'No More Dream' was BTS' debut song asking the question 'what is your dream?'. It is about kids these days being forced to be robotic study machines as a means to achieve success without the freedom to explore what their dreams might really be. In this MV they changed that to just 'Dream', partially stating they've achieved their dreams and partially urging people to keep dreaming.
The album of this song - map of the soul:7 was heavily inspired by Jungian psychology. It talks abt the 3 aspects of a person's psyche - persona, shadow and ego (which are all songs in the album by the way). You picked up on some of it talking abt public persona and also the line abt shadow in the song. Another song I would recommend from the same album is 'black swan' which is abt the fear of losing passion for something you really love (in their case- music). It's a very artsy song in a different way from 'on'.
Religious references in the MV: 1:46 Dove represents the Holy Spirit 2:03 Jungkook has thorns wrapped around his wrist to represent Jesus thorns on his head 2:16 Drums are used in many cultures to connect with God 3:18 Taehyung is laying like Jesus on the Crucifix also the girl represents Eve 3:27 The very obvious Noah's Ark 5:42 The crow/trees are a symbol of death. 6:05 Suga is in a church. And the background are the four basic symbols of Alchemy. 10:42 Taehyung is Jesus who is opening the eyes of Eve [The little girl] *"Genesis 3:5 “then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil."* As well as Jesus giving a "blind man" sight. He also has thorn tattoos furthering the proof Taehyung is representing Jesus. 11:11 The Jordan River where Jesus was Baptized 12:55 Sending out a dove to find the land after the flood like Noah did. 13:09 Conch shell
I also noticed that JK could be "de@th"when he falls and closes his eyes then hHobi starts singing (hobi may respresent D3ath?) and the raven is poking JK. This may represent when Jesus died and resurected. IDK just my opinion.
Actually the drums are in reference to world war 2. Where they sent drummer boys out to the front lines. The piles of drums are from drummer boys before him that died.. It is mentioned in an explanation vid. But good guess.
In Buddhism life is suffering. Only by accepting this one of the Noble Truths. Another one is life is always changing. Denying that suffering exists or shouldn't even exist creates more pain. What an uplifting song to sing while in the middle of chaos and confusion.
I think you’re spot on about the song being about them talking about their lives as celebrities with a public and private persona. ON is the title track of Map of the Soul: 7, which followed the mini album Map of the Soul: Persona, which are references to Carl Jung’s psychological archetypes of the persona, shadow, anima/animus, ego. So yeah, they were definitely talking about these kinds of ideas. The Map of the Soul album series would have been written not too long after they re-signed contracts with their music label. Before that they had talked about whether they wanted to continue as a group after being thrust up suddenly onto the world stage facing all the pressures that comes with. So I think this song is another confirmation and commitment from them that they’re in this, no matter what challenges they face. As for the MV, I have no idea what to make of it to this day haha, other than telling a general story of overcoming something together. There seem to be several references in the MV to different stories about overcoming some kind of struggle-Noah’s ark, Maze Runner, Lion King, Lord of the Flies (?). I’m not sure, honestly. We didn’t get much in terms of official backstory or “lore” for this MV, so I think it’s even more up to interpretation than usual.
Many of the things you discussed in the middle of the video are extremely accurate to the themes portrayed by bts in this song and album. BTS is different than many other Kpop groups in that they have deep meanings and story lines in their music. Loaded with symbolism that often follow their oringinal story. More recent songs are still meaningful but don't follow the oringinal story. Great musicians!
everyone can interpret the BTS songs according to what they had experienced in their live either personally or by observing others (movies, real cases, etc.). this is the best part that i like and in different phases of live the interpretation could be changed at one person

BTS "Spring Day," was written after the Sewol ferry tragedy. The ferry capsized and more than 300 passengers, crew, and two rescue divers, and five emergency workers died. 250 of those that died were students on a school trip. When you watch the music video with this tragedy in mind the lyrics and imagery will feel deeply profound.

You guys pretty much got the basic message of the song- the inner struggles that we all live with in finding our true selves. ON is a song in their MAP OF THE SOUL album which is based on Swiss Psychiatrist Carl Jung theory by the same name- Map of the Soul. There are multiple songs in the album that continue to carry this theme: Black Swan (another great song and MV to check out), Persona (which you commented on spot on- our public face vs private), Shadow and Ego. I actually really like the concept and I think it shows how God created us. Yes, we have the physical persona. I think the shadow deals in the spiritual realm. I may have a different interpretation of ego than Carl Jung, but I take ego as the epitome of ourselves as God intended us to be as individuals, with our personality, talents, skills and imperfections. As for MV- a lot of imagery taken from different movies. Youth pastor is right on- it’s Lion King. Everyone sees Simba’s pride rock. The volcano is definitely Mordor from Lord of the Rings. Supposedly the wall is from Maze Runner (I haven’t seen it) and girl covered her eyes is from Bird Box (also haven’t seen it). But there’s still so much open to interpretation. Each scene shows imagery of things from different time periods. If you go back to the beginning it shows a time of war, no peace (the bird is killed by an arrow). @ 2:22 member V is postured in a crucifix. The use of children may speak to the death of innocence- again as tie in to the theme of Blood Sweat and Tears. The depiction of the boy in holocaust clothing is a reminder of that- losing innocence because of the horror that he ends up facing. Maybe him banging the drum signifies sounding the alarm for what is to come. RM @ 3:28 is definitely depicting Noah’s ark. I read a commentary one time on another TH-cam reaction that I like. He suggested that Noah also tried to sound the alarm for the destruction that was to come, but people didn’t listen. The whole MV carries a theme of death/destruction and rebirth. JK @ 11:15 essentially shows a baptism scene. After that is where we get the Mordor scene. Hell is defeated and we get a rebirth scene with the lion king, the dove is not only alive again but now there are 7 of them. 7 for each member, but also a sign of completion and perfection. Anyways… thank you for continuing to explore BTS. I hope you will consider reacting to their vocal line song TRUTH UNTOLD. No MV, but the lyrics to the song are very poetic and imagery heavy enough, it doesn’t need a MV.
It's in a war context, that of a village attacked, which happened a lot in early Korean history when China tried to take over, or one part of Korea fought with another. Jin - finds living doves of peace Jimin - bemoans that resources have been destroyed V - wakes up, doesn't know where he is, sees a girl (in real life this girl is his sister). RM is afraid and becomes aware his shadow is him and he will fight the fear and pain J-Hope - dances on the battlefield as pain turns to a fighting spirit (did you notice the vulture fly off the body?) Suga - is angry (though he says he doesn't care "I don't give a ugh" Jungkook - captured and tortuously bound, but escapes and runs. He finds the conch shell, the signal to pull themselves together, take a breath And then they return near the opening, but have to fight their way through through the enemy again, lead the villagers through the wall and climb to the pinnacle to see the new land. I don't give that much weight to Christian biblical references since the lyricists in BTS aren't Christian, they are Korean and will lean more heavily on that. There are some. The Jungian psychology ideas were 4 years earlier followed by Love Yourself. Map of the Soul: 7 addresses themselves as a group and themselves as individuals in that group. That's what has happened here - 7 survivors band as a group (again) and bring ARMY to a new world.
@@SusieQ1955 that’s not Taehyung’s real sister. I don’t know how that rumor started, but this has been addressed multiple times by others. She’s an actress and not his real sister.
You guys should check out the ‘ON Kinetic Manifesto MV’ that way you’d be able to relate the visuals with the music, but this one was more on the symbolic part having to do with the whole album. Like really! Check out ON : Kinetic Manifesto! You’d love it! Thank you for the reaction ❤
This song comes on their album "Map of the Soul: 7" Think psychology and Carl Jung. "Persona" "Shadow" and "Ego" are also from that album. This was supposed to be the last album before they went into the military. Then, well, the pandamic hit and that got derailed for a couple of years.
The theme is also based on the fable of Swan Lake. The white swan, the ego, wants the prince. The black swan, the id, creates mischief to keep her from him. When she kills the black swan, the first death, she kills herself. Artists consider their art the white swan, or ego. The loss of their passion or ability to create art brings the angry powerful id up to create chaos in the artists concept of himself. Jimin is the black swan and when his black wings open it is a powerful moment. When Jin walks into the mirrored room he asks who am I now. At the end, the first death has occurred and the black swan is dying and the artist must recreate his life. Also, Jimin's dancing is spectacular!
The music video contains references to various films and television shows, including The Maze Runner, Bird Box, The Handmaid's Tale, The Lion King, Game of Thrones, Narnia, and Dolittle. The video also includes a reference to the Biblical stories of Noah's Ark, The drums and trumpet bringing down the walls, and Adam and Eve. Lyrically, the song talks about how their success changed their lives, the sacrifices that they have made, and having the strength to continue their career despite "the unknown future." The sad thing is BTS never got to perform ON for fans until March 2022. On was released 2 weeks before the pandemic hit hard, their tour was cancelled and the world shut down. ON is kind of prophetic in a strange way. Little did they know their hardships were about to get worse. But just like the MV of ON they made it in the end. No More Dream was their debut song and it means "The dreaming is over we have made it, here we are!"
IMHO, basically, they are talking to their haters: "ok, bring the pain, and I will transform all of it in energy to success". Unfortunately, they've been receiving a lot of hate since the beginning, so, at the time they composed this song, they decided not to worry anymore about the haters. It's like a complement to Mic Drop, where they openly said to them: "ok, I don't know you, but you know my name. Live your life, love yourself." When I fell into this awesome rabbit hole, I was impressed by the beauty and quality of their MVs. I keep doing that hehe. You can find explanations for some of their songs/MVs.... all of them are very interesting.
I saw one of your BTS reaction videos a while back, I can’t remember which one. Slowly, getting caught up on your other reaction videos. If you haven’t covered it yet, zero o’clock would be a good song to react to. It reminds me of Lamentations His mercies are new every morning. Then another BTS song you might enjoy is Save Me.
Thanks for this reaction! We have to always keep in mind that BTS has NEVER just one level of interpretation. There is actually a level inspirée by thé studios of Carl Jung, but also à theological interpretation. Nothing is fortuity with BTS: a dove? Right… a boat with animals? Mmmm… let’s see. A young man lying down with a piece of wood under the head and sticks like a crown around his head? Well… But the youngest, the innocence with thorns around the wrists and advancing in water and his wounds being washed in this water… How could it be fortuity? And these words: « Find me and I’m going to bleed with you » WAOWWWW
The tin drums and the child is a reference to THE TIN DRUM by GUNTER GRASS. The ark and the animals are obvious references to NOAH’S ARK. THE CROWN OF THORN around JK’s wrists, and its immersion into water before its subsequent re-emerging as a call to freedom are more religious references.
You should watch explanation videos as well if you want to know the meaning behind their music videos because when we say that things are never random in BTS' music videos, ,we mean it. They take pride in their art. Even the room filled with snicker bars in the fake love music video has a meaning.
I am not a Christian although I was raised Lutheran and even attended Pepperdine. I am happy to see a pastor who has an open enough mind to pay attention to BTS. There were LOTS of Biblical references in the video including the beginning, where V is lying on the ground in the shape of a cross. Good job, guys!
This MV has more of a combination of biblical and movie reference that follows their group storyline throughout the albums. So they don’t dance much until midway toward the end during the dance break part. Its their official MV followed by their KINETIC MANIFESTO: COME PRIMA choreography performance video that they filmed in the famous DAM in Los Angeles years ago during their ON comeback.
You’re not crazy, this MV is chock full of symbolism and religious references. My favorite line “find me and I’m gonna bleed with you” (first couple times it is “find me and I’m gonna live with you”, which I always read as pain talking to them, whereas “find me and I’m gonna bleed with you” could be a whole host of things… them talking to us, or someone else talking to them - but I think it’s notable that it first follows the line “I gladly sink into the pitch-black abyss”… willingly or knowingly accepting the human experience of pain because of how it enables us to empathize - “bleed with” - with someone else)
Actually, BTS writing/composing/producing in itself is just one of the major reasons why they are an anomaly. The CEO of their tiny label not just allow, but encourage that the music they make comes from within themselves. Out of creative freedom and also out of necessity, they are a deviation from the kpop industry norm, where the big three major labels just control what music they put out and give them the songs to perform/sing, but with BTS’ label, they deviate from how the music industry operates which is corrupt. I admire BTS’ earnestness and integrity and earning their success and not choose dishonest ways to get an immediate number one like other labels do.
That’s not “Kpop” that’s just BTS, and their company ( cuz of the success of BTS they started to do it with their other new groups ). But all that meaningful stuff came from BTS , specially the rappers , they are such a good songwriters and creative people , that’s why his solos still have this element higher development compared to the vocalists of the group( they aren’t as skill in writing music as the rappers , so a lot of times they get ideas from their staff , and take already made songs)
I see many have explained in greater detail the symbolisms in this song, so I can only recommend to watch the Kinetic Manifesto version of this, where the dancing is beautifully presented!
please react to bts 'on' live performance because they are GREAT live! they sing and dance at the same time which is extremely difficult but they do it so well.
You guys were very close to a good interpretation. Much of BTS's music talks about the struggle between the ego, the persona and the shadow. All psychological parts of oneself. RM uses the writings of Carl Jung and other philosophers, thinkers and psychologists often when he writes music. He is an avid reader of intellectual texts. The boat with the animals is intended to represent Noah's ark.
Something you should both know is; BTS makes ARMY concept videos before they release an album. So before seeing the new video, we do have clues to what the video is about.
@@fatimahamid-k5v the element of surprise is gone so I usually wish for people to be blown away by ON Kinetic (camera angles) before seeing grand central live
Thanks for reacting to this mv. If you want to understand BTS songs and music videos better, try watching/reacting to the BTS ON EXPLAINED BY A KOREAN OR BTS EXPLAINED THEORY.
12:36 Those were REAL throne vines JUNGKOOK had on who was in a hurry to get them off Lol this one of many biblical references within the MV. 14:31 Thats Pride Rock from Lion King.
Can you react to IU love wins all music video. It is such a beautiful, but sad storytelling. One of the best K-pop music videos hands down. It also has V from BTS as an actor in the music video.
As for Korean influences, while Europe was in the Dark Ages, there were many territorial wars on the Korean peninsula, also including armies from southern China. To me, this looked like a battlefield after an army (NOT THE BTS ARMY) had gone through a village. Each member/survivor has a story to tell, Jin finding the wounded dove among the dead. Jimin near the destroyed resources and the villagers's drums, RM speaking of his fear and identifying his shadow, J-Hope saying he's going to deal with the pain, and V waking up and seeing a lost abandoned child. Suga has perhaps taken refuge in a monastery. Jungkook has been bound at the wrists but runs to escape, his beautiful song says, we're going to change this pain to action. The call with the conch summons a storm, summons the survivors, and they gather strength, fight one more time and win, and lead the remaining people out. Up on the rock they see the new land. This is my opinion. Jungian psychology and Biblical references can be put in by someone else, but this is how i visualize it based on Korean history.
The rock is Vasquez rock from Star Trek Voyage Home but many Armies thought and referred to it as Pride rock lol. This MV has many biblical references tho I am no theologist to break it all down :)
14:52 😂 ...well, J-Hope says Hakuna Matata in an older video, so ..... maybe? 😂 The older video is Boy in Luv. Not to be confused with Boy with Luv, which is also good, but more recent and has Halsey in it. I think I listened to Boy in Luv for about six months before I heard Hakuna Matata. Lol! I was like, "Wait, what?!?" I've only been listening to BTS for just over two years and, with few exceptions, I didn't pay much attention to the lyrics for the first 18 months (which is why it took so long to hear what J-Hope was saying). I think the boys got in a bit of trouble with this video because of some of the imagery? I'm not sure. I think there wasn't any issue with the lyrics, just the video. I vaguely remember seeing something saying they weren't exactly comfortable with the direction of the video, but they were still fairly new and quite young. I might be confusing some of this with War of Hormone.
So I caught so many biblical references to stories in the bible about overcoming hardships and pain. Noas Arch is the easiest, the white dove resurrecting, the thorns on Jungkook, perhaps Sodom and Gomorrah for the dance break, the blind girl seeing again, The drums and the wall make me think of Jerico. Overcoming
No more dream. dream? No More Dream is the title of their very first song and music video they're gave you calling from the debut album June 13, 2013! No more dream was the first song on the first album of their school trilogy of albums. you watched videos out of sequence from the fictional storyline! to get a complete understanding of the BTS storyline you need to start from the beginning. fictional storyline begins with their fifth album the most beautiful moment in life part 1. It is the first album of their youth trilogy. Blue fictional storyline the bangtan universe or the BU has within it albums, music videos, short films, highlight reels, books, notes, a webtoon (an online graphic novel you download to read) formed a video game. Fictional storyline music videos are identified not all music videos are part of the storyline. You should be able to find a sectional storyline viewing order not including the books, webtoon, notes or video games. after you dive into and finish the fictional storyline then there is a storyline outline video to see how close you were to getting it right.

Jin - finds living doves of peace
Jimin - bemoans that resources have been destroyed
V - wakes up, doesn't know where he is, sees a girl (in real life this girl is his sister).
RM is afraid and becomes aware his shadow is him and he will fight the fear and pain
J-Hope - dances on the battlefield as pain turns to a fighting spirit (did you notice the vulture fly off the body?)
Suga - is angry (though he says he doesn't care "I don't give a ugh"
Jungkook - captured and tortuously bound, but escapes and runs. He finds the conch shell, the signal to pull themselves together, take a breath
And then they return near the opening, but have to fight their way through through the enemy again, lead the villagers through the wall and climb to the pinnacle to see the new land.
That's a bit much.
@@SusieQ1955 that’s not Taehyung’s real sister. I don’t know how that rumor started, but this has been addressed multiple times by others. She’s an actress and not his real sister.
She is not his sister she is an actress and they communicated in Japanese.
Yooo I love BTS🤩 I recommend you guys also a singer Dimash Kudaibergen. He is amazing!!! I liked your reactions!
Lyrically, the song talks about how their success changed their lives, the sacrifices that they have made, and having the strength to continue their career despite "the unknown future."
The sad thing is BTS never got to perform ON for fans until March 2022.
ON was actually first perfomed at their PTD - L.A. concert in November 2021
Live your life, love yourself."
When I fell into this awesome rabbit hole, I was impressed by the beauty and quality of their MVs.
I recommend the video "ON Explained/Theory" by xceleste so you can better understand the MV and the references.
The video is full of biblicial and film references. Jericho, Noah.. so you were correct in the beginning
This is about Jung's Archetypes showing the process of individuation in one's life. Many of their songs have Jungian Archetypes and Themes.
I think the next song should be Love yourself (Answer). It is live so u can see they can sing but Also how the trilogy love your self enðs
Ooohhh yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sooo excited y'all are reacting to this! I logged in just in time for the premiere ^.^ Borahae💜
"Bookish Theories" has explained MV you should checkout. 🤔🙄😏
there is a dance version off this song whid Bts is called On kinetic manifesto film recorded in L.A
I enjoy it. Thanks your guys for reaction.
Please react to BTS "ON Kinetic Manifesto Film" that has choreography. thank you
You must watch "Mic drop" guys.......... Highly recomend here.... you never gonna disappoint about that song omg🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
So before seeing the new video, we do have clues to what the video is about.
u need to see them perform, watch on performance in grand central station
Don't you think they need to see ON Kinetic first tho?
@@sc33h3o3 it doesn't matter all bts content is amazing. Doesn't make a difference to me. 😌
@@fatimahamid-k5v the element of surprise is gone so I usually wish for people to be blown away by ON Kinetic (camera angles) before seeing grand central live
they're gonna watch it anyway chill out

I LOVE BTS!!!!!
Lord of the rings?
If you as pastors didn't get the message and the symbols I won't blame others
Thanks for reacting to this mv. If you want to understand BTS songs and music videos better, try watching/reacting to the BTS ON EXPLAINED BY A KOREAN OR BTS EXPLAINED THEORY.
Please React to Jungkook Standing Next To You . He is BTS's main vocalist
As like what u've said. Bts is the top tier. 💯💯💯
This music video of full of imagery of religious symbols like the Noah’s ark, the thorn on their hands, the cleansing of themselves, at the church etc
12:36 Those were REAL throne vines JUNGKOOK had on who was in a hurry to get them off Lol this one of many biblical references within the MV.
14:31 Thats Pride Rock from Lion King.
aa thank you for great reaction guys :)
David,,Jacob, Nuh ,Jonannis, Jesus,Ark angel Serafim GREAT SEMBOLİK , but nobody cant see😢
Please Bts member Jungkook solo album "Golden" - Seven, Standing next to you .🙏🙏🙏
I think it's better if you guys watch dkdktv's explain videos to understand the meaning of the songs
Please BTS - Black Swan MV
👍
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
The rock is Vasquez rock from Star Trek Voyage Home but many Armies thought and referred to it as Pride rock lol. This MV has many biblical references tho I am no theologist to break it all down :)
14:52 😂 ...well, J-Hope says Hakuna Matata in an older video, so ..... maybe? 😂
The older video is Boy in Luv. Not to be confused with Boy with Luv, which is also good, but more recent and has Halsey in it.
I think I listened to Boy in Luv for about six months before I heard Hakuna Matata. Lol! I was like, "Wait, what?!?"
I've only been listening to BTS for just over two years and, with few exceptions, I didn't pay much attention to the lyrics for the first 18 months (which is why it took so long to hear what J-Hope was saying).
Pleaseeeee react to Black Swan by BTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
BTS sempre 💜💜💜🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Hi please react to guide to BTS 💜
The next step is to react to the album wings, listen to LIE live,
So I caught so many biblical references to stories in the bible about overcoming hardships and pain. Noas Arch is the easiest, the white dove resurrecting, the thorns on Jungkook, perhaps Sodom and Gomorrah for the dance break, the blind girl seeing again, The drums and the wall make me think of Jerico. Overcoming
Correct me if i'm wrong, it's about fighting against pain especially at that time (pandemic)
It was actually released right before the pandemic
Its about jungian psychology
I'm kind of surprised, no one seems to notice that V's initial scene is so clearly a depiction of the crucifixion... did it even slip past a pastor?
The only thing I can think of with that rock is the lipn king😂
I'm sorry but I never watches this version of On, I thought the kinetic manifesto was the only one?!
Nah this one is mv that one was more like performance
Please react to bts dynamite, i need you and run
BTS's V just released his single"fri(end)s" i hope you check it out 💜💖
Can you react to sb19 song ilaw and liham. Thanks.😊
