank you so much for making it. Subscribed. Lots of love ❤
absolutely real, when i tell my friends that its STILL being practiced they are like nah we are genzs why would anyone discriminate blah blah but there are SO MANY PEOPLE WHO OPENLY DISCRIMINATE IN OUR CLASS BASED ON CASTE. one of them went "humara khoon toh kshatiryon ka hai whyd we even be friends with sc sts" ???????? Once one of them hatesd this guy for being a teachers pet toh she went "pakka sc st ka hoga mai toh inke kareeb bhi na jau"...and the reservation thing especially people dont consider ki sc st people do get in on the basis of merit as well! Whenever any sort of puja is done, my parents would call themselves lower caste and avoid touching the pandit directly. In the villages of my parents side, being an sc st our community people live at the very end of the village and no one of the upper caste would enter that side. My parents never told my about our caste until i got to know myself and asked about it, I was told not to tell anyone about it. At that time i thought no one could care less about my caste, but i was so wrong. Being rich or poor only affects how openly one is discriminated, if poor youll def be openly targeted and if not people will talk about it behing ur back, either ways u will be discriminated.
Just because some people discriminate based on caste does not mean that you were denied the same education and opportunities as the general students of your class. It's like saying that I was bullied in school because of my darker skin so I should get a reservation... Social discrimination is a sad reality, I agree. But the fact is that discrimination did not lead to opression or denial in education or opportunity. Hence the preferential treatment of reserved castes in selection in higher education and jobs create a unfair playing ground where students with same kind of education are treated differently, hence igniting more discrimination based on reservation and the sense of unfair unequality it gives to the SCs. the village experience you mentioned, I agree is a reality too. But not in Urban India, The above paragraph is in relation to the Urban Indian context, as for the Rural Indian context, I wholeheartedy agree that for the social and economic upliftment of Rural India and the SCs of Rural India, Proper reservations should be given to them because there the discrimination often penetrates their rural schools. But also a wider reservation must also be given to the economically weaker classes of India, because as you said discrimination is open in economically weak societies, where it starts to translates into opressive exclusionary acts. But to equate that with the discrimination of urban India is simply unequal and unjust since in urban settings it's a discrimination that never translates to anything, equal opportunity and education stays.
@@dewy_droplets that's the same as saying jail all men, because majority of criminals are men. But hardly 2 percent of the total male population are criminals
@@mr.d3051 I understand some of your perspective, but caste-based discrimination is deeply rooted and persists even in urban contexts, often in subtle tho impactful ways. Discrimination isn’t just about overt denial of education or opportunities; it even includes systemic and societal barriers that hinder confidence, integration, and access to informal networks critical for growth. Urban India may provide the same textbooks, but the psychological and social setbacks caused by exclusionary attitudes are significant. Reservations aim to address centuries of structural exclusion, not just immediate discrimination. They work to LEVEL a playing field where generational privilege still influences who gets access to opportunities and the influence of the upper caste in high positions. It’s also important to note that many SC/ST individuals succeed on merit, yet they are unfairly labeled as “beneficiaries of reservation,” which perpetuates stigma. Framing reservations as unfair overlooks their role in correcting systemic inequities and risks fueling resentment, which worsens the very discrimination they seek to reduce. Instead, I feel we gotta focus on addressing inequities without undermining the progress made through these policies.
@@CiskoLunar-mk3yw The "jail all men" analogy doesn’t fit here because caste discrimination isn’t about isolated actions but deeply ingrained biases that still exist-even among Gen Z. As you pointed out, people openly discriminate in class and beyond, making judgments based on caste regardless of merit or economic status. Reservations aren’t punishment but a way to level the field for communities that still face systemic bias. It’s not about individuals; it’s about fixing a larger issue.
you think i don’t know that? thats the point of changing the surname so that it’s hard to tell the caste? are your 2 braincells working overtime and still can’t figure such a simple thing out?

Being a dalit It takes lots of courage to openly talk about caste system in India & also getting benefits from it in the name of reservation as a birth right for generation after generation, I seriously don't understand when will it all ends & equal opportunity happen to all . Seriously don't know when
You yourself stated that growing up as a person in an urban setting, you didn't have much understanding of caste or even faced any discrimination UNTIL you sat for entrance exams. Because it's true than most people in cities, especially the younger generation, do not discriminate or even care about caste. It was you getting reservations that pissed off your general category friends, and rightfully so. Your maid's daughter will not get the reservation because people like you who don't NEED reservation, take it, and use it as an unfair advantage. I'm all for reservation as long the creamy layer, especially people with access to the best tutions, books and opportunities, are left out of it. That will help people from lower castes who are actually backward, from rural and underdeveloped places, and not just on paper. Imo, all the 'casteism' that you faced stemmed from watching a rich person with all facilities getting reservation, not actual casteist prejudices. And fyi, someone getting into your dream college with a rank that is triple of yours feels equally bad as the so called casteism you claim to have faced.
i think there is a creamy layer thing for obc people, because i myself didnt get a caste certificate because of my parents income. but i dont know if it exists for sc st people.
Misimi could you please create a video exploring why India is often perceived as one of the worst countries to live in and why there seems to be racism towards India from people in other parts of the world? ❤ Also Excellent video! You’ve done a fantastic job of shedding light on the truth and presenting it so honestly. Truly appreciate your courage and effort in addressing such an important topic!
Casteism isn't a problem that can be solved through reservation, in fact it will increase the heat between castes. Besides that the government should focus to support economically backwards people(whose "major part is lower caste"). The lack of "lower caste" people in higher ranks/jobs isn't only caused by casteism but majorly due to corruption and lack of qualifications which is problem for everyone. So government should focus on giving improving free and quality education and provide opportunities for economically weaker classes.
Reservation is just a representation of a particular community in the administration. It empowers the particular community in the discriminating society leads to improvement of social status. Brahmins are powerful not only due to Varna System or Brahman Dharma but also due to their participation in administrative power sharing. So get out of here, your idea is useless.
Unless you are able to erase thousands of years' worth of history and culture that actively promotes a societal hierarchy based on caste, and even harder re-educate the entire Indian population on TRUE principles of equality and a MODERN civic sense, then no, it is impossible. You may claim to have good intentions but don't contradict yourself by turning a blind eye to the reality that is that casteism is a system that is inherently discriminatory and incompatible with any form of 'equality' or 'equity', and that much like any power dynamic the upper castes will always defend it, willingly or not.

But the thing which has happened in the past decade and especially since the Implementation of the 1992 Mandal Commission Report was the 27 percent Reservation to the Shudras was also provided as OBCs... and after 1992 this Casteism and Caste Based Discrimination Discourse was completely Hijacked by the Brahminical minded Savarna Upper caste Peoples and the discourse was completely snatched away from the lower castes hands by the RSS and the human mobilization of RSS towards the Babri Mosque in Ayodhya and its demolition in 1992 and created an atmosphere of violent extremist religious fervor in the Country by violently and Religiously Fanatically proposing the creation of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on top of demolished Mosque and they did created that Ram Mandir on top of it But there is still no proof to this date that there was any Hindu Temple Structure, it is publically said by the Archeological Survey of India in the Supreme Court Hearings that there was no CONCREATE evidence of any Hindu Temple architecture below the Babri Mosque after its demolition happened instead the ASI found some Relics of Buddhist Stupas and also a Jain Temple Structure below it. Being a ST category man, I just used to think (in school) that why people leave me after knowing my last name. And people say there's no casteism in 2024. Lol.
Janeu is not a symbol of upper caste. It's a symbol of purity, people who are not Brahmins by caste can also wear it as a sense spirituality. I had a friend who wasn't Brahmin but he still used to wear janeu because he was really into spirituality and religious scriptures.
@@coolguy-zm7tn Brother whatever you are saying is not right and really shocking that you are still thinking like this. I'm an upper caste Hindu but I never cared about it even when my parents and other relatives tell me to be proud about it i don't think there is anything to be proud of, you are born with it you didn't earned or something like that and if you haven't done any extra ordinary for something, i don't find anything to be proud off. And I don't also care about other people's caste even one of mine bestfriend is from some lower caste but I never cared about and 1 year ago i didn't even know this until one of my friend told me that she is from this lower caste and all I said that well it doesn't matter because I never shown any interest in her caste or a other person caste. My take on this will you should not care about people's caste anymore we are in 2024 grow up there are a lot of things u should care about.
@@TejikaBhardwaj You can't change Casteist people, they will remain frustrated with reservation till they die... Fun fact:- Even politicians can't do anything. Everyone will say it's because they are. yes, they are also part of this for their own benefit, but it's out of their hands now...
Great video, I'm from mp and currently working in Bihar in government schools, and I'm living with a family in village, I knew caste existed all the way but to see and feel the judgements and practices is a different feeling. The worst thing an urban elite can say about caste is, the practices and discrimination doesn't exist, as you said caste is so well masked in our society, liked that line. Good content
is casteism a problem in India: YES is reservation unfair: YES All credit goes to the people who started this cycle of casteism which led to reservation and then led to hate because they have a reservation law, nowadays most of casteism I see is "They take the seat", it isn't much about the blood thing at least in urban areas
@@ツAnshツ tell me a single good thing which reservation has done since it was introduced in india . Also some examples of these reserved students being on a post of power in private companies
@@Vk9970-p3b Study brother study, without reservations , many sc/st and even obc's couldn't have been uplifted. the caste system doesn't allow this. that system wants the sc/st to do their work not the rich man's work or work of authority. also it doesnt allows them to study.
Thanks a lot for making this video!!!! The generation of our parents had a chance to break these casteism barriers by simply denying the ideology that their parents tried to push on them. But even educated Brahmins of that same generation not only have accepted it but also are actively propagating the same under the guise of "pRoTeCtiNg oUr CuLtUrE". Just like you said at 10:42 that casteism is still around us but better masked. This decision on our parents' part is what is indoctrinating upper caste youth into adhering to the same ideology, especially in these times of high academic and professional pressure where the youth is actively searching for someone to hate for all of their problems and failures. And I can say this about Brahmins because I am one. Casteism is so ingrained into our social lives that my parents had to point out these things behind the backs of our relatives and family to make sure we don't fall into such bs. And they couldn't do so openly because the Chinese whispers would've killed off their professional and social lives in our native state.
I'm from Bihar and caste is a very big thing like it's the first priority for everyone, here everything happens on the basics. I'm very thankful to my grandpa who worked hard and that's why we are doing great. Love your video, caste it's a big problem but no one talk about it. Caste discrimination seems like world problem like racism. I'm saying that because of the recent anti-inflammatory discrimination law passed In Seattle, USA.
I am belong from a upper caste (maratha) and l scored 98%centile and still couldn't get into any top colleges in India.. further more most of my classmates who used to belong to sc/st or OBC categories used to always make fun of me this continued till college. If there is 3-5% upper caste population in india and the maximum population is lower caste so you think only people from lower caste deserve education what about equality??? Most upper caste are working on a bigger post because they have always been 1st in every academic year. Additionally, we also have to pay lakhs even if we come in merit and people from lower caste have to pay what only 1500 inr?? There are so many campaigns in india for equality in education which justifys to just give reservation on the basis of merit and not caste.. atleast provide equality in education.. Even Dr. Baba ambedkar saheb fought for equality!! I am sorry been following for you for so long but this video looked biased..
its the ancestoral karma you're suffering nothing more, you get to enjoy the ancestral advantages so obviously you're going to suffer their karmas too and also most of the lower cast people are poor you cannot just pick handful of rich people and call the whole community rich and about equality, you can never have equality because when you were not even born equal how do you expect equality? lower caste people were oppressed and even tortured for centuries ofcourse you'll have to give them back the resources that were snatched from their ancestors, and most upper caste people work on bigger post not because they have always been 1st in academic but because they HAD opportunity they HAD resources, like when india became independent general people had generational wealth and resources while lower caste people were just starting to live like other people so tell me who would have a better chance of having higher education and jobs, the family that has employed and educated members or the one just starting out? and about the video she just told her experience nothing more how is that even biasness? is it biased just because she belongs to sc st? its you that has a very limited perspective on casteism because ofcourse how will you even have it when you were privileged enough to be just born in the upper caste and never face the discrimination and even the torture those lower caste people still face on daily basis
You are right and she's even avoiding most of the comments. Controversy= views And ofc the MAJORITY of the population will support bcz ofc the are larger in numbers
Mi pan 96 kuli maratha aahe ani tu khup vichitra argument det aahes. Babasaheb fought for the upliftment of marginalised castes. He fought for RESERVATIONS. Jaativad hi gosht hazaro varshanparyant chalo rahili aahe. To destroy the caste system and caste based discrimination that has been so long rooted in our culture, how can you expect only 80 years of reservations in public sector and education to do the job? Reservations are NOT about financial upliftment, they are about representation and a continuous upliftment of caste based communities. Additionally, Marathas are the largest caste in Maharashtra. There is a difference between traditional high castes like Brahmins and Dominant castes like Marathas, Reddy, Kamma etc. "Merit" is subjective. The entire indian education system is wrong and hazardous to the health of our nation and our youth. Instead of educating, organising and agitating against such an unfair system that was invented just to create a sheep like workforce for the British, you remain uneducated about the realities of caste and education and agitate against an easy target like reserved category students, because it requires less work and is more popular
Mannnn! This video is actually relatable, I've faced many similar situations like that , when I was in class 3rd I asked my dad what is the meaning of "caste" and why they are filling SC in the diary column then my dad told it was some kind of code used in address just to avoid telling what it is, and my dad told me to never tell my caste to anyone. I was like okt you know curiosity, I asked my tuition teacher " Didi, what's your caste? Are you SC" and then she replied "Chi.... we are not that people, we are clean people I'm pure Brhamin" and from that day I understood why I have to keep it as a secret. Fast forward Highschool, you know during admission of 11th grade they ask for caste and percentage. Then friends peeped into form and they said " WHATT!?? You are Sc??!! But bro you are very good at academics and even scored 90 percent, how can you be a SC? you don't look like one." Then from that they used to mock me for my caste, ...and friendship didn't last long. I really really appreciate you for making this video. I know you would be facing outrage and trolling for this video, but don't care about those people. Keep pushing forward! You're doing an incredible job, and your videos on engaging topics are precious. Stay motivated and keep sharing your creativity with the world! 🙌✌✨
To be honest, when i was in school in like 7th or 8th grade, I had also become a casteist and used to look down on my SC/ST classmates, and I FELT REALLLY ASHAMED OF BELONGING FROM OBC!!!! Now that i look back i think about how stupid i was, but when i think about , I felt that way because of my "upper caste classmates and teachers" who used to look down on us.
Hey Misimi, Brahmin here. It's a damn shame that people still practice caste-based discrimination. I for one, come from an educated background and therefore I have never once discriminated against my SC-ST friends. I have friends who are Shakya and I have friends who are Verma (SC/ST Verma) etc. With that out of the way I'll put some points below that are worth thinking about: 1) If you think caste-based discrimination doesn't happen with Brahmins you're dead wrong. Recently in Shivpuri district a Pandit was killed by a dalit man and he was also blackmailed for days that he'll enact the SC/ST act. The reason you have never heard about it is because we're easy punching bags. Its easy to dehumanize us, demonize us because we're like 5-6% of the population. There are casteist slurs even for Brahmins. Might I also add due to extremists like Suraj Yengde who's facts have been proven wrong again and again just saying "I'm a Brahmin" abroad is enough for people to consider you a caste-supremacist. 2) Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar brought the reservation for only 10 years. That means two things: 2.1) If it worked within that time frame there will be no need. 2.2) If it didn't the policy fails. It must be noted that congress extended this for vote bank politics. Dr. Ambedkar never wanted this. Also, as a Brahmin and a Hindu I am greatly thankful for Dr. Ambedkar. 3) The reason people go "You don't even need to study for you to get a good career", and it's true. In one government exam the cut-off for the exam was in negative for SC/ST. Meaning if you left the entire paper blank except for your name and roll no you'd have passes! Having studied in IIT Madras, there used to be special classes for people from SC/ST classes who do not understand rudimentary math. And no, they weren't people from some tribe they belonged to well-off families with established businesses. So, its a stigma and that comes as a consequence NOT a casteist issue. I'm not saying that SC/ST people are not intelligent. You have Pranav Mistry matter of fact my friends that I mentioned in the beginning both got into NIT and IIT and I feel they didn't even need reservation such was their prowess. Another friend, Manjhi who's in ASU pursuing PhD in astrophysics! Point of discussion is, I like to watch videos that challenge my world-views and yours was not one as I agree with most of the things I said but I can't help but feel its a very biased take probably because you don't have much exposure to the other side of the coin. I think that people suffer irrespective of their caste. A poor can be a SC/ST or Brahmin. But, a poor is none. A poor is poor. It doesn't matter who offers him help. Reservation should be on an economic basis not on caste basis.
Thank you. This is probably the single best comment in this entire video. But sadly it won't get much attention. I also have respect for Dr BR ambedkar. He did what was right for that time. People are just using it for votes now. Common questions: 1. Well so much discrimination was present. We should get something in return. - Yes, there's still discrimination but this clearly shows that reservation isn't helping. If anything it's making it worse by picking people who are misusing it and making this system worse. There was no OBC reservation. OBCs are the biggest landowner in India. 2. If it's removed the poor people experiencing it will never be able to get out of it. - That's the issue. Just solve that instead of giving people easy way out. Ban discrimination it's a crime. It was never written in any religious text what's upper or lower. All are equal and should be treated the same. Anyone saying one is upper or not. Is just a criminal and should deserve the treatment of the same. 3. Reservation is just a helping hand and is needed. - What the poster of this video said in other reply is that it's like giving help to someone who can't walk properly to run. No. Reservation isn't that. We're not helping. Helping is providing them the resources. We're picking non ideal people to give a chance to run our country. Which is making it worse. Countries like Japan, China, a lot of European countries also had this caste system. They never implemented this. Some of them had caste system as bad as us because of similar traditions. See where they're now. What we should do is make strict laws for discrimination. Doesn't matter what caste. Against any caste, religion color race etc. That's it. It'll solve this completely. But sadly we already have these cult mafias that you mentioned in both ends who won't want this to happen. But if people will see the actual issue then there's nothing these mafia/politicans can do. They just use these views people have to influence and gain power.
@workoutaccount1931 True. Trying to imagine a no divide and rule politics is like trying to imagine a new colour. The caste census was done back in 1931 by the Britishers ofcourse and congress brought it back 90 years later because of votebank politics. It must be noted that Britishers divided Indians into 2 broader castes and 2000+ sub castes. The 2 broader ones are: 1) upper caste: Indians who fit the eurocentric beauty standards. 2) lower caste: Those who don't. Key word, "Eurocentric" There was also a survey done back in the late 19th century of Madras where they showed which Varna has how many kids, SURPRISINGLY, for every 1 Brahmin student there were 3 Kshudra students. Official numbers were somewhere around 22k Brahmins and 73k Kshudras (rough estimation). Additionally, I think it is REALLY needed for us to revise our history. There have been many art pieces (by Britishers themselves) that depict Mehar, Sunar etc. who sport Janeu and apply tripund which are today seen as exclusivist which clearly wasn't the case. Time and time again foreign forces have tried to divide Hindus. First Mughals, then Britishers then communist (contemporary). After India's independence all the education ministers have been hardcore communist, take Maulana Azad for example who was a staunch supporter of the Khilafat movement and wanted to start it in India. It's an entire left ecosystem that has hidden and defiled the remains and true history of our ancestors.
@@workoutaccount1931 Caste system and caste discrimination will continue until Hindu religion is destroyed (Same for other religions in india too), if this is possible then that is also possible... Nah, right? 😂... Don't worry, religion will be destroyed after 500+ many years... There is nothing we can do about this.
Read constitution reservation is not based on caste. It's based social and educational backwardness. You got brainwashed by your bramhinical sources. First read constitution then speak
Bro that is the major issue with every SC/ST person. We think that people will judge us or won’t make friends with us. I also used to feel the same in my college and school days. But this should change and I gradually started reading more about our past and society as a whole, this gave me more confidence and since then I really feel at ease when I tell people about my caste because there’s no fear of judgement from anyone. The more we will be open about our backgrounds the more we can grow as an individual and as a community.
People need to realise that reservations are given by maintaining administrative efficiency. Socially and Educationally Backward Students are being selected on *merit* basis and are *actually* scoring marks better than 60-70% of candidates.
Well, I am from Assam too and belong to the OBC category. Never in my life have I faced casteism. Both my mother and father are graduates, and I’ve never heard them talk about facing any kind of discrimination despite being OBC. One more thing,I’m from a small village that you probably wouldn’t have heard of. I know that the situation might be different in other parts of India, but as someone from the Northeast, I don’t think well-to-do people deserve caste-based reservations, at least here. There’s no significant caste discrimination at the ground level. I’m not denying the existence of small incidents, but they’re rare. Using "Kashyap" as a surname for protection against caste discrimination? If you’re Assamese and saying this, even after living in Assam, you’re lying. From my experience, and considering that you seem to come from a well-to-do family (based on your videos..by Assam’s standards, you’re quite well-off), I can confidently say you wouldn’t have faced discrimination. I’m not talking about Brahmin families during the times of our grandparents, but at present, people from our generation and parents don’t discriminate. I’ve seen Assamese Brahmins and even Nepali Brahmins in Assam eat food in ST households, sharing the same plates. Things might have been different during the times of our grandparents, but today, this isn’t an issue. the use of “Kashyap,” it may have that history in the past, but for us in Assam, claiming to use it because of that history is hard to believe. I understand that things might be different in other parts of India, but in the Northeast, casteism is hardly prevalent.saying this all cause i think you have mentioned in your bio that you are an Assamese. As for friendships like “you’re Brahmin, I’m Brahmin,” it’s not just about caste. It’s a natural tendency, similar to how Indians bond with each other when abroad. The fact that SC/ST candidates get selected based on reservations, even when they have access to every possible facility, is laughable..and the same applies to OBC candidates. People need to stop justifying their reservations by referencing historical discrimination, especially now in 2025, and especially in the Northeast. I guess as long as SC and ST candidates take seats with their reservations, even after being financially well-off, those memes remain accurate. Yes, they have the right to do so. Regarding Bollywood actors being from upper castes..honestly, that’s the dumbest example so far. Bollywood is driven more by nepotism than casteism. An upper-caste person without connections won’t get a chance, but a lower-caste person with the right links will. This specific argument in your video felt ridiculous, like a victim card to justify wrong things Why shouldn’t people from the general category discriminate? When they see their seats being taken by someone from a reserved category, even if that person is wealthy, their resentment is understandable. It’s hard not to hate a system/people that allows people to take advantage of reservations while playing the victim card. P.S. As someone who is OBC (NCL) and yes, I’m going to take advantage of the reservation I’m entitled to. For me, it’s an opportunity. But I’m not going to pretend I’ve faced discrimination or play the victim card just to justify it.
The audacity to accuse me of lying simply because my experiences don’t align with yours is unacceptable. I’ve already clarified that I didn’t face casteism and, like you, thought our society was casteless for a long time. However, that doesn’t invalidate the experiences me and my family have had. I didn’t need reservations in any of my exams, and if you think you’re undeserving of reservation yet still use it for an advantage, that’s your outlook-not mine. It’s your projection to assume everyone else is the same. As for looking well-to-do, I’ve already acknowledged that I am now, but my family hasn’t always been. If you’re judging solely based on social media, know that I’ve had a job since school and have been earning my own money for quite some time. Financial status isn’t a factor in determining whether someone or their family has faced caste discrimination. Regarding the Bollywood discussion, the sources are linked in the description. It’s not an opinion-it’s a fact. Denying something simply because it hasn’t happened to you is ignorant and ridiculous.
Audacity??? Before that, I think you need to read the whole thing..instead of understanding (or picking)half of it and making it about "invalidating your experiences."Pretty ignorant, isn’t it? Anyway, I think what you’ve missed is.. 'Using "Kashyap" as a surname for protection against caste discrimination? If you're Assamese and saying this..even after living in Assam...you’re lying.' The statement about lying isn’t about your personal experiences, but about using 'Kashyap' as protection against discrimination (after being an Assamese). People don’t need that kind of protection in Assam (not linking it to gotra or etc). As for the Bollywood part, it’s not about facts. Just because more people from higher castes are in Bollywood doesn’t mean they got those opportunities solely because of their caste. If that were the case, the Khans wouldn't have ruled in India, because religion is an equally significant issue, which also includes discrimination. Having higher representation doesn’t automatically make it a fact
Undeserving of reservation'? 😂 the NCL (in brackets) says a lot, so read that part too before giving opinions like, 'If you think undeserving of reservations.' The EWS and OBC (NCL) are reservations based on income, which clearly makes more sense than those based on caste...especially for states like the Northeast and in 2024 The financial factor is, in fact, a determining factor, and if you're denying it, you're being ignorant. I don’t need to give examples of how it's a determining factor..just look around, and you will see hundreds of examples
"Both my mother and father are graduates, and I’ve never heard them talk about facing any kind of discrimination despite being OBC." They might not have faced overt discrimination, but that’s likely because they haven’t challenged the system of oppression directly. Reservation was never intended as an economic upliftment tool. It was always about social upliftment for the historically oppressed. If you’re informed enough to have an opinion on this matter, you should take the time to research why it was introduced. "There’s no significant caste discrimination at the ground level. I’m not denying the existence of small incidents, but they’re rare." This perspective is incorrect. The caste system deeply influences every aspect of Indian society-be it elections, marriages, or systemic oppression. Women being raped and hung on trees to assert caste dominance is not a “small incident.” These acts are extreme manifestations of a societal wound that reservation seeks to address. Reservation is, at best, a band-aid solution, but you can’t remove the band-aid without first healing the wound-that is, dismantling the caste system. "I’ve seen Assamese Brahmins and even Nepali Brahmins in Assam eat food in ST households, sharing the same plates. Things might have been different during the times of our grandparents, but today, this isn’t an issue." Sharing a meal doesn’t erase generations of discrimination-it’s hardly an act worthy of celebration. True change happens when such acts are consistent with broader acceptance, like letting SC/ST individuals serve as priests in temples traditionally dominated by upper castes. If you’re from a small village, ask the local temple authorities if they’d welcome an SC/ST/Dalit priest alongside others-not in separate temples, but as equals. That would be a better measure of true progress. Regarding people changing their surnames: Lower-caste individuals don’t just change their surnames-they often alter their way of life to avoid discrimination. They do this to secure basic things like housing or societal inclusion. These actions are survival strategies, not choices made lightly. "As for friendships like ‘you’re Brahmin, I’m Brahmin,’ it’s not just about caste. It’s a natural tendency, similar to how Indians bond with each other when abroad." This is an overly simplistic and flawed analogy. Children should form friendships based on shared interests, not caste. The fact that caste influences even childhood friendships is a reflection of how deeply ingrained it is in society. This isn’t the fault of the children but of the conditioning they’re subjected to, which perpetuates caste-based divisions as “normal.” Finally, reservation cannot be judged solely through an economic lens. Its purpose is to address social inequities. Yes, it’s a temporary measure, but until society offers free education for all and equal respect for all types of work, it remains necessary. Achieving this in a capitalist framework may be difficult, but it doesn’t invalidate the role of reservation. And most importantly, this isn’t about your personal experiences alone. Just because you or your family haven’t faced discrimination doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Discrimination is systemic, pervasive, and deeply entrenched in our society.
@@Goutham-30799 Challenged? Well, if you haven’t encountered any discrimination, why would you or who should you challenge anything? I’m well aware, but in the present scenario, it’s increasingly about economic upliftment. Regarding the 'ground level' part, I have this question...are you guys ignorant, or are you just interested in picking a random line out of an entire paragraph and generalizing it? Learn to connect the lines. Just before the 'ground level' statement, I mentioned something about 'other parts of India' (read that part and connect the whole paragraph), which clearly indicates I’m specifically talking about Assam/Northeast India. So, your justification for this specific paragraph is wrong. I’m not even discussing the whole of India, so I’m not going to give my point of view on that. Metals? Dude, not sharing the same plates or having different plates for lower castes is also a form of discrimination, in case you aren’t aware. And stop complaining about generational discrimination and such. People need to live in the present..you can’t change the past, even if you cry a sea about it. As for priests? Well, we have religious places called Namghars, and the main person who performs the diya and agarbatti rituals can also be from a lower caste. A flawed analogy? People tend to feel connected to others who share common ground, especially in initial interactions. she mentioned about how the bond formed initially..not necessarily how deep the friendship becomes. For example, Indians in foreign lands initially bond because they are Indian, but whether that bond deepens into genuine friendship depends on shared interests. Bonding over common ground is human instinct, but it can evolve differently based on circumstances. Initial bonding will never happen in a certain way just because you think that’s the 'right' way or because you want it to happen in a specific manner. Again, you’ve proven your ignorance. I questioned 'using Kashyap as protection against discrimination' because she is Assamese. (Read that para again)In Assam, people don’t discriminate based on surnames or titles. Perhaps, before being offended, you need to understand the context of certain things. For instance, whether the comment is discussing India as a whole or Assam specifically. Finally, the point isn’t about what reservations were originally intended for. At present, the point is how, even after having enough facilities, some people still justify reservations. Money gives you power and the position to overcome discrimination. That’s a fact. No matter how many arguments you make, it won’t change the reality. You’ll never see someone from the lower caste in certain positions being discriminated against because of their caste and that’s a fact. P.S. My whole comment is specifically about Assam and the Northeast because, in her bio, she wrote that she is Assamese. Because of that, some of her points feel questionable (like using the title Kashyap). But yes, if she were born and raised in other parts of India, it could be the case.
Thank you sooooo much for talking about this issue i have always observed the people around me doing the same things as you mentioned in your video , i am also sc but i was well off and studied in a good school and the first conception of caste was given to me by my cs teacher (not in a bad way) then some a classmate was saying something about my caste and overheard her and i realised that and i was broken i asked my mom obviously she tried to protect me and as i grow older , ended my entrance preps and im in college now still my classmates talk about it and i overhear them and it breaks me , im quite sensitive so i start to slowly distance myself if they speak minutely bad about caste. I was so afraid that maybe i couldnt explore this topic as a conversation with people i want but your video and your thoughts gave me courage to do so , i love your content keep posting queen ❤❤❤❤
I appreciate your efforts in sharing genuine information with us. I have also observed caste discrimination in MNCs. Many general category individuals advocate for government job cutoffs to be based solely on efficiency. However, if we conduct a survey, we’ll likely find that a significant portion of high-population positions are occupied by upper-caste individuals. While private institutions often claim to operate on merit, caste-based hiring is becoming increasingly prevalent, especially through references. When I worked at an MNC, my boss subtly inquired about my caste by asking about my family background. At the time, I didn’t realize his intention, but later, I understood he was trying to predict my caste. If I had disclosed my caste on day one, I believe he would have overloaded me with work to force me to leave. Historically, upper-caste individuals have sought caste-based privileges while resisting caste-based representation. Ironically, they also take advantage of Asian reservation systems available in other countries.
you are absolutely correct dear friend I have faced a lot of caste discrimination in my career as well With lower merit and skills a lot of Brahmins are sitting at the top of management and getting undeserving promotions and strong backing. This is why they need every Govt. organisation to be converted to Private org for them to control using caste
Wearing a janeu is not inherently an act of casteism-it is a religious or cultural practice for many. But it can be perceived as casteist in certain contexts because the janeu is historically tied to the varna system, which excludes Dalits and other marginalized communities. The practice has traditionally been a marker of caste privilege, signifying access to rituals and education that were denied to lower castes. If someone wears a janeu without acknowledging its association with caste hierarchy, it may reinforce those historical inequities. On the other hand, if worn solely for personal or spiritual reasons, without any intent to uphold caste-based discrimination, it might not be seen as casteist.
@@dontmisimi okay okay I get it. But it's completely alright if one wears it to just practice their family traditions and not to show it off as a symbol of superiority as the janeu is hidden beneath the clothes right
It's okay to wear one. However, if you shove it in the face of a person of lower caste in order to flaunt your superior caste, then it is an act of castism.
Blaming marginalized groups for a broken system only distracts from the real problem.
pinning this cause i can’t keep replying with the same shit to everyone 💌

Well she isn't wrong when you see majority of the people getting quota you know damn well how do they fare right?

Its a whole experience. I m so inspired by u having the courage to speak up on this topic.
You used reservation to get into a college you didn't deserved, snatched someone else's seat who must have been way better than you, and now you cry that they don't put in a pedestal in your college and they divide based on merit why won't they?? You want reservation in everyday life as well as much as you can right ???? Way to create an inefficient nation.

The problem with the reservation situation is , when as a general category student you see a vast difference in marks needed , it gets demotivating. But the thing that we can't see easily is that the "lower cast" (idk why we call it that) have been denied of information and opportunities that this actually uplifts the .

as a sindhi teen from general category, I'm glad Sindhi Hindus, atleast in India have never adhered to the caste system or maybe some do, idk. maybe it's because of the incredibly low population of us in india but i digress. growing up, we never had caste discussions in our household but ig my family, unfortunately is against the caste based reservations because identifying ourselves by "caste" is such an alien thing for sindhi hindus. we tend to bond over our language and ethnicity only. i still dont know nor care if I'm a brahmin or kshatriya or vaishya whatever lol. thank you sm misimi for making a video on such an important yet neglected topic like this.
But how are you all so rich?
Caste is NOT alien to you Sindis BECAUSE , The Hindu Sindis who are still in PAK are MOSTLY Dalits . During partition only the previlaged and rich could escape from the Ashrafs and they BLOCKED these Dalits to enter India.

Don't be sad... Work hard they don't digest actually ki ye log itna agge kaise aa gye ... Work hard and prove
absolutely real, when i tell my friends that its STILL being practiced they are like nah we are genzs why would anyone discriminate blah blah but there are SO MANY PEOPLE WHO OPENLY DISCRIMINATE IN OUR CLASS BASED ON CASTE. one of them went "humara khoon toh kshatiryon ka hai whyd we even be friends with sc sts" ????????
The most weird thing is when people claim to be Brahmin or Kshatriya despite not even knowing who their great grandparents were
@@dewy_droplets that's the same as saying jail all men, because majority of criminals are men.

Because of Hinduism and Hindus.
Wow. You didn't listen to a single word she just said
Reservation is just a representation of a particular community in the administration.

With that out of the way I'll put some points below that are worth thinking about:
1) If you think caste-based discrimination doesn't happen with Brahmins you're dead wrong.
That means two things:
2.1) If it worked within that time frame there will be no need.
Reservation should be on an economic basis not on caste basis.
not a singel point here i would disagree with
Thank you. This is probably the single best comment in this entire video. But sadly it won't get much attention. I also have respect for Dr BR ambedkar. He did what was right for that time. People are just using it for votes now.
Common questions:
The 2 broader ones are:
1) upper caste: Indians who fit the eurocentric beauty standards.
2) lower caste: Those who don't.
Key word, "Eurocentric"
There was also a survey done back in the late 19th century of Madras where they showed which Varna has how many kids, SURPRISINGLY, for every 1 Brahmin student there were 3 Kshudra students.

Being from st i hate to say my category as they instantly judge me
Bro that is the major issue with every SC/ST person.
This specific argument in your video felt ridiculous, like a victim card to justify wrong things
Why shouldn’t people from the general category discriminate?
😂 the NCL (in brackets) says a lot, so read that part too before giving opinions like, 'If you think undeserving of reservations.' The EWS and OBC (NCL) are reservations based on income, which clearly makes more sense than those based on caste...especially for states like the Northeast and in 2024
The financial factor is, in fact, a determining factor, and if you're denying it, you're being ignorant. I don’t need to give examples of how it's a determining factor..just look around, and you will see hundreds of examples
"Both my mother and father are graduates, and I’ve never heard them talk about facing any kind of discrimination despite being OBC."
They might not have faced overt discrimination, but that’s likely because they haven’t challenged the system of oppression directly.
Reservation was never intended as an economic upliftment tool. It was always about social upliftment for the historically oppressed. If you’re informed enough to have an opinion on this matter, you should take the time to research why it was introduced.
"There’s no significant caste discrimination at the ground level. I’m not denying the existence of small incidents, but they’re rare."
This perspective is incorrect.
Things might have been different during the times of our grandparents, but today, this isn’t an issue."
Sharing a meal doesn’t erase generations of discrimination-it’s hardly an act worthy of celebration.
It’s a natural tendency, similar to how Indians bond with each other when abroad."
This is an overly simplistic and flawed analogy. Children should form friendships based on shared interests, not caste. The fact that caste influences even childhood friendships is a reflection of how deeply ingrained it is in society. This isn’t the fault of the children but of the conditioning they’re subjected to, which perpetuates caste-based divisions as “normal.”
Finally, reservation cannot be judged solely through an economic lens.
I was so afraid that maybe i couldnt explore this topic as a conversation with people i want but your video and your thoughts gave me courage to do so , i love your content keep posting queen ❤❤❤❤
more power to you girl, you made us proud and thankyou for addressing this issue.
Ironically, they also take advantage of Asian reservation systems available in other countries.
you are absolutely correct dear friend
I have faced a lot of caste discrimination in my career as well
With lower merit and skills a lot of Brahmins are sitting at the top of management and getting undeserving promotions and strong backing.
This is why they need every Govt. organisation to be converted to Private org for them to control using caste
How is someone wearing a janeu an act of casteism?
