I've been learning Croatian for six weeks and wanted to let you know that your videos have been immensely helpful. Thank you!!! My goal for the first few months is to listen/read/acquire words and postpone worrying too much about grammar. But as I make progress, I want to get answers about grammar rules! But still, I just study them with "no stress" and keep focusing on being in the language as much as I can. To be honest, the first time I watch a new video of yours my head hurts (no fault of yours!!! 😂) but as I learn more words and notice more patterns I come back and watch them again and again. Each time I understand a little more, and I am grateful that you simplify things but also don't skip over important information... when I need it, when I am ready to understand, I come back and sure enough, you have answered my questions. :) So for anybody who is reading this feeling overwhelmed, try to just take this all in and then come back later and you will be so proud of your progress! :) Hrvatski je težak, ali lijep jezik. I'm so happy that you're sticking with it and progressing forwards! Great job! Yes, Croatian is hard, but still very possible to learn it. I like your approach of not getting bogged down by grammar. Grammar is supposed to be learned gradually. I believe you're doing the right thing by just immersing yourself in the language, and then when you notice a pattern, check it out and learn the rule. I'm so happy the videos have been helpful! As for the listening practice, I haven't done much research on that. Maybe try to search out "priče za djecu" on youtube and see if something comes up that will be simple enough for you? Usually the children stories are spoken slowly and clearly. Might be a good asset!
Cool class. Question of the day: If I say "I was reading a book when he arrieved", in Croatian would be "Čitao sam knjigu kad je stigao"; but if I want to say "I have been reading a book weekly" in Croatian must I use the perfective - "Pročitao sam knjigu tjedno"?
Pročitao sam knjigu tjedno would be I had read a book a week. For the present perfect (I have been reading) you could use the present tense but the perfective verb - pročitam knjigu tjedno. I read a book every week - svakog tjedna pročitam jednu knjigu.

Hi Ines! I was looking into possessive adjectives in Croatian and I was confused on when to use each ending (Like -ov, -ski, -in). I know how they follow the gender/case, but is there a rule of what ending you would use depending on the word? Because I think brodski is the possessive adjective form of brod, and mamina is the adjective form of mama, so is there a way of knowing how to form it depending on the word? Hopefully this makes sense, thank you 😂
Hi Hunter! This is a great question! I'll be making a video about adjectives and possessive adjectives are quite important. Thr general rule of tthumb is that you use - ov, - ev, - in for possessive adjectives derived from personal names and you write them with a capital letter, while -ski, -ški -čki normally is derived from names of countries and geographical places, and these are not capitalized. I would need to explain more but it's tough to do here. Let me make a video about it in the next few weeks and I'll try to clear it up more.

Then he went on rant about how his village in virovitica 70 years ago didn't need school and could speak blah blah without degrees. Lol
Hahahahhahah! Your dad is absolutely right ahahha! Well, as far as the position of the auxiliary verb is concerned, for locals it doesn't really matter if it's in the second place or not. I just thought it would be helpful for new learners to have the rule to follow. Which is actually the most correct way to speak even though a lot of locals don't follow or even know about the rule.

The noun knjiga changed the case. It became the direct object in the sentence so it changed from Nominative case to Accusative case.
