The Lima was never in a Tempo, FYI. The 2.3 HSC that was in the Tempo and briefly in the Taurus, was a pushrod engine derived from chopping 2 cylinders off of a 144 cu inline 6.

I stand corrected and pined you response. i had a temp i figure the engine was the same, Then as you look at it a read further.. Its not the same.. Good eye there charles

I use the HSC flatop hyper eutetic in my 200 six.STD bore.Think they cut 2 cyl. off of a 200.

That was also a good, durable engine as well, I worked in Ford dealerships as a line technician and we always prefered to work on the HSC 2.3 rather than the 1.8 or 1.9 Escort engine. Those were a POS back then

The 2.3L in a 75 Pinto wagon was the first motor I ever blew. Missed third gear... It got rebuilt, and then I drove it on a 3K road trip Odyssey down to Fort Benning and back, then a couple of years after that as my daily driver. The little critter always started when the temperature dropped below freezing despite getting a new 2V carb that never stayed adjusted. The old 300 is another great motor. I had the EFI in an F150. I traded it for a Mustang, but it was a rock-solid motor. My only beef was that it fell flat in the mountains. The info on the Barra was excellent. Great video.

I can vouch for the 300 inline six, my brother had one in his 76 F250 4x4 when he was in a bush camp cutting firewood, that thing fired right up if you even looked at the key, as it did without a block heater in -40° temps, it was actually tagged as an F260 with the overload springs, we hauled a box full of sand with the front wheels almost off the ground with no problem, and absolutely wicked 4x4ing, granny low 4 spd I wish we still had it. the 4x4 magazines put one up against a full on V8 pulling truck and the six kicked it's ass!

I love my 2006 zx4 and am looking into 2.5l swap. I had a 1990 Ford Taurus SHO. The engine was unbelievable but what was a close second was the neutral handling. In spite of being front wheel drive, it would not dive or break loose in hard g’s and in bad weather. It would just start to slide, front and rear together which gave enormous confidence for control. I miss it dearly. 😢

I would just like to say your summisation of the Australian Ford “Barra” engine is spot on, l have had a lot of cars over the decades Holden V8’s & Holden’s when they came with Chevy V8’s when an option & plenty of Aussie Ford Falcons & Fairlanes but l have to say that one of my current cars is one of the last FG Ford Falcons the XR6 version and l love it’s “BARRA” engine and it’s rear wheel drive, l will be hanging on to this one for a long time, l reckon Ford should have used the Turbo Barra in our current Mustangs instead of that little 4 banger at least but would probably have been quicker than the V8 l reckon as good as the V8 is though, most of the Mustangs sold here are V8’s anyway, tens of thousands of them since the demise of Ford Australia’s Falcons, the thing that gets me though is Ford Aus. produces the best ever Aussie Falcon since 1960 with the best power trains then pulls the pin! General Motors pulled the pin here recently too just after Ford but Ford Australia does still exist but not actually making cars anymore they f do global designing apparently if you take the Ford Ranger that global vehicle built in Thailand was prototyped & designed in Australia by Australians so at least we still have our hand in it, cheers.

They could have put a few Barras in truck at the lease, but having that in a Mustang ( would have dust off the v8s ) in the states. Best Ford engine.....the svt focus 4 cyl. It was a zx2 engine that was reworked by cosworth . I had a zx3 that I swapped a svt focus engine and trans into. No turbos , no nitrous. I weighed the car and it was roughly 300-400 lbs lighter than a svt focus( smaller brakes, no abs, no power windows, locks, less sound deadner , no air bag seats) ...I made the intake tube out of a cone filter and a nacta brake cooling tube, other than that it used 100% Ford factory parts for the engine and trans swap. It would eat stock five speed sho's from a dig, I could drive away from gen one srt8's out top end most cars in it's class. Cobalt ss after 120 mph I just pulled away. On the hwy id get the from roll guys too. Dropping from 6th to 3rd that car would go 50-130 faster than 0-60 😎 third gear topped out at 88 mph. 10-1 compression, high red line great lill engine. Mine dynoed at the front wheels 168 hp and 159 ftlbs.....rated at the crank they were 170 hp and 145 lbft🤷🏼‍♂️

Also, the better modern sedan from FoMoCo would be a 2004 Mercury Marauder. 4.6 DOHC all aluminum, they weigh less than 4000 lbs. And they were underrated @310 hp. But we're talking 4s & 6s...the SVO turbo 4...great,but the strongest, most reliable, unkillable...has to be the 300 I-6. Build it for work...torque all day...Build it for power & performance, the inline configuration is VERY efficient passing hp & torque to the wheels. Drain the oil out of it & it'll still run longer than most other engines.

Yeah the SVT contour never get any love... I have a 2000 SVT contour and they make HP numbers look like child’s play when you slap a turbo or super charger on them. My farther in law owns 7 of them and one of them is the legendary SVT contour that hit 213mph at the Portland international raceway! It needs some love to get it back up to what it use to be but we are making progress pretty quickly due to the amount of people who remember the legendary car! The amount of parts and stuff that have been thrown our way to save it is amazing!

take tons of abuse and still go was that 300 6cyl, seen a few of them go through the ringer ran hot and everything and still go
    Had a couple 4.6
they can take some abuse too
