  • By the way, Mosta is one of the most populous towns in Malta. Due to its central location, you'll likely pass through it. Why is it worth stopping by?
At the heart of the town is the world's third-largest unsupported dome, a 39-meter-diameter church. The building, reminiscent of the Roman Pantheon, was constructed in the mid-18th century, mostly funded and built by the local residents.
On April 9, 1942, a 50 kg bomb pierced the dome and rolled through the church, which was filled with 300 people, without exploding. The devout locals regarded this as a miracle. The original bomb is on display at the Military History Museum in Valletta, while a replica can be seen in the church's mini-museum.
