Not a complete stretch to see how this game unfolded This is the trade off with DeBoer. Offensive coaching will be elite but defensive is not. Saban was able to get great offensive coaching throughout his career, DeBoer is gonna have to find some great defensive coaching. Maybe Wommack can learn to be but this shows right now he’s not

If you know the other LB is man to man with the RB, an the RB goes into motion the strong side, or obviously to the flats, you as the robber LB have to adjust your leverage to the strong side of the field. Vandy played the numbers advantage, an has an offense that focuses on that advantage. This just goes to show that the types of matchups, and scheme, can be deciding factors. first and foremost, disguise the defense until right before the snap -- make them think you're in a different defense than the one you actually execute. bama showed their defense from the moment they lined up -- no disguise or late shifts at all. Play more zone, so that picks are harder to execute and you force the QB to read longer, which can help with pressuring the QB. This also allows you to bring unexpected pressure from the corners on the edges, which can blow up both running and passing plays. play more 4- and 5-man fronts on early downs to get some negative plays in the running game, make the read option harder to execute, and force more 3rd-and-long situations -- vandy only threw 20 passes in 70+ plays. same thing happened against Georgia in the 2nd half -- they were 5-for-5 on 4th down because none of those 4th downs were long yardage. and because they knew they had to go for it on every 4th down, they made sure their first 3 downs would get them in position for a short 4th down play. even a non-coach like me can see these things so easily. wommack is indeed in way over his head.
