You can see mount egmont, down to the Lewis pass, over towards westport etc etc from up there on a clear day. I boiled the brakes on my honda CR250 going back down, 2/3 of the way down the pedal went dead. A guy with us in a SXS got back to the locked gate and his brakes were smoking like a coal train too. A great trip on a clear day.
Cool track, be awesome on a clear day. I could smell the anti-freeze in my Surf on that climb though. Reminded me I need to chuck a new radiator in when I do the next timing belt
Nice one guys. In the summer 2WD Vehicles can get up there...also never park underneath a Tower especially when there is snow about ! Big pieces of ice fall off them if its cold enough.
Had that happen at Mt Rochfort the day after the first snow. Big icicles and chunks of snow and ice. Fortunately I hadn't parked under it 😅 I got a full demo of why you shouldn't, as the wind picked up ahead if the next snow shower 😂
@qksmith ol mate local farmer took his brand new Mitsubishi sigma station wagon up there in summer no worries at all. Loaded up with school kids on a class trip. Same trip we went up there loaded with kids on the tray of the old man's 4x4 hilux circa 1984, that was pretty new at the time too. Try doing that these days and you'd be hung out to dry by the authorities.

I will have to go back on a good day.

I got a bigger radiator put in my Surf when I had it, only cost $280 at the time.

Wow I never thought of that, good advice thanks.

We went up there on dirt bikes on stinking hot day way back about in the early 90s and retired to the Owen River pub...!
Sounds good, we ended up at a hotel in St Arnaud
Cool always wanted to drive up there for a look how do u go about getting permission to go up? Is there a number i would need to call? Cheers
Graeme, who took us in did it with emails and phone calls to the Murchison council or Tasman District council I believe.
its hardly 4wd, its is a good quality service road, we have been up there in 2wd and Subaru's etc.
Yes, a big difference from where we had been that morning and the pervious 2 days.
