So customers use the outhouse after eating there but the food stall uses the outhouses to resupply the food

Dang, this has gotta be either one of if not THE prettiest medieval colony builder I've seen in a long time.
The "developer" is just one person. Working on this soul project for at least 5 or 6 years already
if thats true than the game is even more impressive. we cant really tell how much actual content there will be, but at least production wise, regarding graphics sound and gameplay mechanics, this looks very much triple a. kudos to the dev.

for those wondering what splat was trying to do with the houses at 14:20. if the front of the house is facing the streets it will devive the huge plot into multiple smaller plots. allowing you to build multiple houses, you can easily switch the house facing before building them, using the circular arrow next to the built button. I used it to build 5 houses in one go. as for having food and other things in the back of the house they only need to be long enough. the game actually tells you if they can when you are designing the. if you see a cross they are long enough to hold a garden, a chicken coop, or a small goat farm. to build a farm you need tools(you start with one) goats and chicken coops require coins (you start with 0).

Yeah you have to start on the long street strip when you start on the side it try’s to build one if you run it long ways with the road it splits up better.

when I hear words such as "details" and "realism" I can only think of Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic from now on... that game will make anything else feel like child's toy
Fun fact about the peasants clothing: The hoodie can be pulled into the small hat with the one end hanging to the side out. It is the same piece of clothing, giving the wearer the option to decide on the weather how to wear it.

Interesting take on the City builder.
I like that they expanded how many jobs a unemployed villager can do. It bugs me a lot when games require you to have a building for basic jobs like building and hauling - but they expanded it far wider then those two.
I also like that it uses a "Lords and Villeins" style economy/family system.
And dynamic plot sizes. My guess is that the first line decides the "front" of the row of houses. That is why you kept having issues.
I like the family specialization angle it's a really cool way to manage the workforce.

Being PART OF THE WORLD instead of a disembodied cursor is VERY appealing in a game. Or at least being able to zoom in and see the world you build living and moving in detail
I love how the trees slowly change colors with the seasons in a natural way! Just a few trees at a time slowly changing colors until the forest shifts colors as a whole!
This Game is awesome! Wonderful graphics, a fantastic atmosphere and everything looks very natural

Niiiiice! I played the demo today and it's awesome, the level of detail in the animations that the villagers do blows my mind. It's a beautiful game.
there have been many indie games that Splat has showcased that i've put on my wishlist and or bought. the next fest is rather large and it is immensely helpful to see vids like this to get an idea on some games that can be interesting or worth a look. i thank Splat for providing this service to his community.

And if you rotate the plots, it may split the larger single house into 2 smaller ones. The add ons are bad ass though....like they will plant carrots to add food to the pantry
I just appreciate how clean the map looks like and how step by step everything is. Not my cup of tea since I am terrible and economy games but the conquest mode could be interesting depending on how fleshed out it is. As to the medieval music...makes me want to bring out Damh the Bard or Omnia.
This game does so many things right that most in the genre don't! I already loved the demo and would play so many sessions if it had a save function. Really looking forward to the eventual release! If it contained none of the teased warfare elements, it would still be worth full price of a AAA title to me. Can't wait (but will)!
I like how water isn't just everywhere for wells that is a really nice touch. The variety and orientation of the building are nice. Definitely more organic though I wish the placed roads meandered a bit more as perfectly straight roads in villages are rare as they grow more organically.
You can change how they're laid out very easily, they don't all have to be straight and cane be as curvy and meandering as you want.

Yeah, I love how the housing is setup. Along with the gardening upgrades if the plot is large enough.

Being a german thinking how americans pronounce for example "Friedrich" vs germans after Splat said that thing at 10mi ish my advice for saying the german R with such hard words would be:
Just say "Fr" (of Friedrich) out loud first and notice how far up in your throat you (assuming average american) produce the "soft R" and while pronouncing the "Fr" out loud essentially hold the R so say Frrrrrrrrrrr and go slowly deeper until your throat starts to make that stocking/stroking Tiger growl kind of sound and that is when you know you hit the right spot for the normal german R. Because without having better words to describe it the right german R sound is just one sound above/ligther than that growling sound starts, even though some dialects etc. go into the growl thingy, but that''s not the majority.
If you start the housing area placement on a wide street the plot will be subdivided in many houses. If you are using a short line to start the plot then you get a single house no matter how long you draw the area.
There is also a Rotate button to rotate the plot and it will subdivide it accordingly.

The map at the end looked like it was aligned with your over world camera position from before opening the map. You probably need to move the over world camera and then open the map to change the map view.
This is one demo I got to try before I saw you cover it. This time at least.
I really like watching the buildings get constructed, but didn't get too much further than winter due to no saving in the demo. Not really a problem because it's stated to be a village building demo. Idle villager job setting is a nice thing when you just wanna sit back and watch it go.

29:30 One thing to note that I figured while trying the same thing with the houses, after you place the 4th marker, you can "rotate" the houses so that the entrance is facing a different road and doing so will divide it into more houses if it faces a longer road. So instead of 2 houses, you probably would've gotten about 6
His trouble started at just after 12:00. He only just slipped up and clicked the curved arrow instead of the hammer he would have figured it out.

Man I was waiting for a long time to finally see a playable Demo and it's looking amazing. It really does.
There are ideas I recognize from some other earlier games and it feels like some nice QoL features are already implemented here.

31:45 There're control instructions above the Menu items at the bottom of the screen. It goes away after a few minutes. You can see them at 3:13 of the video. It's MMB or click the scroll wheel of your mouse to Rotate, scroll to zoom.

15:20 that upgrade was a trap. To start you only get one tool and the game prompts you to use it on a horse upgrade but until you can buy them you need that tool as a supply requirement for a later building. Off the top of my head I cannot remember what but I remember that the build it constructs makes that tool.
12:17 While you decide house position/alignment after you've set up the plot (the rounded arrow to the right of the hammer). I think the original alignment might be based on the order you set up the two first area points/border corners. Which is what seems to stump Splat here (I'm not going to claim that I didn't forget this a few times and got a bit confused).
Or to put it in other words, Splat made long rectangles instead of wide ones.
But he wasn't wrong on houses costing a bit, and not being able to afford more than one (they cost 2 timber each, and he had 3). But that wasn't why he couldn't see more than one house.
While I haven't really had a problem with the houses, but I've noticed that this system can be a bit inflexible when it comes to fields. E.G. when trying to get a field around the corner of a building
15:20 I didn't really get to test the upgrades before the demo was taken down, but apparently the vegetable garden has a noticeable impact on food production (which is good because it costs a tool).
I'm not sure -because I couldn't really see due to the game not showing the correct term (you know, ID_XXX) and that it didn't let me scroll down (beta bug, I'm guessing). But there's a chance that thread spinning etc. are upgrades for higher tier buildings instead of their own buildings - Which makes sense, as that was pretty much how it was done before the industrial revolution.
16:44 It is, but as long as the lot is big enough for the plus sign, you can upgrade.
On my first village, I made the mistake of creating a (too) large market, because I thought that it'd be a combination of trading hub (for traders) and a place for stalls (which I thought would be larger than they were). But the stalls are small, and you don't need that many of them (might change based in the variety of E.G. food you have) and both the trading post and the livestock trading post are their own buildings.
So I, currently, don't really feel the need for a market. Hopefully I just missed something, or it's going to be implemented.

Oh damn, I need to look into this…that would be cool if you could build up your fiefdom into a full blown kingdom through alliances like marrying a strong family, or you can work your way up by constantly coming through in wars…and then somehow make your way to King
