Nick Cravat and Burt Lancaster, were childhood buddies having met when they were kids at summer camp in New York and later in the 1930s, Cravat and Lancaster became partners in acrobat act in vaudeville and circuses and then they appeared in a film, called the flame and the arrow in 1950 and Cravat went on to be in eight more Lancaster films until 1977
I used to watch this film and "The Flame & The Arrow" on TV for years! My Dad introduced them to me as he was a fan of them (and other swashbuckling films) as well. Lancaster did many of his own stunts and it's amazing what they did while filming! That's the trouble with a lot of today's films - they are just not fun anymore!
I like how the film it takes its not that seriously and just go straight for lighthearted adventure, comedy with some brilliant, slapstick sequences sprinkled in
This was my late mothers favorite film and we were so excited when a high quality copy was released on Betamax back in the 1980s. I still have that Betamax copy plus a DVD I gave my mom for Christmas when that version came out. Always worth a rewatch!
I did know that this was one of sir Christopher lee earliest screen appearances a few years before he got the role of Dracula in the hammer horror films in 1958 and decades before he was Count, Dooku in the Star Wars movies and Saruman in the lord of the rings and hobbit movies

You are very right about the music I do like how the music is very playful and bombastic it adds to the comedy sequences
