My early teens.. so long ago. This song is one of the best Avril songs. My Happy Ending, Forgotten, I'm With You, Naked, Fall To Pieces and Head Above Water. I love her faster songs but when it comes to ballads, she's one of the best.
I discovered you when looking for Matchbox 20 reactions. Loved those. Enjoying your stuff. Seeing your mouth life at the exact points I feel, when it would make me ...feel. Good stuff mate. Enjoy the fun music
I listened to this so many times when I was in my sad girl phase. Which I am still in, so I still listen to it pretty frequently. (I'm binging, don't mind me.)
You know when you talked about the 80s, 90s, and I'd say early 2000s being full of hope (actually here in the UK I would say mid 90s to mid 2000s were this way, but I know what you mean) you are right I think they were. What happened? Well a few things. Firstly I think things were generally ok up until the 2008 Financial Crisis, maybe it was the war in Iraq and Afghanistan but around then, and then there was a huge societal shock, which I think it's reflected in the music being produced and more so the way record labels went about producing music. I'd add to this the way that in effect talent shows like American Idol over there, X Factor here in the UK have been used to basically pick up and shape people who have some talent and put them through their machine rather than allowing them to grow organically, but used them for a year or two (some not even that) and then threw them on the scrap hall, there's a reason so much music these days sounds the same and those doing best are those that didn't go through this system, and those that did succeed eventually moved away from being controlled so much. I would lastly add that I think that artists and probably more so the record companies who employ the producers who take what the artist has created and put out what they've been charged with creating are looking at what top selling/streaming artists are doing and what sells/streams and just copy rather than in the past when bands had their own ideas and thoughts and created what they were good at, created their own style, within limits of course. I just see a lack of risks being taken by those high up and in charge, which ends up with a lack of a diverse music scene which is what we have now. In the past, maybe because it wasn't as in their faces, there was no Spotify and TH-cam to constantly watch what other artists were doing they did their own thing and just put it out there. Today everything has to be autotuned, post production effects have to be added, and in the end what you end up with is just generic, and on the whole (there are exceptions) not very memorable music. I honestly don't know how you fix it, but maybe it will change once someone realises they can do things differently and others see them making money out of doing it the old school way.
Hahahaha...6 Days after he got 'first contact' with "Avril" and Head above water, he's totally infected by her and of course 100% 'coincidentally' the next Avril Lavigne Bomb appears on his channel.. Hahahaha oh man dude, I know exactly how you feel! ;D
society has become jaded and confused because people left the 90s with hope, then the 00s, 10s, and now 20s are basicly all agendas to destroy the human spirit and im not even kidding. You could hear it in mainstream music during the 00s but the decade that broke humanity (2010s) all pop music started being happy funky 4onthefloor type of beats thats saying ''LALALA everythings fine!'' Thats how i kind of see it within music. But humanity hasnt given up, weve been misguided thanks to the powers in place. The Schumann resonance is having wild spikes and this is a transition period right now, its either a new system after this covid trojan horse, or they will further break humanity...
hmmm top 3 in no particular order would have to be (okay I’m going to cheat on the top 3 and do more): I’m With You, My Happy Ending, Complicated, Sk8er Boi, Keep Holding On - the ones I really grew up on; also love He Wasn’t, Hush Hush, Wish You Were Here, and 17 - these I didn’t really discover/get into until later kind of recently like a year and a half ago

Hey Anton, I've found something that also maybe very interesting for you (for yourself "private" I mean) to check out. A few days ago I did a comment on your "Avril + Autotune?" question and I said NO, she's using absolutely no tuning at all (except standards like echo or reverb in some cases like Head above water) and everything you hear is just her true voice as it is without any tuning. NOW I've found the STUDIO-ACAPELLA Version of "My Happy Ending". Go check it out - here's the Link to the Studio Acapella so you can do a check and comparison of the Acapella and the standard Official Music Video by yourself to proof that I was absolutely right and nothing is added or tuned: th-cam.com/video/OcAGJlsZ6ic/w-d-xo.html

My favourite song from my teenage years

Everybody Hurts
Here's To Never Growing Up (Though you might have to mute the audio on this one and have us sync up the video with you because copyright is awful with it)
Let Me Go
Best Years of Our Lives (Not a full Avril song, but she duets with her long time best friend and band mate Evan Taubenfeld, it's about their friendship)

very insightful analysis on societal shifting through the looking glass of musical expression. I like what you took out of it.
