Rex Ryan may have some limitations as a HC, but he’d be a real upgrade for at least 7-8 teams right now. Plus he made the league more interesting and entertaining. He could really help a lot of teams on defense too.

It does suck for the Jets that they prepared the team all off-season around Rodgers. Not only did they lose their QB, but their whole strategy and planning for months was thrown out the window. I suppose they need a new QB anyways because Rodgers was not a long term solution.

There's always a risk going 'all-in' and renting a 40 year old former mvp quarterback. In the off-season, the Jets signed the 'shiny toys' (receivers and running backs) and mostly ignored the offensive line. This being 2 years after taking a quarterback #2 overall. With years and years of high draft picks, it's a shame this team can't get their act together.
What shiny Wr did they get? They lost C. Davis, E. Moore, and Mimms. Lazard is the opposite of shiny. The Wr group is worse than last years
Wasting money on Lazard was definitely a mistake, but it’s not like theres an OL worth grabbing from GB to keep Aaron happy, Baki can only play on grass and costs draft capital.
It risk of bucking mediocrity to go for it all. Sometimes it doesn’t work out. And that would be the case for a ton of teams if the starter they based everything on went down out of nowhere. But as a fan as hurt as I’d be this year I’ll take an office that goes for it over accepting being mediocre forever personally. With GB surprisingly taking Center Josh Meyers in the 2nd Rd and the very next pick KC gets Creed Humphrey now the best Center in the Nfl and basically a Pro Bowl player since Day 1. But rebuilding that a Oline no matter who is the QB imo is a absolute must.

Nope, don't even hope on Rodgers. They got to prepare for next year assuming that A Rod is not walking through that door. And since they put all their chips on him, that most likely means next season is a lost cause as well. If that's the case, they are just going to have to go "scorched Earth" on the team just like the Angels are after betting it all on Ohtani. Tear it all down and start again at ground level.

the problem there are only handful of good coaches - that what makes purdy good is the coach - even brady would not have been what he is now with out belicheck - brady would have failed on any other team - even mahomes would have failed if he did not have the andy ried
No because Purdy's success is due to him having a super team built around him where he is only asked to throw screens and 3-5 yard slants. Wilson, Lance, Fields etc... are asked to carry an entire offense. If Purdy and Wilson swapped places the Niners would still be 3-0 and the Jets would be just as bad

I don't see him display anything that would require a high football IQ, half his passes are behind the line of scrimmage to Deebo and CMC and then they take off break 10 tackles and go for 50+ yards, and the other half are just 1 read passes across the middle. Anytime Purdy has to go through progressions or is asked to make a throw under pressure or deep, it's a horrible near-INT
Btw that isn't a diss on Purdy, I think he's excellent at what he does....but what he does is game management just like Jimmy G did. He isn't asked to do anything special, all he's asked to do is give the ball to CMC/Deebo/Aiyuuk and not turn it over. People conflate that with him being an elite passer, he isn't, he's an elite game manager in a very good situation. That isn't the same as a franchise QB like Lawrence/Burrow/Herbert/Hurts/Mahomes/Allen etc... And Fields/Wilson/Lance were asked to be franchise QBs, so they had a lot more to liveup to than Purdy. Saying Purdy is gonna change the draft process or that he's "better" than Fields/Wilson/Lance is a lot like saying a 2nd grader is better at Math than an advanced physics major because they passed their math test and the physics major failed there's: it's two completely different evaluations and standards.
@lordlubu3029 There are reasons why the niners kept Purdy over Jimmy g and over tray lance. Jimmy was a good game manager when you asked him to do certain throws. He just couldn't make it and he threw a lot more interceptions than purdy. We've yet to see how well pretty can do when he has to make a throw to win the game. As far as Lance, he just couldn't learn the system and made way too many mistakes. Unfortunately, I think he's going to be a bust for any team. Purdy is not a top tier. Quarterback but he does understand football to a higher level than Lance and he's less error prone than Jimmy g. There's a reason why he's starting for the 49ers and the other guys are gone

Any team without a somewhat of a plan b at QB is taking an extreme risk if they expect Superbowl..Injuries happen and worse if you don't have a proper contingency plan on your most premium positions, that's bad on the GM. For the immediate foreseeable future the offense has to design plays for Zach, but truly define their philosophy as a running team - they need to run and can so how can they run it down the opponents throat even if opposing defenses are expecting it? A constant carousel of Hall, Cook, Izzy, and Carter with inventive screens and trick plays? The Patriots were dominant and there were MANY games under Brady where it was screens, short passes, and running until something deep opened up while the defense kept the opponent to 17 or less. It can be done. Leverage Hardman's speed along with the abilities of Conklin and Ruckert. They also need to continue to hone that elite defense. Beat teams into submission with crushing defense and a relentless short game.

He's got a quick release and a strong arm. If we want to even have a chance to make the playoffs, we have to go all-in on Zach. Given a miracle that Wilson cleans up his weaknesses, really soon. Sorry to say it, but this is what it has come down to. If I were GM Douglas and Coach Salah, I'd give Wilson the green light, all of them. Give him more vertical looks. Move him outside the pocket. But don't make him run because I don't think he can withstand the hits. If anything, give him a shot of confidence. I know it's risky. He might throw 1,000 INTS. But, he might not. He actually might be decent. I'm still hoping against a lost season, but forgive me, I didn't choose to be a Jets fan, the Jets chose me. I'm hoping we go out make it competitive and have fun tonight. What do you think?

As a Wisconsinite I definitely feel for Aaron but what the Jets fans don't understand is they will never be a well run organization. It has to be in your blood and history. You can put bandaids on it with hall of famers in their 19th season from a well run organization but after that you're back to the same place you were before that. We knew Aaron was going to get injured this year from his recent past. That is the only reason we let him go. The reason we knew that is because we have been there before.

As a Jets fan, I don’t think there has ever been a more glaring indictment of just how awful the QB evaluation process is by GMs/scouts/coaches than the fact that Zack Wilson was drafted SECOND OVERALL while a guy like Jalen Hurts was drafted 53rd. Hurts balled out everywhere he’s been in multiple schools in the toughest conferences. Yet he falls in the draft to a point where even the “experts“ thought was too high. Meanwhile Zach Wilson is drafted 2nd overall being the exact opposite a Jalen Hurts resume. It’s absolutely maddening that all these scouts/executives/analysts still have a job after that type of stuff.
yes; every year at the draft they go on about how talented these qb's are and some can't hit the broad side of a barn, read a defense or handle a rush. They want tall and athletic with huge arm.s. Problem is those are the ones that end up busts.

He was drafted second overall because he made that one cool throw during workouts. Unbelievable. Zach had only one good year in college. It was a Covid year so no crowds. His team had a cupcake schedule so he never learned to play under pressure and/or from behind. And worse, he was never voted team captain. Joe Douglas should be fired solely for making that pick.

Listening to Rex Ryan is the reason he RARELY beat the Patriots. And, then he went up to Buffalo and stunk that place out too.
My adjustment to having an o-line and a QB that are having a hard time moving the ball would be this... NE stacked the box because they knew Zach couldn't beat them. So, I would have put both Breece Hall and Michael Carter in the backfield. I would line them up on each side of Zach, with 1 TE and I would split both of my Wr's out wide. Doing this would have forced the NE Def to defend the entire field. It would also force their linebackers to stay back and be forced to cover both of our Rb's out of the backfield. Stacking the box wouldn't be such an easy task for any Def. Zach wouldn't need to throw 30 yard passes. 10 to 20 yards would be more like it. Yards after the catch would definitely happen.
Hey, coach Salah, tell your offensive coordinator to put both rb's on the field this week and make things much easier for the Jets offense. All of our Wr's as a whole would be rested and fresh for the entire game if this strategy was implemented. Use both Breece Hall and Dalvin Cook. Breece and Carter..
Use 2 rb's every play. Sometimes, you need to think differently. Try anything to put pressure on the opposing defense.
Certain plays, I would use all 3 rb's. Hall, Cook & Carter. We Have Nothing To Lose!!!

It starts with your offensive line if your offensive line, not moving nobody off the line than you can't run the football. If the offensive line can't pass block, then Zach Wilson going to get pounded that's why the Jets are struggling to move the football.

Boy I still remember the east coast media's hype when Wilson was drafted. All those ESPN highlights of how far he could throw on pro day. How they now finally had a qb. Now an off season of bragging about superbowls and today their dreams are crumbling before our eyes and it's awesome.
