    Hi! There is an option of section height and width for each section in squarespace. You can adjust the spacing by single click (pencil icon= for editing the section) instead of adding spacers to save time and to make it responsive for mobile version too :)

    Thank you sooo much for making this video! I have been going crazy trying to find a video on how to create a case study but every video either glosses over the technical step by step tutorial or they just talk about what to put in it. This is exactly what I was looking for. I'm currently taking Springboard and they unfortunately don't show you how to create a case study just what to put in it :(

    • @AlienaCai
      @AlienaCai  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad it was helpful! I'm aware that most online courses and bootcamps don't teach you how to put together a case study. It also took me a really long time to figure it out and to put this video together, because it's risky to show someone a "right" way to do it since no two projects are the same. I'm really glad that my video is helpful for you and let me know if you have more questions ❤️ Have fun with bootcamp and portfolio building!

    Couple of things I'm wondering as a beginner If you feel like it you could answer through a video with examples which would be lovely! do you use premade components when wireframing? For example figma community has a lot of premade wireframing components, do you think its better to make your own when building an app or its better to use the premade ones? I think using premade ones saves time, do you use premade components at your job? Another one about design systems, when would you make your own design system and when would you use a well established design system such as material design from google? Thank you for this video btw! It was very informative!

    • @AlienaCai
      @AlienaCai  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      These are great questions and I've note these down and might make a video on it. To answer your questions: 1) I don't use any pre-made wireframes component for wireframing. It's a personal choice, simply because I think the purpose of wireframing is to sketch out ideas asap and I don't try to make a wireframe look great. Hence, all I use are rectangles, circles, and text boxes with different shades of grey. 2) I make my design system when there's no pre-made design system (e.g., when I'm working on a personal project and when a startup don't have a design system yet.) However, I would sometimes borrow assets from bigger design systems, especially icons, to put into my own design system to save time. / I would stick to a larger design system only if I'm working for that company. E.g., if I'm working for Airbnb, I will use their design system from head to toe. But if I'm just building a personal project, I'm not going to make my app looks like another airbnb. That's a lot of words and I hope it kinda answers your questions 😊😊

    Hi Aliena, I really love your channel and the content you share with us. I switched from graphic design to UX because I was wondering but also because of you. Actually I had questions regarding the Usability Study part and how to find proper sample of participants. Could you like give us your personal recommendation of free/affordable usability study or testing tool please ? I’ve been trying to find good ones for a while as interviewing people around you could be tricky.

    • @AlienaCai
      @AlienaCai  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe check out www.uxtweak.com/ I actually did all my usability studies with my friends/roommates and it worked since my products don't have extremely specific audience. If you want to become a UX designer, you don't have to focus too much on user testing. In fact the project that got me a job actually doesn't have any user testing because that startup I worked with didn't have the resource to do so, so I went ahead and presented how I made design decisions without direct user feedbcak. If you are taking courses, please do a user testing, and it's fine to do it with your friends 😄

    Hi. thank you so much for this practical and useful tutorial. this is one of those issues that I had. like I know that I don't know something but I can't find a solution for it because I don't know exactly the question.😅 For example, I knew how to create a case study but I didn't exactly know how to create a portfolio and how to put my case study details on the portfolio. I don't know if it's because of my English ( cause it is not amazing) or that I'm inexperienced.
    what do you think is the best option for someone who is looking for a free platform to showcase the portfolio? I live in Iran and because of financial issues and sanctions, I don't have many options. (Figma, PortfolioBox, Notion)
    THANK YOU AGAIN AND GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR TH-cam CHANNEL.👏

    Loving your content Aliena! Question - should I include my storyboards on my portfolio?

    • @AlienaCai
      @AlienaCai  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there, for each case study, there's no need to showcase the process chronologically and there's also no need to showcase every step.
      With that being said, it's helpful to showcase the important steps that drive important design decisions or iterations. If you are proud of the storyboards and it's something that helped to make the design decision, then include it. Otherwise there's no need 👍

    When creating scenarios, how do we get the (15%) percent figures as solo designers like you mention in 4:47

    • @AlienaCai
      @AlienaCai  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a great great great question, I have to be honest with you that for new UXers, your first few projects may not be implemented or measured at all, so you have to estimate the number (that's fine to do) to emphasize your biggest impact/strength. Or else, you can leave out numbers and put quote from users (or people who participated in your user study). The idea is to emphasize that your design solved a problem/ led to an impact.

Can you please advise what needs to be added and excluded if my specialty is UI designing? Also, I am a beginner meaning I have no collabs or clients. Instead, i am designing new apps or planning to redesign present apps for the experience. Do you recommend I complete my present project and upload it on online platforms like Behance? I would suggest you to start building your portfolio after you finished the first project. That will help you to practice how to piece everything together and present it as a story 🙌 After you finish the course and look back to the portfolio you prepared now, you will probably hate it, but in a good way, because your design sense/skill will increase and that's the time where you can do another iteration on your first project both on its design and on the portfolio.

Has the website been updated? coz these options are unavailable to me and the interface also looks a little different. I'm really lost. :( Could you help?

      The design is done on Figma and the web is built on Squarespace. I recommend checking out Figma channel on TH-cam and checking out the Google UX course www.coursera.org/professional-certificates/google-ux-design?ranMID=40328&ranEAID=vgdR6kEGfog&ranSiteID=vgdR6kEGfog-ceSiuPAdulLi368lrKAmTQ&siteID=vgdR6kEGfog-ceSiuPAdulLi368lrKAmTQ&R6kEGfog

      Taking the Google UX Course is probably a good idea, and the Figma channel can also help as Aliena suggested. I'd also recommend Dev Ed on TH-cam for Figma.

    • @AlienaCai
      @AlienaCai  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In Figma community page search mobile mock-up. Many explained it in the file. Usually you need to play around with where to place the layer of your design, or simply add a rounded corner to your design layer.

    can Anybody suggest a good topics to start a case study.

    • @oghenekaro
      @oghenekaro 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      No particular topic comes to mind, but try to identify a problem with existing products you use every day and then try to solve it. For example, you might find that choosing what video to watch on TH-cam is a problem, and that can be a UX project to take on.

    • @arpit6986
      @arpit6986 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My personal suggestion is that you have to choose a topic in which you are interested and you like to do that, like camping, shopping, workout, or anything you would like to do,

      @@durgeshchore8665 I'm not sure, but Heroku could be an option worth considering, however it might require some coding knowledge. I've used it during my Full-Stack Web Development Course.
      Personally I'm considering doing my own website, but Heroku definitely could be a viable option for a portfolio. Perhaps Wix could also be worth considering, especially if you do not have prior coding knowledge. It also seems to be a viable option.
