Thanks for making these technical videos, I like to see the problems, the work arounds/ thru and the final results. I also like to here about the frustrations as it make it a real situation, not just a throw parts at it, untold money and put a unreal narative to the situation.😃
You are fortunate to have that Hydra Cell pump. I just had one for that application quoted and it was $4K USD! Yours would be more since it’s a direct mount and not pulley driven.
You probably have the room to use a small swimming pool sand filter instead of cartridge filters. They're cheap, have extended service intervals, and are easily cleaned by back flushing.
Dock water is city water with all kinds of chemicals to meet health standards. No comparison to to filtration , UV , RO which gets down to 0.0001 micron. City and bottled water can't even com close to that
It is definitely clean water. This system works pretty well too. Sub-100 PPM of salt is the norm I have seen. With the mineral supplement filter its the best RO water I have ever had. Blaine
I thought UV lights were supposed to be mounted vertically. I used to take care of the water system at the BCF terminal I worked at. They had well water and municipal service intalled later. The filter filter installed on the muni water. Changed it once a month it looked like a big brown turd. The well water was always clean most of the time just not enough of it during the summer months. I can see that chunk hurling off the lathe 😮
Thanks for the info on the UV sterilizer. I never worked much with them so just mounted it where it made sense. I will keep an eye on it to see if if starts to fill up with stuff. That adapter flying off the lathe was quite something. Lol, I can still feel it. Have a nice little scar to remind me as well. Blaine
@OnboardTangaroaSeatrial The BCF plumber that taught me how the water purification system operates the UV light has to be fully submerged in water. I Got the lecture to make sure the system is charged with water before the UV system was turned on. The bulbs burn out quick if they are not cooled by the water. There was two UV lights. I was to cycle them once a month one. Also had bleach injectors we'd have to test for free chlorine. This was 10 years ago terminal maintenance let me do stuff because I was able to fix stuff. The staff at the terminal are not allowed to even go near the water system now.
Tangaroa was built in 1969. The systems are kind of all over the place for when they were installed. We figure the watermaker was installed in the 90s some time. Blaine
Laithes are a brilliant tool but they can be so dangerous , you were unlucky with the accident but it could have been so much worse, I have only tried a water maker cup and you could still taste the saline so that was the first and last, but that was many years ago, so can I ask you do you still have any taste of saline?
Definitely lucky with that one. I have been working with lathes for damn year 20 years and got careless. It only takes once. The water from this watermaker is actually very good. I remember back when we used to work on boats that there was always a bit of funky flavour with the RO water. This system does not have that. Salinity is usually below 100 PPM and with the mineral supplement filter the taste is quite pleasant. Blaine
I don’t know what’s going on with utube but I’ve been subscribed to your channel for quite some time now, but here as of lately every time I go to your channel I’ve been unsubscribed. I know a lot have been saying check to be sure you’re still subscribed & I do check,so maybe you have noticed your subscribers have fallen off, IDK shit from shine-o-la,but I just thought I’d mention this . Thank you! Safe Travels ❤
Thanks for the heads up. I just had another subscriber mention this today. I imagine TH-cam must have a bug. I will have to look into that. Take care. Blaine
The more I see the more my mind changes and I am becoming glad you chose to save this crusty old girl.. But I still think you are a few screws loose for buying it.
Lol, maybe, maybe not. Too late to worry about that now. That being said, after being at the boat show this week and seeing what boats cost I am totally good with what we paid. Blaine
When I saw you drilling that through hole so close to the waterline, certain parts of my anatomy began puckering. Well done.

So glad you are enjoying them! We have lots to come. Always some issues to work around. Thanks for watching!

Not going to lie, its a pretty killer pump. When I rebuilt it I was intrigued by how it operated. Cool stuff.

You two are hilarious! Blaine! Be careful!
I try to be careful, honesty I do. I just don't always succeed.

@ lol
Can you please your wife simmer down a bit, Not too much,
but just a bit 😂😂
Great interesting video ,
Safety 2nd 😊 Frakenblaine.
Thanks 😊
You tell her to simmer down. I'm not going there. 😂 Glad you liked the video.

Love these technical videos! Blaine, you and I speak the same language. Glad your head is OK!
Right on! I definitely enjoy doing this kind of stuff. No permanent damage (that I can remember) 🤣.

@@OnboardTangaroaSeatrial Yup, RO and UV can easily make sewer water almost tasteless . It's the minerals you add brings on the taste.
Blain, you are brilliant.
Thanks! I like this kind of stuff. I tend to do things a bit outside the box.
Blaine
Those chuck keys are collectable by now. Everyone uses keyless chucks.
Lol, this one could use some refinishing.

How old is Tangorowah (sp?), who, when were some of the systems installed?

I believe husbands have to get to get heart to show off to our wives that we are dumb, but a keeper. Loved the video, and have a safe day, sir
I like that theory. Its probably a subconscious thing. 🤣. Take care.
