I think the leatherman surge is the best multi tool in the world my leatherman surge comes with the leatherman bit kits and ratchet driver it's a great multi tool kit love it thanks for the video 👍
Both are great edc tools. I added the ratchet and a 1/4" drill bit, a 5" ferro rod and added several t shank tools to my Surge. I bought the Victorinox SwissChamp and took it as my primary edc on an 8 day canoe trip and it saved the day many times.
I bought a Work Champ online, and my initial reaction upon unboxing it was, "Holy moly, this is far too heavy for an EDC." So I started looking for a replacement that would be smaller but still cover my tool needs. I looked and looked, but nothing really convinced me. Every option was missing at least one critical feature. In the meantime, I started simply carrying the Work Champ around, and what do you know? I got used to it. It has now officially become my EDC multi-tool.
@goldensack_fieldadventuref4538 it just looks too fat to be comfortable. You don't find that to be the case? Also, when would you need a hoof cleaner and Marlin spike?
@@SpectacularSuperSoup In fact, I have many Swiss Army knives, about 10 or 12, but I carry only two every day: the Victorinox Work Champ XL and the Victorinox Equestrian. So now you know I have a horse on my farm. Actually, I use the hoof cleaner tool instead of the marlin spike to loosen tight knots because the tip of the hoof cleaner is not as sharp as the tip of the marlin spike, which could cause injuries if not used carefully. :-)
I do indeed, own and EDC it. 17 1/2 years in construction, and 2 1/2 years in heavy construction equipment mechanics. I’ve carried many Leatherman‘s and Swiss Army knives in that time. But I carry the surge for about eight years now. I kinda miss my wave, but it definitely comes in handy. And I need to buy a new sawblade, file and a replacement small-screwdriver.
I have the surge and 2 additional storage cards of bits. It is a heavy guy next to the wave I have (and now seldom use). I imagine if you pegged the surge at someone's face it would cause them a mighty amount of discomfort.
I hate the fact that Leatherman (like a lot of companies) has moved towards one hand opening of the main blade. And which hand? The right hand. No left handed version is offered. It makes it awkward for lefties like myself. So, no thanks Leatherman!
@@caoimhin7122 you know you can just change where the blade is located then you have a left handed knife. Surge is the best by far, you can take it apart and maintain it is what I like. As long as the multi tool you are looking at has torques instead of pins then you should be able to mod any of them over to a left hand operation. Hope this helps.
I have a leatherman Surge and I also carry a milwaukee 6 in 1 for both my edc. If I could change anything it would be the blade on my surge as I do not use it and it was poorly shaped from factory. Wish I could get a magna cut blade for it instead.
I own a lot of multitools...but not any of the large SAKs. I really like that long reach phillips 1 on the Hercules/Work Champ. Very often the little Phillips screws are deeply recessed, like on toys. I think that having long-reach screwdriver options are something a lot of us dont consider in our kits.
You speak the truth. I have a Work Champ, and it's come in so handy so many times when I need to change batteries in my kids' toys or some other small electronic devices. Normal philips screwdrivers are both too fat and short.

I had Victorinox Work Champ XL (31 functions tools that bigger than your Work Champ) about 7 years and carrying its everyday.

@goldensack_fieldadventuref4538 then it's like the perfect SAK for you. Very cool.

Lol... I happen to own both. The surge is great, the flat bit kit you can buy for it is what makes it
If you like plier based tools. You should’ve compared the leatherman to the Swisstool or spirit with the ratchet kit

I own both of these, great tools though i find the cap lifter on the sak better than the surge.
