    Very enjoyable. Collected a BB 58 last week and even discounting the bang per buck I prefer the design . Comfortable, beautiful and plus 2 secs a day.Tudor have done a great job.

      Congratulations on the gorgeous piece, Richard! I'm dying to get one in my hands and experience the size. It's so refreshing that the brand is bringing out smaller pieces. Wear it in good health and thank you for the comment and the appreciation, it really means a lot!

    I agree the square indices are original amd special. It would be great if you got in a Tiger Concept homage and reviewed it. Cheers.

      Already ahead of you Geary ;) It is unreal (and I haven't taken it off) Right now I'm trying to pool together tonnes of video essays while the move is still going on and I hope to do some reviews again in the future. Thanks for the comment as always, man!

    What about the Tudor Pelagos? Is that not a modern rendition of the Snowflake?

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To an extent I think it is (and I should have mentioned it in the clip) but it still doesn't feel like a sub, at least to me. It's chunkier and bulkier. What I should have said is that the design needs to return to that sleeker profile that we all know and love, but Tudor's new identity probably won't allow for that. Thanks for the comment, man!

    • @4034miguel
      @4034miguel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Precisely, what prevented me from acquiring the Pelagos was the overall size: It is too big and chunky but I love the design. If only Tudor does the same as they did with the BB58, it would be perfect for me in its proportions. Always liked the square indices and snowflake hands more than the Rolex style. In the meantime NTH was my solution :-)

    Great video as always. Can you please make a video giving your thoughts on the German flieger design? Think laco, iwc, stowa...etc, and even Tisell, parnis, steinhart, and archimede. When you look at each flieger carefully (especially the type A) dial, you will notice subtle changes with the Arabic numeral printing, and changes regarding the shape and size of their hands. Finally, I would like your opinion on your favourite variation of each flieger.

      This has been a topic that I've been wanting to do for a while (and now just added it to the list). It's going to be a lot of fun to make and thank you so much for the suggestion! They are all fascinating designs that need more light shed on them.

    I've always been drawn to the design of the NTH Nacken Modern Blue...now I know why. Enjoyed the video.

      Thank you David! The NTH is a beauty, I've been considering picking one up (but found a new piece from Tiger Concept that is unbelievably good - slapped an ETA inside it and it's a gem) Cheers for the comment!

    As a designer too i dare to say I'm totally on Tudor's side. Sharp, bold, dares to through all those squares on a round dial, finishing it all up with a even more surprising hour hand. Seconds hand is square shaped too. Even the rectangulars are ...2 squares exactly. It's like a square tried to escape and the hour hand was a snake that shallowed it.... Plus that ghost face smiling at us captured in a shield. Total winner for me!
    On the other side now. Never liked the Rolex's dial, especially the "mercedes" hand is like a sticker on it. Does not make any sence for me/ looks ugly in fact. Even the proportions of the two main hands are a bit off for my taste. Just the dots markers look fine... Plus the oldest the model, the better the looks! Not the same in Tudors, am i wrong? All subs that started the snowflake design ending to BB's and (wow) Pelagos are getting better and better, ain't so?
    Ready guys? HIT ME! But be fair and ...square!!!!! LMAO!!!!
    PS. Unfortunately mate there is a product that is (almost) perfect. Luckily not in "our" fields. They call it "religion"/ sells big around the globe...

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment, man! I agree with everything you said (especially about the mercedes hand and religion hahaha) Very insightful. I always enjoy your input in the discussions! Cheers!

    Thanks for the vid...you raise lots of good points I hadn't considered. That said, I never did (and still don't) like the square Tudor indices or snowflake hands; it probably is the lack of congruence with the case shape that jars me. On the other side, I'll commit an act of blasphemy and state that I also never liked that set of Rolex hands. Give me a broader sword-shaped handset like Seiko or Orient use on their basic divers any day! Great vid, keep it up!

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well Evan, I covet the Ginault and it's sword hands over the standard hands too and have fallen in love with the snowflake hands. That image at 3:50 is like my definition of badass. Trust me when I say that I didn't find the tudor layout appealing, but it all changed when the watch was in my hands. Now I'm wearing it 24/7. But I totally know what you mean about Seiko hands (like on the Sumo) some brands just have a clearer approach to things. And thanks for the appreciation, man!

    Interesting you did this video. I was thinking of doing one asking whether the trad Rolex dial is banal or beautiful. . . and I've considered several times having snowflake hands put on my watch.

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment, man! I think the Rolex dial falls into the category of banal and beautiful. It is just so ubiquitous that we overlook it nowadays. That's the problem with great design...it really does fall into the background

    I actually prefer the vintage Tudors to the new Black Bays but the price on the vintage pieces are racing out of my reach. The Black bay 58 may be the only one that I like but I still prefer the vintage pieces. For me the snowflake is one of the best and iconic dial designs out there.

    In 2004, I had the chance to choose between a NOS Snowflake and a NOS Baby Ploprof. I chose the baby Ploprof because it was a lot less common, and yet I'm still wondering if I should have got the Snowflake. Don't get me wrong, I love my baby Ploprof.

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      UUUGH! What a hard choice...but hey, there is no point in wondering 'what if' - you could still find one nowadays and try to low ball a price hahaha! And the Baby Ploprof is still a great piece! In my opinion the ploprof line is the only line that is allowed to have sharkmesh ;) Thanks for the comment, man!

      @@ID-Guy My baby Ploprof is on sharkmesh, and it's gorgeous! The Snowflake I could have bought was about the same price as the Ploprof, too... 😰

    I like both approaches but even more than the brash, functional Pelagos, is the BB58. Round indices, snowflake hands. Perfect balance IMHO and so I put my money where my taste lies.

    Also the "snowflake" should be called the "saltflake" since ice crystals are hexagonal and salt crystals square, it'd make it more fitting.

    Doesn't make the lack of negative space the snowflake dial less readable at quick glance?

    Another topical video IDGuy. It's hard to compare anything to the Rolex Submariner, as the design is so wonderfully done. But, if anything can compete, this would be it. For me, the AP Royal Oak is the best-designed watch of all time. The Rolex Submariner is a close second and the Lange 1 takes watch design to the next level.

      Hahahaha! Craig, you don't want to watch my latest video on the Patek, AP and Rolex "One Watch", I say a few mean things about the AP...And thanks for your excellent comments as always, man! Again, I'm sorry if I offended you about your Hulk the other day...I just felt that real feelings about things need to be aired (because so many other channels just nod their heads about things)

    I sat next to a guy with a sub on the plane last week. Looked at it pretty much all flight. It is such a boring old man watch. I was kind of conditioned by the internet that is THE SUB the LEGEND but having a good long look at it, it is bland. Snowflake all the way.

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think because we have seen so much of them, they have lost their punch. I tend to wear a Snowflake dial over the standard sub dial nowadays just because of that reason. It's so good, but also so bland haha! Thanks for the comment!
