    Saw this live a few nights ago. The crowd went wild! A star is born.

    She is *fantastic* and I'd love to see this whole performance recorded! It's not commonly-performed and there's an all-star cast here.

    I turned on the radio broadcast of this last night, thinking I'd listen for just a few minutes. I listened for the entire three hours. It was absolutely spectacular and I'm so upset that they didn't film this one for theaters.

    Hurt egos can never inspire better than that, anyway. This dismally said, what an astounding performance by both awesome singers.

    Just got back from the final performance. Such outrageously subtle and perfect playing from the orchestra! At intermission they took their own bow, and the house went nuts.

    the libretto is certainly out of this world.
    these two certainly were given permission to go all out, no holds barred in their acting. when i saw it with appleby and blythe years ago, i don’t recall that it was this intense.

    I saw this at the Met in the late 1990's - My favorite Opera! Baba is a very difficult role, I think that the end of the scene is the end of this clip and then ...intermission. Baba stays in place through intermission and begins her aria without accompaniment and right on pitch with those treacherous intervals of Stravinsky done perfectly.

    The audio is horrible. You can barely hear anything. I'd expect more from such a highly acclaimed institution as the Met.

    her advantage is that she can sing for both a man and a woman, but she will never reach the tenor and soprano

    • @operafairy
      @operafairy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      she doesn't need it, she is mezzo and it's quite enough. In this context countertenors singing both male and female characters are more appropriate.

      She can't really sing for man 🤣
