  • Remnants of the squall line that went through with persistent +CG's from the anvil. This was awesome because 3 different lightning bolts struck the ground at once. (Far left is the +CG)
+CG's or Positive Cloud-to-Ground Lightning is 10+ times more powerful than ordinary Negative Cloud-to-Ground Lightning, and the thunder has that characteristic "mortar" sound which you hear at the end.

You know what I love about this, that you let the thunder speak and you just listened.

Well thunder will always have the final say no matter how much we talk 😆

Thunder from positive strikes always has that explosive sound and seems to go on forever.

Nice catch. The power of nature. Man, it's great.

The intense bolt on the left was your downward +CG. The other two appear to be upward flashes from tall structures triggered by the +CG.

Oh yeah? Thanks bud, I appreciate the analysis. I couldn't tell if the mid-right one was also positive. Check out the video I posted after that, that bolt was over a mile away (roughly, it was about 6 seconds until thunder came), and the power of that, it set off multiple car alarms. I assume that one was positive as well.
      Cheers.

@@TomHigginsWx Hard to tell the polarities apart without seeing the flash or hearing close unobstructed audio. If it was from the same event, i.e. what appears to be MCS stratiform then more than likely it was positive if it was intense.
Very intense -CGs exist, though these are usually inside thunderstorm cores.

Even negative CGs can be quite powerful and noisy. ⚡️

That was some explosive thunder! It sounds like someone is angry by the length of the thunder! Great stuff!
