I think it's just the effect of English people talking about Halo, I get the same captivating feeling from HiddenXperia... then again xGLLx just annoys me.
Jedi Spartan 38 Ummm English people nahh I just think it’s his attention to detail.
Part of it his voice and tone. Hidden Xperia has a similar accent, but he feels more like a well informed fan, while our dude here sounds more like a well-spoken documentary.
I made a sketch of how the *Mark IV* Heads Up Display would operate. Even though the sketch wasnt used in this video for reference, this was another great video!
The *Mark V-B* HUD has a slightly modified HUD due to the fact that the armor Noble Six wore was a prototype suit of the official *Mark V* armor that Master Chief wore not too long after the fall of Planet Reach.
How they operate is really simple the issue is getting it to interact with the environment but considering the suits have a sort of radar and a neural link that isn't hard
The MARK. V-B was an upgraded version of the standard MARK V. Not a prototype
@@grantg1598 how?
Here's a good question for a future video. How does Covenant use of English in game work? I have heard it suggested before there is a universal translator in Halo, and what we hear in English from the Grunts and Elites is just provided to Chief via his armour's built in translator.
But we have also heard mention of Elites struggling with certain English phonetic sounds, suggesting they were attempting to learn human language. We also have heard of Grunts trading human holo videos, so its likely they indeed learned English there too.. Finally I have heard mention the lack of English speaking Covenant in Halo 4 was Juul M'Dama's orders to return to traditional Covenant languages and eschew English.
So are all cases of aliens speaking English in games that of a universal translator? Or do many Covenant and ex-Covenant factions just have a large amount English speakers? Is it possible in their quest to destroy humanity, that so many Covenant learned English in the war it became a defacto lingua franca among them instead of their species native tongues? I could definitely imagine some post war factions like The Swords of Sanghelios and The Banished possibly having a significant amount of aliens with English as a second language.
Come to think of it, how did English end up the common tongue of the UNSC? We have heard Hungarian on Reach with civilians, but almost all humans in the UNSC seem to be English speakers.
In terms of grunts and stuff speaking english in gameplay, that would either be a translation system or simply a gameplay mechanic. Otherwise, it makes sense for the Covenant to learn English- they've incorporated many other species in the past with their own languages, learning one more for a tactical advantage couldn't hurt.
In terms of the humans speaking english, that is more of a matter of creative licence. Halo is set half a millennium in the future, there's no way that all languages and accents haven't evolved to the point where they would be nearly impossible to understand from our perspective, just look at Shakespeare (roughly 500 old). So the common language, whatever it would happen to be in the UNSC, is portrayed as 21st-century English, and the rural civilian inhabitants of Reach speak something portrayed as Hungarian (remember, the civilians in the city and the militia both speak perfect, unaccented English as well).
I would say the military has the highest practical use for a augmented reality display. Simple things like friendly positions. Map displays. Communication via radio or text. If you could develop something useable and rugged enough I could imagine the military jumping on to that for at least some units. After watching combat footage and such on TH-cam I've noticed a big problem with infantry is that they have a big lack of communication outside their immediate and close by unit. Even though in video games everyone has a radio that's not really how it is with most infantry. Interesting we can text our friends across the world and respond immediately but they seem to still rely on yelling and maybe the radio if its working while being shot at.
you see we would probably already have all of this if not more if war existed again. You see every major advancement created stims from war. For the most part. Though war is ugly and honestly purely harmful to everyone the actual technological benefits instead of this stale society would have been better overall. Im also not saying we should all go to war for advance ourselves...that probably wouldn't go all too well..

I wish the hololense was viable outside gaming... would love to have a halo style personal hud.
(Once I join the navy im gonna do my best to get into an RnD division... rlly want to make a working hud system)
@Cole Park no, i mean i want to develop a system that interactis with weapons/gear n sht. I want to MAKE not just consume. Ever since i got my moto helmet clip on hud I've been obsessed with them.
The US Army's Land Warrior project attempted this back in the 2000s. The Navy currently has a working helmet for divers that has an integrated HUD
Well you could make a hud ala halo ce Marines with Google glass but programming that shits got to be a nightmare. Not to mention drivers to install for compatible weapons platforms and IFF tech for motion sensors
@@MrDamning Yeah, Google glass could make for a viable platform to build off of, but would require substantial modification and additional systems to be integrated to it
@@MrDamning kinda what I had in mind, however from what ive seen it can be a bit destracring to have ur vision lopsided (even with my motorcycle helmet the hud is offputting at times. So i was thinking more of a ballistic or bump attachment that goes over where protective glasses would go over ur eyes. However it would need to be minimalistic. My friend sent me a screenshot of the new star citizen hud, which is what inspired my redesign of what I had drawn up. Thankfully the vet community (subreddit/family connections) is very helpful when it came to telling me what I could either relegate to a drop-down menu or outright remove.
There is a paintball mask with a hud that ddisplays relevant data such as team location/iff, objective markers, mini maps and if you have the right marker it will even give you ammo and weapon status data
Ngl, I love that use of a superintendent's face/emojis things haha
Late by a long shot, I’ve been ignoring TH-cam lately, but love the superintendent logo that changes its facial expression as you talk is nice.
I remember a few years ago seeing a commercial for a airsoft/paintball helmet that had a HUD that would show friendlies(that had the app installed) and had a range finder built in
I wish that the HUDs were different designs depending on what helmet our Spartans wear in Halo 5 multiplayer... For example, if you wore say, Helljumper helmet, you’d see Buck’s HUD or Linda’s HUD with the Argus helmet. But would be cool if you could also change the colour of your HUD to limited colours.
I'm very hopeful that HUDs will become easier to develop and used more frequently in the near future, maybe in twenty years we'll all be using some kind of HUD for daily activities.
I'd love a pair of HUD contact lenses

Everything high tech is usually made in a military facility for military purposes at first, but then it's usually given to the public.
I do believe Ronald Reagan told the United States military to have GPS distributed to the public.

I’ve always loved games that made their UIs diegetic. It adds a whole new level of immersion when you arent just seeing your health, ammo count, etc overlaid onto your character’s view, but your character is actually seeing that information in-universe.
4:58 perfect hit!
No clue why but the little animations of the face on your videos is always one of my favourite parts lmao
I love the fact that you are actually an engineer working to develop these things from the Halo universe into the real world. Keep up the work, it could well be a gift to humanity!
I'm a commercial & research diver and I can't wait for AR HUDs to start showing up on Kirby helmets and eventually, masks!
*when your favourite TH-cam who makes geek shit also attempts to break technological boundaries irl while talking about technology*
I'd say the biggest thing holding back things like the Hololens at the moment is price!
I believe that we should skip the glasses all together and directly interface with our optical nerve, however i'm not sure if we have someting that can directly interface yet. However it has another implication. Not only could it return sight to those without it, it could allow for perception of light outside of the visual spectrum, ofcause that would come with its own problems. Since the human mind cannot, atleast to my knowledge, process such data.
Assuming that we can get our minds to process the necessary data, a hurdle unto itself, it would allow us to physically see a much higher spectrum of light.
In halo wars 2 we see duglas get his shoulder crushed, a video on how spartans heal their enhanced biology would be cool
One could argue that Halo HUDs have augmented reality aspects. For example, when playing halo reach, certain buildings of interest will be highlighted yellow to get attention. I like to beleive this aspect is canon and not just a gameplay tool.
Saw a video recently from The Hacksmith where they visited a company that is developing glasses that project a HUD onto a holographic/reflective film built into the lens that directs the light directly onto your retina so that no one else can see the HUD. The glasses don't look much different from a normal pair either. No bulky attachments like the Google Glass had.
I've always liked the Idea of HUD Tech and it being your personnel Computer in the Future without the need for a Phone or anything, just something to project what you want to see in your Line of Vision. The Act of typing on a Floating, invisible Keyboard and swiping on a Virtual Screen seems really cool and definitely would make daily Life more convenient and productive if you can just put on a ear Piece or Eyeglasses after getting out of Bed. The Battery though would be a big worry though with that much processing Power....
Imagine gaming with that
Almost all high-end cars now have HUD's as an option. It's super nice not needing to look down-and-close for speed & status.
i think that with your growing youtube channel the croud funding for this would be great! i'd love to have such a device for a mainstream item for many people to have
Would be cool to have a headset HUD for my car that shows RPM, fuel level. Maybe something else like oil temp but then the HUD would be more chaotic. Just having RPM and Speed would be neat to reduce clutter. And professional race tracks can show the off-screen arrows that point to a car that's approaching from the rear similar to video games that have the tiny red arrows around the side that tell you nearby enemies. Anyway, too many ideas haha. But not the tech to make it real.
Gotta say, I really like your new logo, very slick.
Why not just apply the augmented reality concept with virtual reality gear? Phones and such have cameras, and can be used as virtual reality devices, and there’s even augmented reality applications that use phones/phone cameras to overlay the virtual information into the real world, so why not combine the two. It won’t have all the capabilities of the visr systems but it’s a starting point. That’s how the gungnr helmet works.
You're really pumping these videos out fast darn
Never clicked so fast love your work!
Your prototype is very similar to North’s Focals, glasses that fix many of the issues that many augmented reality headsets run into. If you want an over view of them, watch Hacksmiths Video where they try to make a version based on the glasses from the Spider-Man film, and team up with North and to tour their facility. It’s really interesting, and there is a cool history behind North and the team at Hacksmith.
The Upgrades performed to the Lockheed Martin F-22 also offer a Really Good HUD

@@thorshammer7883 I absolutely agree.
If you're into HUD systems and how they can be used, a _lot_ of military Sci-Fi books provide HUDs in various possible ways, from something like Starship Troopers (old but classic) to the new like Colony (which goes a bit into the _how_ stuff like that can work and what it can be used for).
EVS-HUD is a mask made for airsoft and paintball it links to your phone
Hello my freaking TH-camr
Love your vids, thinking about making custom spartan armor statues and if it succeeds then probably wearable ones, basically access to a veriaty of aluminum metal. But it’s just for cosplay 😂
Installation 00 i’m currently working on a battery that could supply continued power for 12 or so years.
And on a prototype Hazardous envirorment suit with a friend of mine.
I researched HUD technology and came up with a UI design (on paper),that might be useful.
And Research and development for the suit is pre-Coronavirus (me and my friend came up with this almost predicting either another pandemic or the impending envirormental decay due to polution.
With any bit of luck by 2025 it will be shown to the world.
Love ya content matey keep it up and love the discord :)
Alot of these seem viable for military use already. Maybe not compact enough for civilian market, but they look like they could be used for combat soon.
You should definitely look into getting crowdfunding or an investor for that technology. I think it could be the future of media. It would be amazing for you to be on the cutting edge of that.
How about this,
An app from your phone that sends targeting data to your visor glasses such as reticle and distance. Then attach the phone onto the rails. The glasses would have the battery life of the phone and the glasses itself displayed for you to monitor so you would be assured of how much charge you have left.
I hope to see the confirmation lights from the books in halo infinite. Immersion would be upped a notch I think
Keep your head up!
If you finish that project, IDC what's on the market already, I'll buy it
I think that when hit by an EMP shot (in game) the screen should go black for 2 60FPS frames, audio get muffled, and then increase screen bloom while the suit boots up. The boot system would look similar to the infinite trailer or like when IRON MAN reboots his suit (while falling) in the first movie.
Yo what a guy keep on doin what ur doin m8
Personally I believe the best way to make HUD systems viable in the civilian market would be to incorporate them in motorcycle helmets. Once HUDs are integrated into helmets it would give you a financially viable option to continue R&D for more light weight and unobtrusive models people could wear everyday. I know a lot of bikers who wear full face helmets who would love the option of a HUD when riding, similar to the car variant displaying speed, direction, maps etc. Having options to choose what to display would also help. Helmets would also have greater room to incorporate a energy source, electronics, and have a greater viewing real estate options when it comes to optic options. Much like a fighter jet helmet but more geared towards riding. I would imagine once there is a foothold it would also help to drive down costs since there would be more options and styles you could go with. Whether using on board computing or wireless bluetooth capability through your phone it would give people more of a reason to look into it. It would also lead into more R&D options for defense contracting since you're already using a helmet, the military would probably be interested in its development if the civilian version becomes a success.
There's quite a few motorcycle helmets that are starting to use HUDs as well.
The Army's Land Warrior System was good but was limited by processor power
Another cool video.
my cousin has on in his car that displays the speed, so thats gotta be useful
You're designing your our HUD? Dude that s badass. I want to see it crowd funded and pushed. Like holyshit 💙😂
Interesting.
The focal glasses are pretty damn close but not quite there on the augmented reality
I wish status lights could be implemented into multiplayer
(As a supplemental form of communication of course, not a replacement)
It's a common issue with modern day humanity. When it comes to our technology. We are at a stage where the level of technology we are able to achieve is halted by the power we are able to give it due to the fact that our energy storing technology is sorely lacking.
i would buy the hololens just for that HUD alone
I wonder if it’s possible to make these kind of HUDs i hope
Bro that brute 😂😂😂
I been getting into innovating too. I just dont know how to go about it. I want to learn more on electronics and stuff
You need to get that product patented asap!

No mention of it in Halo wars 2?
If a "holo-lens" was at least able to show where a weapon is aiming- without having to fully shoulder the weapon- it would revolutionize small arms combat. The reason why the US military hasn't "traded-up" from the M-16/M-4 AR platforms is because the newer weapons offer nothing considerably "new". But, if a HUD was able to place a "weapon point of aim"(WPA), as a redish dot or "reticle" - possibly synced through BlueTooth, that would change the name of the game. Hell, even add a "camera" function, so that way you can peek corners and such before entering the building.
Would have to be a radio signal, Bluetooth would have way too much latency. The problem with strapping a 2.4ghz radio band (just assuming it's the sameish frequency used for mouse dongles and the like), is that it wouldn't be too difficult for an enemy to track all the radio signals being emitted by a group of soldiers, and from that accurately estimate location, numbers and movement. A wired or contact -based connection might work, but it'd be difficult to say how much more beneficial that would be. 99% of bullets are fired into empty air from too far away as a form of suppression anyway, wars are steadily becoming fought with drones and bombs.
What about the UNSC Army they use it too
I just realized when you see friendly that dont have iff tags they still come up yellow... Is there an explanation or just lore plot hole??
Aren't the only friendlies shown without the iff tags civilians. if that's the case it's probably some other system designed for them.
Definitely a plot hole, considering it goes back to the original Halo Combat Evolved, where the sentinels and Guilty Spark show up as yellow before you see them at the end of "343 Guilty Spark" mission. There is another instance when approaching the Forerunner structures at the beginning of the mission when you can see faint outlines of Flood Combat forms in the jungle at one point, don't remember if they are Covenant or Human variant. If they are human, then the IFF makes sense in a way, but then shouldn't they remain yellow up until at least Chief get back with Cortana and she can correct for it?
@@faalsan1918 The flood you see in the fog are all Elite combat forms
civilian versions maybe?
The Verg of SAO like tech
There are a pair of glasses you can buy that are like a more refined Google glass
Man you need to check out laforge optics
would be neet if you could ad a device that you could say attach to your rifle and it would give you an aiming reticle in your glasses
That's not really necessary with how modern optics work. Red dot and holographic sights are intended to be used with both eyes open, and the reticle is essentially superimposed on your field of view while the weapon fades out of focus. You can also do this with ACOG sights, or really anything with an illuminated reticle. Your mileage may vary with an unilluminated etched reticle or traditional crosshairs.

Aaron .J Ultimately we’re trying to apply real world logic onto video games universes. Some suspension of belief will be required.
