I just finished my pre licensure course for the Michigan Residential Builders license via The Detroit Training Center.. will be testing and licensed soon!!
🤔 I’m wondering what skills you learned… it should be easy to find a job HOPEFULLY ! I’m not sure where you are located but I was dismayed that the plumbing supply company ( CROSS PLUMBING on grand River in Detroit No longer has. A service man that makes house calls because they couldn’t find a replacement
I had gotten my builders licence in the mid 90 s , after a while I realized It didn't really benefit me like I thought . Sure now I could pull permits but so could any home owner . It never got me a discount on lumber. It just gave home owners or clients some kind of false assurance that I had a builders licence so I must be good at what I do . Most people when the economy sucks or is doing good , don't care about any license they just want the cheapest price period . That is what the trades are coming to and why we don't make shit for doing hard dangerous, and low paying work. I have watched tons of clients buy expensive materials only to ask for the cheapest labor to install it , so they get what they pay for a cheap inexperienced labor that puts out shitty work . This is what killed the trades . We still make same money or less, we did fifty years ago. Yes we are in demand because no one wants to do this hard under paid work . Minimum wage has snuck up on our wages that have stayed stagnant for generations. The average construction worker in the US makes 18 an hour . Minimum wage now in some states and coming to yours soon is 20 an hour. And after they tax the shit out of us here in the US because we have to pay for forever wars and all the illegal aliens coming to our country and inflation that ain't shit.
@@brucebeamon5460because they don't pay shit. And we are over taxed. Living on anything less than 60 $ an hour with a family with this inflation is struggling. If you have kids you will never be able to afford college. Specially if you have a few children and forget it if you have a big family.
I'd also recommend contacting the wayne westland school district, specifically the William D. Ford Technical Center, they have construction classes for students and it could be a nice way to get a younger group into the business quickly. The class has them on an actual job site, building an actual home.
@@SanbornConstructionGroup Their whole thing, is trying to get the students into jobs straight out of their program so it would be perfect, I believe the also have some HVAC and electrical style classes as well, at least for what would be useful to you guys. (They also have things like game design, cyber security, EMT / EMS, Photography, tons of different possible trades)
As a 1976 pre apprenticeship graduate. I'll say it's a shame how racism and nepotism has destroyed the trades. When the tradesman children didn't want to follow in the father's trade, they decided they didn't want any outsider's learning the trade. So after Reagan killed all the trade pre-apprenticeship training. He thought unions were communists. The unions followed suit and changed the by laws. The ceramic trade is almost dead. If it wasn't for the carpenter's union, there wouldn't be any skills left.
It’s even more of a shame that daily vocational classes were removed from DOS students schedules. Having VOTECH classes a few days a week is ok, but having them as part of a daily schedule was better.
What a wonderful facility/training center, great idea! Trade skills from the bottom up learning. I was impressed they covered every aspect of a rehabilitation/remodel/build. It's really cool that your company and the facility can work together - looks like a win - win for both. I would like to see more high schools have beginner classes, on the basics of home repair; might encourage more to go to trade schools and get into the fields. Very informative video!
@@tipthetoolgirl agree. My high school had shop, home eco, automotive technology, and industrial design n build; all were taught by retired UAW/teamster members or trade folks and bored homemakers/H-1 worker wives who wanted to be out of the house and make $$$ part time. Those were the days when you learn something for free b4 YT and a second language too.
Sad that way back when, they weren't giving black folks a chance to get into certain industries so they could teach the next generation, now all the white guys a getting old and the positions are opening up🤷♀️
As a Plumber that was an Apprentice who almost never had his hours recorded to the state for the 7 years I did it. After that I felt screwed. Most companies do not want to pay a young talent what they are worth because they are young. Also having multiple Master Plumbers not signing off on hours really just sucks Learned a lot though
Wow so cool! So neat to see inside a real workshop and thorough trade school. How ironic that so many people need jobs yet it’s hard to find people with the right skills. Praying everyone in need of a job and workers is a success 🙏🏻🎄Especially for the holidays. Thanks for the BTS look into the networking and the happenings in the Detroit Renaissance 👏🏻It’s so wonderful. Brick by brick all these things come together to impact so many.
@@SanbornConstructionGroup It’s a real conundrum, isn't it? Employers often face a difficult choice: either invest time and resources into training new employees, or pay a premium to hire someone with the right skills from the start. Given the limited pool of skilled workers, the latter option often seems more appealing. However, if employers do decide to invest in training, they need to offer competitive starting wages and ensure good union wages once the apprenticeships are completed. It's a complex balancing act between short-term costs and long-term benefits.
😂 everyone knows this place you must be from Metro Detroit. Not Detroit. But this is a wonderful video great way to shine a light on them they’ve been around for years. The quickest way to get enrolled for FREE is through Michigan Works
actually the only problem is everybody wants you to have experience but nobody a give you a shot then all these old guys swear us young guys dont wanna work nobody gives us a chance
I've been looking for a trade school specifically for Roofing, Shingles,BPO,TPO and Metal Roofing and Gutter Installation. If i could find a trade school for Id dropp everything ASAP
In Buffalo, the city, state and county has thrown millions of $$ in similar Workforce Traning Centers. Problem is, pretty much NO one showed up for free training. How many young people are showing up in Detroit?
I actually attended there 2015, heavy equipment operator, they got me hired right out of graduation was 24 hired into DTE wen they started the replace of the d gas lines
Go to Detroit at work website. Some classes are offered to ppl who live and can prove that they are a resident of detroit the glasses are free. I will be moving forward with the hvac class they offer.
If you folks are short on someone who can draw CAD for shop drawings, Millwork drawings and space planning, please feel free to reach out to me. Thanks.
@SanbornConstructionGroup Bruv, it's just a rerun of your shorts on this channel. Why would you send me there knowing that I wouldn't see anything different? I smell a fraud. I was rooting for you, too!
Wow this privatized union hall looks pretty comfy. I mean if you cant find employees pay more and knock it off with the experience games. Im the type of guy who stays at a place doing trades until im better than my middle manager. The general handyness skiped the gen x and a good chunk of milenials. As a gen z i pity yall businesses owners lack of planning with getting rid of internal job training.
every craft requires osha knowledge, well that’s quite obvious considering the many hidden/obvious dangers on job sites. This type of training facility appears to be an “all in one” training for “all craft” (plumbers, roofers, interiors, masonry etc.) that’s quite concerning considering that each craft has apprenticeships that are 3-5years long for many reasons!! Experience on job sites, learning from journeyman, training that is recognized through dept of labor!!
We all have a God-shaped void, that we try to fill with counterfeits that only Jesus Christ can fill.. he wants a relationship and fellowship with us. He loves us and wants to spend eternity in heaven with us. We need to be sorry to God for what the Bible says is sin. Only once we realize we're lost can we be saved by trusting and the life, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He shed his blood for us taking our sins upon him, and he gives us his righteousness when we put our trust in his finished work on the cross, asking him to forgive us and save our souls from hell.
If you died tonight, are you 100% sure you would go to heaven? God wants us to know for sure and his word tells us how we can know. Eternal life with God is a free gift. Jesus Christ paid it all for you. He took your punishment so you can go free. The gospel. Jesus Christ died for your sins, according to the scriptures, and that he was buried and rose again the third day according to the scriptures. Acknowledge your a sinner, ask Jesus Christ to forgive you, put your trust in his finished work on the cross / his shed blood that can cleanse your sin.. and ask him to forgive you and save you. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Amazing 🤩 God Is Gr8 I've been tryna get in a program since August 2024 I even attended the college & took my test & passed I don't understand the process of how it works & some of the classes are 2 expensive 🫰 2 pay outta pocket rt now I'm just stuck lol 😂
I didn't know about this place! My son has been looking for training like this.

I LOVE THIS for OUR DETROIT COMMUNITY 💚 I’d even be interested in taking classes MYSELF ( plaster and painting probably some plumbing too ) !

I couldn’t agree more. If there were more electives in school around the trades I think you’d get more people going into it
Right, but they took all the stuff you can actually use in life out of the school system Shop class, home eco etc🤷♀️

I'm an old service plumber. It is hard as heck to get young people to do service work. They want the 8 to 4. with lunch at 12.
I completely agree

I will train me where to go I'll do that or heating cooling how can we chat more about this
I’m in the opposite position where I’d love to learn but have no connections

Go to any trade union, and apply to get them their apprenticeship program. They will actually teach you the right way, and pay you while you learn.

Awesome stuff!
Glad you enjoyed it!
