Little Kate on the Prairie is a new, entirely improvised series created during Covid. Kate Chapman and Mary Ann Ivan are Broadway veterans who found themselves living in the middle of nowhere. In order to stay connected with their mothers and friends far away, Kate and Mary Ann tell stories, sing songs, explore new skills like ventriloquism, discover nature, play with animals, create art, make craft projects, cook, create characters, share life wisdom, tell jokes, relive travels, double over in laughter, discuss cob houses, wear wigs, ride a mini bike next to a Harley Davidson motorcycle, make snow angels, encounter pigs, watch cats cuddle, sew on an old Singer, see a tap dancing dog....and that's just a taste of the things you'll see. The game - constant creative response. Life will throw us obstacles that challenge our emotional and mental health. Using teaching from Elizabeth Gilbert, Martha Beck, Brene Brown, Glennon Doyle, Carolyn Myss, Oprah Winfrey, Maya Angelou, Gloria Steinem, and others, Kate and Mary Ann demonstrate how to life a joyful life, even in the midst of an industry-wide shut down and global pandemic.
Kate is a certified Health Coach, having studied at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, and a Life Coach, studying with Martha Beck's team and the Wayfinder Life Coach Training program. Kate also has her Master's degree in Health Arts and Sciences from Goddard College, and a Bachelor of Music Education from Boston University. Kate coaches clients privately, coaches groups, leads corporate sessions, speaks worldwide, teaches masterclasses, and is the author of the book "A Pixie's Prescription: A Fun Toolkit for A Feel Better Life," available on Amazon. These videos are made with love, reverence for nature, the desire to make lemonade during a time when our livelihoods ceased to be. They are also made with the intention to help others nurture their own creativity, embrace new situations openly, have a few laughs, focus on playfulness for a few minutes, and lighten the load that life sometimes brings. Improv brings out surprising things sometimes, and I choose to improvise rather than script so that I learn things, too. Play can help us learn a lot about ourselves and others. And when we learn to play well with others, life becomes sweeter and much more fun.
This description is meant to be a bit of an experiment. If I use many words to describe what these little videos are, will that bring more people to our channel? I'm a middle-aged woman learning how to navigate in a virtual world. I'm more comfortable with puppets and plastic skeletons and other props that are tangible and "old school". But I'm here on this earth to learn, and making these videos, having my own channel, and learning how to navigate the thing in order to share my "feel better" ideas with others far and wide is part of that education. I've actually been dreaming of this moment my whole life. I've been acting out scenes like the ones in our videos for years. Now I get to share my stories, singing, dancing, and overall kookiness with people all over the world.
I hope you find light, levity, magic, joy, inspiration, creative spark, and kindred spirits. We are sending much love from the prairie. We hope it reaches you, and that you are entertained by our theatricality, Broadway pizazz, razzmatazz, and whacky sense of humor.
