Southern Tree Squirrel (Smith's Bush Squirrel) Alarm Call & Video From Central Kruger National Park
The Southern Tree Squirrel, which is actually known as the Smith's Bush Squirrel (Paraxerus cepapi), is a common resident all around rest camps and woodland areas of the Kruger National Park. The Tree Squirrel is a beautiful and amazing character, they are a joy to watch, and easily overlooked. The entertaining antics of the Tree Squirrel can be seen at almost any time you see them; whether they are crossing the road with their tails "jumping" up and down, or whether pairs are chasing each other over trees.
The one thing about the Southern Tree Squirrel (Smith's Bush Squirrel - Paraxerus cepapi), is that they are excellent alarm callers - for birds and small mammals. If there is a snake, a bird of prey, or a Leopard in the vicinity, these cute little mammals are always first to know, their senses are really great.
This video was filmed around, and in, Olifants Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park, and their call and alarm sound can be heard in the background of this video.
