Tracie Oldham was interviewed for the Life Stories component of the research project Care Leaver Activism & Advocacy: From Deficit Models To Survivor Narratives.
Thank you Tracie for sharing more of your story, this is a great interview. One that is very real, hopefully people really listen. The system is broken and we need more people like you being prepared to help raise more awareness.
“I think this is what we all want to hear: That we are not alone in hitting Rock Bottom and that it is possible to come out of that place courageous, and strong. - Thank You Dee for giving me the opportunity to talk about my lifetime of cruelty, Injustice and triumph over adversity. -
The term 'voluntary placements' was used to describe children who were in 'care' but had NOT been made a ward of the state under Victorian child welfare legislation. - A child in such a situation was sometimes referred to as a 'voluntary ward'. - Such children were often placed in Homes by their parents during times of hardship or crisis, and often only for short-term stays. - People who came into 'care' in Victoria under such 'voluntary' arrangements can experience particular difficulties in locating and accessing records. - www.findandconnect.gov.au/ref/vic/biogs/E000668b.htm#tab5
Thank you for sharing your story Tracie... you are one brave woman with love and respect to you. Keep on shining. Ri. 💫🤍🌹
