If you drop a couple pan tabs in there every season your drain will be fresh and clean. Also bleach will not remove the mold, use regular white distilled vinegar for that.
If you haven't tried the Viper Venom Packs and sprayer you should. Their Evap cleaner is an enzyme based cleaner, and can be used in between major cleanings. My daughter's 13 and 16 install and work on these things. But yes they do need service.
Another consideration are the blower wheels on these head units. Mine get moldy, and are an absolute pain to get out. Once out, it’s fairly easy to clean with a quick pressure wash. You can also spray the coil fins on both the head units & outdoor condenser to clean & improve performance. Love your videos Handyman…..always learn something
South Texas and I have the same issue with blower wheels getting cruddy. You can tell when the blower wheels start getting cruddy because the fan speed will go all over the place due to being out of balance.
One way to help the mold is on install, the sleeve that goes through the wall to protect the lineset, fill that sleeve with caulk or spray foam before you’re done. Helps to fill from inside indoor unit too. That, and the tablets to breakdown solids and regular filter cleaning can really help a lot.
I remember the plastic going in as well, specifically because I had just been removing plastic from a whole house crawlspace for this exact reason. 100+yo house. If it's not done perfectly, which is nearly impossible after the fact, it really makes things worse. Air circulation and dehumidifiers are your friends boys and girls. One thing that may be worth a shot for that small of a space is the dehumidifier bags/buckets. I think Damprid is one of the name brands. Downside is they do need changing on occasion.
@@GimpGladly Ive heard old timers say you can make low tech dehumidifiers with 2 buckets nested together. Top one full of rock salt with holes drilled in bottom. 2nd one under it put a piece of wood or bricks to raise top bucket up to leave room for moisture to drip into it 👍
They make a skirt you can put around it...spray with coil cleaner...then rinse it with hot water with pump sprayer...those fan blades need cleaned...we hit it with a brush...these are notorious for water leaking....I do one or two a week...and hook the ole shop vac up like u did
That was the most normal good bye I've ever heard...I like your mini-split unit, I'm thinking about buying one for my detached garage, less for the AC and more for the Heat pump feature for the winter. AC would be nice but the heat would be even better but I'm not sure how good it would perform during an Ohio winter.
Here's a secret... Della = Pioneer = Cooper & Hunter = Blue Ridge = Turbro = Tosot... Etc. All made by Midea. Maybe some minor cosmetic differences on the indoor unit front covers, but same primary components and controls. Midea is the other major company other than Gree that he mentioned.

12% SH will destroy mold spores
That is incorrect

Wait, you can remove the blower fan? I painstakingly cleaned it with a brush while it was still inside the indoor unit.

Bummer they dont make these things easier to clean, like a pull out tray or something.
PS- Heyy i remember when u put that plastic down in that crawl.
Next spring I will be pulling all the fans out to clean them. That should be a fun job.
@@TheHandyman1 😳 yeah that sucks. They should make them so your average homeowner could clean and maintain them

I am looking for videos to see how I can do it myself and it looks like it is too involved or just too easy to break something.
Thank you for this
Could you do an EDC video? Or put Amazon links to your current edc? Thank you!
Great show Handy. Might have to jump over to another platform to get the real Handyman dialogue.
I’m no mold guru but doesn’t it need a food source to grow like paper or wood?
Not a mini split, but had an AC professional install my unit and well. Seems it has to be reworked because of the leaks and mold.

Makes sure to get one with wifi so you can pre heat your workshop remotely. Its nice to work into a warm workshop and get to work.
Love your videos..great stuff for diy like myself. Please do a maintenance on Della mini. Appreciate

How did you start learning HVAC?????
👍 correct pronunciation.
Great video handyman!
Can you drop a few anti-algae tabs in that tray on a regular basis?
Hope I don’t die of mold poisoning from watching this video Handyman, cause the weak will..🙄😆
Have you done a video on the Midea U Shape units?
Yes. they work well.
There a dead animal in the attic?
I work as a window cleaner and I can smell instantly if people have mold in their house 🤢
youtube used to have DM better times
I womder if putting a pool shock tablet in the drain tray once a year would solve the problem
Got to update my method of payment for your Patreon. It's been a while.

Thank you for your service.
Any patreon subs want to divulge what the source of the moldy smell was?
It was a mistake he made a last winter when he had to fix the ...... You should probably just go watch it, its worth the $5.
No high pitched voice about mold??? So sad. 😂😂😂
LOL There are 2 versions of this video. With an active contract I can't put to much out on TH-cam. Check patreon for the other videos.
Boy am I glad I didn't install these in my house!
Any type A/C system can get mold in it. You might not see it.
