I would never knowingly eat horse meat, as usual it’s all about money,is nothing sacred on this planet ???. It’s a wonder humans aren’t reared for meat if there was enough money in it.
I see two sides to horse meat. Horses are considered as livestock, therefore, it can be utilized for meat purposes. Was told by my grandfather, as a farmer, draft horse trainer, and WWII soldier, that horse meat was delicious when prepared well. Sweet meat because of they being fed grass/hay for most of its diet. I would not shame anyone who enjoyed horse meat or part of their culture to eat OR to feed their dogs and cats/zoo animals with horse meat. Several issues I am concerned about, are the medications being put in our horses. Are they safe for human and pet consumption? The humane way of transporting horses to processing facilities and dispatching in a very quick way would be much preferred. There is no easy way of doing this, when there isn't enough adoptees or buyers for wild/feral horses/unwanted/untrainable horses. Our economy has shifted, people are scaling back on horses due to the high cost of hay and grain, along with facilities (own barn or boarding stables). There will always be a market for horses, wild or domestic, and when we have too many horses, there has to be an "outlet", therefore horse slaughter facilities would be needed. And to answer your question, would I eat horse meat? Yes, I would, as long it wasn't medicated or vaccinated. Too many of the equine veterinarian medications are not used for human consumption unless they are using a general broad spectrum medications used for meat animals for human consumption.
