In 2004 to 2006 ESPN starsports not telecasted in India, but I have seen in Collage library news paper Pointing hits 100s in both innings of 100th test. Still remember that day in 2006
Graeme Smith did a sporting declaration and 287 runs is enough to defend in 76 overs but Ponting was too good and won the match within 60 overs
In his peak, Ponting was the toughest batsman to bowl to.

It’s incredible when Ponting had average of 59 and change back in the day but too bad he lost his form or else he would had made 15k + runs in both tests and odi

Ponting at its best is a treat to watch.he can play same shots on front foot and back foot equally good.ponting comes in a category of strokes player if he gets going it’s best then even Lara and Sachin just listen the sound from its blade it’s unbeatable
2:42 is the shot of a pure genius. Among other extraordinary shots that he played, this stands out because that was actually a good ball to most batsmen in test cricket. And his straight drives to spinners is something very few people talk about. His foot movement is so underrated to spinners. Truly one of a kind, the only player I consider that came close to Sachin and now Kohli in terms of technique and class.

@Nithun Raj actually he struggled only against harbhajan that too only in tests he had a marvellous record in sri lanka which had murltharan and in odi he use to play with harbhajan as a toy too
It is difficult sometimes to wrap around the fact of how he always has that "one extra second" to get in to position and pull the ball ever so graciously!

Kohli and Ponting both scored 41 centuries in their prime years. Ponting (2002 - 2007) & Kohli (2014 - 2019). Kohli and Ponting have similar statistics in ODI but in tests, Ponting is way ahead of Kohli. I think by the end of Kohli's career... He'll be close to Ricky may be even ahead.

Good test match. Looks one sided by the end but a terrific declaration by Smith trying for the win. You should always risk it to win it. Sometimes it doesnt work but hats off for having a go. Aust and SA play the game in a similar manner with a similar attitude. Always a good series to watch.
Ponting's true avg was closer to 60 for the important part of his career before 2007. The stats on him lie a little due to the very rapid late career decline...plus he always played aggressively for a team win rather than for himself. I loved that about Lara as well. Proper Champions.
