This is some psychedelic bliss straight from Congo. Sad western media doesn't highlight the vast congolese music scene, instead of the wars. Let love and peace prevail over imperialism. Free the Congo!
"From Kinshasa" is a groundbreaking album in every sense of the word. Want to just sit and listen to music? "From Kinshasa". Want to dance like its a rave? "From Kinshasa". "From Kinshasa" is hands down my most exciting musical discovery since the 1990's. It is so eclectic: Congolese, Post Punk, Cuban, Industrial, Samba, Synth, Dub, etc.....and seamlessly (SEAMLESSLY) woven into a new sound. No band before Devo sounded anything like Devo. Same for Mbongwana Star. This album has a tonal and textural complexity that I've never heard before. It is a vast sonic landscape, familiar and otherworldly at the same time. This sound is not from the continent of Africa. It is a signal received from Planet Congo of the Africa Nebula. Listening to this album on anything without DEEP bass is like trying to watch "Avatar 3D" on an Apple watch. Please use a full-range audiophile system or quality earbuds/headphones. Forget MP3. Lossless only. This album is a demo dream. Play this if you sell audiophile gear and want to move those $80,000 speakers. "From Kinshasa" is a deep and complex cityscape of sound. The images, particularly the vocals, are tightly anchored in 3D space. Some of the outside imaging (left of the left speaker, right of the right speaker) is near-field and downright spooky. The sonic background is vanta black. Louis Armstrong was once asked what was his favorite kind of music. He said there are only two kinds: Good and Bad. Mbongwana Star is far on the good side; the sound of intense and soulful musical talent. They sound so "right". And the studio went to "11" in capturing this rightness. It keeps getting even better with repeat listenings. Coco Ngabali, Theo Nzonza, and Liam Farrell nailed it.
crazy stuf is that structurally is extremely similar to mainstream high level ectronic, but riffs like this can be found played in villages or block parties by kids for fun.. I speak for what I've seen but i guess it works for most Africa. Really cool track, speaks strong, cool and smart...
i love how the band konono, No.1 use band equipment from unusual things , Congo is where music began , we always say music came from Africa N us Africans say it came from Congo
+Angel V no there's no lyrics, and the translation will be hard to interpret. Even for me it's difficult. These were folklore story that were told to us generations to generations. The story, concept, and the the moral of it.
Mbonowanda Star were the on the mainstage and at the 4 day Calgary Folk Music Festival and they rocked! Amazing! I cant wait to hear more from and hope they return to Canada.
Dude same I was randomly getting away in a high stakes chase and thins song was blaring.. I could help but to dance 🤣. Then Google the song and was amazed at how old it was and the fact that it even ended up in fortnite
@@latinfection6538 well its not from originally from fortnite it was just featured on one of the radio stations in fortnite for some time but its not in the game anymore as they change the music after awhile
All I've learned is that Malukayi seems to come out from Swahili to English as "weavers." were the lyrics included with the album? Anybody remember albums? Sarcasm aside I'd like to know what is being said in these songs.
mediiskit Way to make assumptions about someone you know nothing about. And wow, it took you the best part of eight months to come up with that. What, did you need your mummy to help you out or something?
fuck you both! I am tired of this, allways arguing beacause your egos are big enough to can´t ignore each other... I´m still asking for the language!!! I don´t see the answer anywhere! At this point, fuck it too, fuck you two, I´m leaving
Finally found it! Me and a buddy of mine used to vibe to this song on radio underground in fortnite.

+ReallyNotReally Just did that and I got two likes. Life feels good now :)

+MonilothDreams1 haha definitely...."do you want LSD on your ice cream sir"

The Language Is Kikongo Of Kongo(DRC,Angola,CongoRep) People; They Are Telling A Story. These Songs Are Based On Stories From The Past. INGETA
+Kai Khader Beautiful music, beautifl language. Are their lyrics available online?
+Angel V no there's no lyrics, and the translation will be hard to interpret. Even for me it's difficult. These were folklore story that were told to us generations to generations. The story, concept, and the the moral of it.
+Kai Khader I understand. It would be great to be able to receive the full message. Thank you for answering.
+Angel V my father would be able to translate it but he is out of the country lol
+Kai Khader Greetings to you, and your father. Peace :)
I'd like to see the members real playing music if they make another video for this song! Love this song.
The slick electro-afrobeat reminds me a lot of NOMO. Great stuff.

Still great. A classic piece by real talent.
Love this song man. I am Jamaican not really from Africa.
Yes, you are. We all are.

The beginning reminds me of the beginning of "Haus der Lüge" from the "Einstürzende Neubauten"
"Malukayi" = "how are you" .
Interesting!
mediiskit I do, you dumbass. How ignorant.
+EddyMp what´s that language?

Great stuff ... sounds a little like a Gelati Van dancing the rhumba at a rave ... if that makes any sense
Vraiment superbe

This has its own genre
Awesome tune. I could easily see this being sampled into some nice hip hop as well. I'm looking at you Shad.
Great, From Kinshasa is certainly one of 2015 best albums.
So good, really hope it isn't ruined when someone inevitably samples it
