Also I think it's cool how Metroid movement has become less floaty and clunky and more snappy like Mega Man over time. Not to say the original movement was bad: I actually like Samus' signature floatyness. But the idea that her suit is becoming more organic and streamlined and fused to her body and her being able to perform much more natural movements makes sense to me in my own head canon lmao.
Footnote: the high contrast graphical style, I think, is meant to mimic the original pixel art graphics. In pixel art, it's common to have the "voided" areas blacked out while only the interactive surfaces have detail/light. I think that's what they went for here.
Super Metroid often gets tagged for having "dated" or "unresponsive" movement but in truth that's one of the farthest misconceptions. Super Metroid's movement controls have a high skill ceiling. It's much less streamlined for newer players and I understand why some dislike it. That being said, anyone who's speedran the game, even casually, knows how fluid the movements can be when practiced. There's an acceleration to the movement that I really love and hasn't been Incorporated into any of the games beyond SM. This obviously doesn't make any metroid games beyond Super "bad" but there's also a reason why the speedruns of SM have such a diverse and unique way of clearing rooms in record time.
I generally replace Other M with a headcanon: Adam was more of a respected mentor than “the greatest father figure”, strict perhaps but not so cold as what we got in Other M, teaching her what he knew that her Chozo family didn’t. In whatever way he died to save Samus, it was a more meaningful sacrifice that not only omitted his shooting Samus in the back, but also provided a reason for Samus to leave the Federation and work alone. With all that in mind, Fusion seems more bearable, and I was actually kinda glad to see that the Adam AI survived the destruction of the BSL station and SR-388. He’s still a little explainy in Dread, but part of it is probably for new/newer players.
The best part is, the cut scenes actually flow well into gameplay. It’s awesome that it’s so seamless. Half the time, I’ve watched videos of the game, and most people couldn’t tell when it was a cut scene, and when it was actual gameplay. that’s how good it is.
if you want an unbiased opinion: this is the first Metroid game I've ever played and I adore it so far! It looks great, feels great, and so far I've had no complaints about anything. It's really a great game
It’s great but in a different way than what made some of the classics great. A signature of the series has always been backtracking and free exploration, which dread doesn’t let you do too much of. If you dig dread, play super Metroid on switch online, it’s the OG for good reason
@@guitarguy42394 It let’s you do that, you just have to intentionally go from the intended path. Hell Dread has the most glitchless developer intended sequence breaks since Zero Mission.

Wow, going back and watching this after finally beating the game for myself, I realized something cool: *SPOILERS* Raven Beak has the same moves in the opening cutscene as he does in his actual boss fight at the end of the game.
I am impressed what Mercury Steam did with the Metroid franchise. Metroid Dread has shown us how the Spanish studio has improved since their Castlevania Lords of Shadow Days.
I only just got Dread a few days ago and already played all the way through it. I'm so glad I deliberately avoided actually watching anyone play it before I got a chance to, but now I can finally watch Vin play it and be as excited as I was
I kept and keep seeing people online complaining about the game looking "bad". Which i just do not understand even in the slightest, everything looks as good as i would think it would, the switch is not a Ps5 or a super advanced gaming pc, but even then this game looks amazing, in my opinion. The artstyle is nice and the designs are a very cool mixture of modernized stuff, Samus's Suit looks like a logical step between Fusion and Dread, as it seems to be regenerating and stuff, which explains the organic and mechanical look.
Regarding the question of Dark Knight memes, I feel compelled to mention that there's an "adult movie" where the plot is wearing Bane masks will get you affection from women and at one point the man's johnson has its own Bane mask.
Its amazing how Vinny can have moments where he can demolish the game and then others where it feels like he lost an important motor skill. There is never an in between.
I was watching another video, didn't realize it was over, then all of a sudden I get blasted with Vinny's rendition of the Metroid theme on kazoo... or stylophone. No complaints here XD
Same. Didn’t care for Metroid at all before I was introduced to Vinny. I’ve still never played a single game in the series, but I have so much respect for it now thanks to Vinny’s admiration of it.
I really like dread because it makes a lot of effort to both add and answers elements of the story that we've wanted to know about for years. It makes me so happy to see that even if dread has a few shortcomings, you can really feel the effort they put into it. A lot of love went into this game. I'm not sure how they nailed the dynamic for new players and long time fans together so well
Played Other M (or Mother as I like to call it) recently, after having watched it played several times to get a look at its story. The gameplay is surprisingly fun and you can see parts of it in both SR and Dread (the parry and overall more fluid combat). What fucks it all up though is its control scheme, which is in all honesty quite horrendous. Not only are there not enough buttons on the Wiimote, which you hold side-ways of course, but you also don't get to use a control stick to move Samus around. Adding to that would be the first person mode, forcing you to hold the Wiimote upright to aim at the screen, leaving you in a static position. This faux Metroid Prime facsimile stops all momentum the gameplay had and starts to annoy the player quite fast. It ended up being a feature I only used when I was forced to. Dodging and countering should not be bound to motion controls. Changing the control scheme to one allowing both a control stick and all of the usual buttons would make gameplay far more responsive and feasible. Scrapping the first person view for combat would also be wise, just give the option to scan things in first person. Story is a whole other problem, though.
I know, right? I wonder how the guy who wrote the "y can't metroid crawl" post feels now. He's been meme'd into oblivion, only to have validation from the devs on both the crawling part *and* the "calling Samus Metroid" part.

15:20 - Apparently Adam is now Soundwave.
It’s nice Adam is back, a good reference to fusion
My head canon is just
different planets, different gravity
Such a great return for the series, and i'm happy that it's selling well
Boy have i missed this type of games for sooo looong
Yeah this game single handling make every other indie Metroidvania look like shit.
@@diegomedina9637 Dunno if I'd go THAT far, but it definitely stands head and shoulders above most of them.
@@astracrits4633 same
Other M isn't canon to me so seeing ADAM again just made me unreasonably happy.
Fusion is smiling from beyond the grave right now.
He’s still a little explainy in Dread, but part of it is probably for new/newer players.
well bad news for you, dread makes other m canon (even though it always was)
Dread makes other m canon it’s one of the endings in dread
I ADORE how cinematic this game is, I need to pick this up when I can! Everything seems really well executed and fun to play.
The best part is, the cut scenes actually flow well into gameplay. It’s awesome that it’s so seamless. Half the time, I’ve watched videos of the game, and most people couldn’t tell when it was a cut scene, and when it was actual gameplay. that’s how good it is.
An actual real sequel. I'm pumped from just the intro.
Not only that, but a sequel to my favorite game no less. It also just so happened to be my first Metroid experience, Metroid Fusion.
12:44 - I think the implication is the 'Chozo' took all her awesome powerups.
if you want an unbiased opinion: this is the first Metroid game I've ever played and I adore it so far! It looks great, feels great, and so far I've had no complaints about anything. It's really a great game
I've only managed to counter an EMMI a handful of times. It is VERY hard.
Hell Dread has the most glitchless developer intended sequence breaks since Zero Mission.

was this comment a reference to something?

Binyot and Metroid, a perfect combination.

the only thing more fitting is Joel and Metroid
I hope no one spoils Vinny with this, like the metroid 2 remake
The EMMI are absolutely terrifying. I love how much I hate going into the EMMI areas
So fucking nice to have Vinny back

Metroid bros, we fucking made it.
seeing this absolutely beautifully drawn artwork during the intro recap of the past games just wants me to have them all be remade in that art style. i know that they are perfectly playable to this day but these pictures just look so damn good

his reaction to finding out countering the E.M.M.I is super hard is priceless
what episode is this in the long series of "Vinny justifies his Pokemon Card addiction"
I feel like when people talk about the Prime games they often won't talk about how unbelievably gorgeous they look, especially considering the hardware they are on. Especially prime 3, which to this day I think is the best looking game to date.
For 2001, Prime 1 is stunningly beautiful, even 20 years later.
I hope you mean best looking Metroid game and not best looking game period.
Wow, going back and watching this after finally beating the game for myself, I realized something cool:
*SPOILERS*
Raven Beak has the same moves in the opening cutscene as he does in his actual boss fight at the end of the game.
Man it's been such a long time since the story actually went forward and not back.
Right? It's still silly to me that there are 5 games in between Metroid and Metroid 2

I only just got Dread a few days ago and already played all the way through it. I'm so glad I deliberately avoided actually watching anyone play it before I got a chance to, but now I can finally watch Vin play it and be as excited as I was
Glad the sax virus are back I hope nintendo goes with a lot more horror like fusion did. Fusion was amazing
have i got good news for you
I kept and keep seeing people online complaining about the game looking "bad".
The suit is repairing itself. Ever since Fusion when it was mostly removed its slowly reforming to how it originally looked
2:11:09 I was skipping ahead a bit and I just so happened to hear "That's a funny fetus" completely out of context and I couldn't stop laughing.
Regarding the question of Dark Knight memes, I feel compelled to mention that there's an "adult movie" where the plot is wearing Bane masks will get you affection from women and at one point the man's johnson has its own Bane mask.

I really like dread because it makes a lot of effort to both add and answers elements of the story that we've wanted to know about for years. It makes me so happy to see that even if dread has a few shortcomings, you can really feel the effort they put into it. A lot of love went into this game. I'm not sure how they nailed the dynamic for new players and long time fans together so well
already can't wait for vinny to play more of this
That Stylophone this was pretty rad.
I’d kill for a Red Vox Metroid cover album.
It's a nice detail to see Vinny playing Metroid and Castlevania at the same time. :) plus october theme,.

The ambient. The backgrounds. The animations. Everything is so amazing!
25:28 the addiction...
Metroid Dread has shown us how the Spanish studio has improved since their Castlevania Lords of Shadow days.
Vinny is someone who casually cross-counters Shaggy and has no idea the significance of it. A true legend with powers beyond his own understanding.
I hope if another vinesauce fangame like marios mystery meat is made they find a way to incorporate vinnys shitty version of the item obtain jingle

It's like everyone forgot Samus being a Metroid was a thing in Fusion too.
@@DarkLink1996. We didn't forget she has Metroid DNA. It's just that people didn't consider her a Metroid because she didn't really show signs of being anything beyond "human woman who is immune to the X parasite".
