My thesis advisor recommended his method for keeping track of his references and it worked amazing for me. He would create a spreadsheet where he has columns for the article title, authors, abstract, notes/takeaways/summary written in your own words, citation of this paper.
It was really helpful to keep track of my data and references and made looking up things much faster, so I highly recommend this technique

Currently writing my BSc Mathematics dissertation and this has been SO helpful - thank you so much. I am also off to Cambridge for my MPhil in Population Health Sciences (Health Data Science) so hearing tips specifically for master's has been fantastic also :)

Hey Ellie. Wondered if u had any advice for people from non Oxbridge backgrounds at under grad. Currently in my third year at Warwick maths, and have offers from Oxford and Cambridge, but didn’t think I would ever get into either. Is there anything you recommend to help with the “imposter syndrome” effect?

    • @EllieSleightholm

Hey Edward, congratulations, that’s amazing!!! For sure, the imposter syndrome hit me very hard as soon as I got my Oxbridge offers, I wont lie! The important things for me were remembering that you deserve those oxbridge offers; the departments at both institutes clearly thought you were excellent enough to be selected. That in itself is something you should be extremely proud of! I spent too long comparing myself against other people that I didn’t focus on why I was there - I love maths 😂 as soon as I stopped comparing myself to others, I felt a massive weight lifted. There are people at these institutes just as passionate as you are about maths and working with them is such an amazing experience. You worked hard at undergrad and deserve both those offers!! I struggled a lot with imposter syndrome so if you want to message me privately (Instagram is probs best) then please feel free! ☺️

You would have surely studied John von Neumann's work on hydrodynamics.

Do you recommend any tool for keeping a file on literature we read? I currently use notion pages to write small descriptions for each paper

Honestly anything that works for you! I kept mine quite simple and had a word document where I’d just make bullet points for each resource! :)

Is it out there yet? I would really love to see it! ❤I’m currently writing my Bachelor thesis (as a german undergraduate). You‘re structure and set up of the document looks very nice and neat. I already worked with latex but never set up a document on my own (just filling the code in…), so this would be super helpful for me :D

@@Amathma-fz7eu yes! I've put a lot of work into making the source code neat with comments so it's easy for people to amend and use for their own dissertation. I've also included my the pdf version of my dissertation, the images that went along with it and a guide to getting started. You can find it here! payhip.com/b/L1V9I
Good luck with your Bachelor thesis!! You'll do amazing 🤩
