Dark fest is one of the best mtb events that have ever happened in South Africa. So glad you got to come here and experience it Matt. I hope you had an amazing time. So proud of my country 🇿🇦
To my knowledge its because those cameras only use a 180 degree lens, regardless of which mode you're in. I mean GoPro is the same, these cameras only have one lens. But it's not a full bubble lens which means it requires less stitching and warp correction, PLUS you have to imagine GoPro has basically double the amount of software engineer RnD on fixing footage from bubble lenses. Also, even if completely stitched correctly, the angle is a bit 'unnatural' and can feel uncomfortable for most average people to watch. It's just a bit too far off from what we're used to. That's why it should only be used for clips. You don't wanna watch 10-15 minutes of it or whatever. :)
I can only imagine. It makes me feel better that these riders are some of the best in the world and that the normal rider can't do it or don't have the opportunity to do it. It's plain insane!!!

The 360 is top teir, gives you a better idea of the raw speed and roughness without over stabilisation and the FOV shows how big the jumps really are, I feel gopros make them look smaller. Darkfest is actually mental, highlight event of the year imo.
Great video well done Matt I was skeptical on if you would complete the course or not and you crushed it right away very good job. the only problem I have is the way the backflips stay static, when the gopro flings around during the flip it adds so much more action to the video and makes you feel like your in it. I would love to see that return.
The insta360 certainly does give it alot more perspective over the gopro footage having that extra field of view and angle certainly helps alot - GoPro definately have a smoother and more refined camera but they need to adapt more things much like the insta360 into them... the insta360 is a good product

YES! 360 cams feel robotic and programmed, there is no feeling of riding a bike like his old gopro vids. Complete garbage.
