The contrast between the reactions of the Lead Artist and the Lead Programmer to the glitches is absolutely amazing. The art guy is absolutely howling, and the programmer looks like he's watching Goggalor step on the puppy orphanage.
‘News’ Anchor: “Goggalor is proving why he is the one true threat to our society by crushing the dreams of hardworking developers, oh yeah, I guess also puppies too. So report the location of him with exact coordinates so that we can destroy him with lung fish ‘safe’ bombs. Remember to not eat children fully just spit them out at the Tower island!”
Because the Lead Artist didn't spend the last several years slowly programming all the systems that the speedrunner is casually abusing/shattering to break all the carefully-choreographed scripting.
"Look, a regular player's not going to find this - and if a speedrunner finds it, they'll love it." Even as a regular player, I appreciate this sentiment. Thank you.
he's the MVP of this video. People like him and Anna Kipnis have been these legendary programmers at Double Fine...it's fun to see their personality out there!
You can really tell Tim is trying to make Edgar (and the speedrunning community in general) feel validated and appreciated by the questions he asks. That seems wholesome.
He knew exactly what ideas to prompt for though. If this was someone’s first time learning about speedrunning, they would learn a lot, because it’s thanks to him they brought up camera glitches, the execution tricks like skateball and Psy-hopping, routers vs runners, the size of the community, the effort and love that goes into the art of speedrunning, so on and so forth
19:20 "Did we lose Edgar [...] He looks Happy, that's how we'll remember him [...] Now that He's gone what do you all think of Edgar?" I love you Tim Schafer, never change
He's so funny, not just his writing in the games, but in both the speedrun react videos he shows his ability to joke on the fly, honestly he's an inspiration comedy wise. I haven't laughed this hard in a while
Between the tricks and glitches, Kee dying inside a thousand times and Geoff constantly laughing his ass off, this is one of the funniest videos I‘ve watched in weeks.
I love all of your reactions but Kee's are my favorite. Everytime Edgar breaks or skips something Kee just shuts down. The reaction to the out of bounds level switch is the best.
Kee's reactions are the wildest, I laughed so hard everytime Edgar's speedrun used a game breaking tactic cause Kee's face just crumbled. Give the mans some water and comfort please lol Anyway, not to be shady, but I liked this video more than the IGN speedrun reactions series, the fact we see the faces of people involved, that the speedrunner is there to explain everything, the name tags on the screens so we know who is who and the fact it's a charity fundraiser. Really fun and cool !
It took me until Helmut to realize that whoever put this video or call together changes the backgrounds for each level they are in and its a nice touch.
This makes me love Double Fine even more. It's just great to see the attitude of "if it won't be an issue for normal play, let speedrunners have fun with the bug!" especially since most studios try to patch out every bug. Or at least the fun ones.
Oh my gosh, I’m so glad to see you guys doing another one of these! I loved the video you guys had for the first game - really excited to see how you guys reacts to this one!
I love developers that only focus on fixing the glitches that will ruin an average player's playthrough of the game. I will never understand why developers will go out of their way to patch out glitches in single player games that require ridiculously precise setups to achieve.
I did not expect them to watch speedrun of their game. On top of that, upload it on their own channel! Game is magical and so your reactions! Speedrunning is wack in most games and in first Psychonauts game its even more broken with levitation ball.
imagine a kid stops one of your agents from taking over the world in about the day and as soon as you take him back to your hq he fixes years of trauma and stops a dictator in the making in under an hour. i would feel like im going insane
14:24 I suppose that also explains why Raz wouldn't shut up dropping hints on what to do while I was trying to hear the dialogue for each combination of Hollis's ideas?

You guys were robbed at the award show. I think everyone agrees that your game is top tier. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making such an amazing game for the fans.
This was great. Loved seeing the devs' reactions vary from horrified to reluctant acceptance to maniacal laughter (Geoff, haha). Sounds like they should have a few speedrunners on their QA team for the next game!
Getting the Lucktopus to fire her own bomb into her tentacle is why I love speedrunners, just the genius methods they come up with. Also this game should've won goty, and or best art direction.
I love seeing Doublefine take interest in speedruns. It really looks like they care about how players are enjoying their games, including int he unintentional ways. Absolutely, this game was my favorite of this year, and the series definitely has a place in my heart as an all time favorite from the wonderful narrative and creative story telling you guys did. Speedruns are like watching someone just show you another way to enjoy your favorite game too and I'm there for it.
22:55 To answer Tim's question, that ends up being settled by the speedrunning category (ex. any%, 100%). If a discovery makes the speedrunning too trivial, or even just not fun to do, the community can decide to split up the category into one that allows that trick and one that doesn't. Then typically, most of the attention will wind up on the category that doesn't use the trick, because it ends up being the more competitive category - while the category that does use the trick still exists mostly for historical reasons.
i really love how much all the devs enjoy the speedrun of the game, and are fascinated by how the tricks can happen and what bugs are being used, it's really great to see studios embrace the jank of a good speedrun
BTW, I'd love to see you guys react to a Psychonauts 1 speedrun again. Since the last one you watched, the run's gotten much faster and the game's gotten even more broken!
Psychonauts is a God tier game. I would so pay for dlc. I hope if there is a next game that it would focus on that mystic feel, spooky vibe, and focus on the kids struggles.
These are the kind of devs i wish every game had :) appreciating the people who spend hours and hours on the game they made, I'm so happy they made another one of these :)
I remember watching this live! It was so crazy to watch how quickly he finishes each brain like it's nothing. Plus kee always had the best reactions lol.
Finally, I've been waiting for this, partially for the reactions and development insight but especially to see Kee go through an emotional journey throughout the run
I noticed that the question about do certain skips not get used in games because they just skip so much it doesn't count anymore was glossed over, so I thought I'd mention an answer. It's a definite yes. For example, for legend of Zelda majoras mask, you can input corrupted code using inputs and positioning in the game which allows you to automatically play the end credits, completing the game in about 5 minutes without leaving the starting area. This is technically the any% category, but there are categories made the exclude the glitch, such as no major glitches and no *insert specific name of glitch here*. Sonic the hedgehog for the Xbox360 also has a category like this called no msg which disallows a major glitch that skips around half the game.
this was wonderfully delightful to watch, made me so happy lol. edgar is great, and i want to be as funny as tim someday. also need kee to know his expressions alone made so much of the joy watching this LMAO. and tips too!! thats awesome, i want to try these myself soooo bad after seeing them in this stream
i really loved this, I wish more devs interacted with Speedrunners, besides being pretty fun it's a great learning experience for everyone involved as well also I love the small detail that the background is matching where in the Speedrun we are, very nice
I've watched plenty of speed runs before, but I have never seen one where senior staff of the game watch and react to it in real time. Absolutely loved the format of this, and it was great to share in the shock and awe of what Edgar was able to do! Great video.
Watching Kee during this was sooo great! Thank you all for the amazing effort in producing Psychonauts 2, thank you for the Speedrun, Edgar! Great cast! :D
You could just make a supercut of Kee's reactions, I felt so bad for them watching this haha Edit: as someone who sang Snake Eater halfway up the ladder I'm sad to hear the "What a Thrill" line was cut
Good job guys! One of the few late sequels that felt both nostalgic and a monumental step forward in the genre at the same time. Great game all around!
How I assume the pitch for this video went: Edgar: "That's a nice game you have." DoubleFine: "Thanks! It took us over a decade to make." Edgar: "Want to see me break it over my knee?"
This is super cool to see gamers and devs come together for a fun show like this! Very much appreciated! I’d be freaking out if I ever met my game dev heroes live this way :D Good job runner & Tim and co.! Psychonauts 2 is a great game
I’m really curious about a low% run of the game. I know it’s possible to get through Loboto without collecting any figments, but it’s not for Hollis, I don’t think. I wonder how little can be accomplished?
I wrote this before my playthrough of Psychonauts 1 before I played Psychoanuts 2. I guess it's more-so for your Community Manager? I'm not sure where it should go... Things Psychonauts will teach you: Therapy does not work unless the person both needs & wants it to work. Therapy does not 'fix' people. It helps teach you about why you act or feel a certain way. It can help, but there is no Endgame. It's 'Everyday matters, you have to keep doing it Everyday. That's the hard part.' If you do not allow yourself to feel emotions, pain, love & loss then you will become numb. Repression festers. Pain is temporary & then bittersweet. There is no Love without Loss. Pain is an excellent teacher. Loss means you Loved something intensely. Having Super-powerful Psychic Abilities wouldn't 'fix' your problems. It might even (likely) add a ton. Coach Oleander: Things are not always what they seem. Expect the unexpected. You're tougher then you look. Sasha Nein: Trauma can be debilitating & usually does not ever leave you, but it can become your most powerful motivators in Life. Channel it, become a Superhero. Find True Love, sometimes standing next to you already. Mia: Life is built of challenges. You can fight the current or you can flow with it. Back & forth. If you can do 1 thing you can do 1,000 things. If something doesn't work, practice. Maybe try a new approach. Life is easier with friends, & a Best Friend. Lungfish/Linda: Godzilla is awesome. Enemies today can be friends tomorrow. Show Empathy, when you can. Boyd: The Milkman Conspiracy is one of the best levels in Game Design. The Milkman's Milk is Delicious. Fortified with what the world needs. What the world Deserves. (Not everything is a conspiracy, but most things are just convoluted due to life being that way. Remember to Laugh & drink your Milk.) Gloria's Theater: Emotions can be seen from different angles. Even the same memories, can be seen from either a Happy-shade or Negative-shade. You need to gain control of them, or they will run wild & you won't be able to process anything sensual. Waterloo: You can't give up. Ever. Even if it takes +2 hours to figure out something. You only Lose when you Give Up before the Game is Over. Games don't matter, but they are practice for the Real World. If the Game isn't helping or motivating you to Embrace Life then STOP. Do something Productive until you are ready to Play again. If you never Learn to Lose then you'll Never Win. Black Velvet: Your life is going to come with scars & bad memories. Don't get hung up on them. They're high & low-water marks of your life. What's important is what you do with those memories & lessons. Don't forget, but remember that every day is a new beginning to start again, but better this time. As long as you keep moving forward you will become stronger & wiser. Art = Raw Natural Talent + Hard-life Experiences. You need to figure out what makes you happy & try to build a life around it. Your interests may change, but we learn early on what make yourself happy, day-to-day. Meat Circus: Empathethise when you can. Most trauma is caused by either Genetic, Environmental or Parental factors. Most people, 99.999% are normal people having bad days. Bad weeks. Bad months & sometimes years. You can't 'fix' anyone, but you can try to help them, if you want. & you SHOULD want to help people. Trauma can be many things, but anyone can be a Hero.
I've watched the video you did with Psychonauts and the speedrunner. And I loved the comment "once you don't have to do it, the platofrming's amazing". The speedrunner talked about how sad it is that the flying glitch is so effective cause the platforming is so fun. So I would only fix the flying object glitch. Just to see how speedrunners would actually platform and break the game more thoroughly rather than skipping everything.
Do you think it would be possible for you guys to add some kind of "New Game+" mode, or just a way to refight bosses/revisit some unrevisitable areas (like the egg parkour in Nick's mind, the casino, Ford's first mind at the camp's fire place, etc.)?
7:52 I’m glad they did not remove this lol.. hopefully they don’t because this glitch is very interesting and it’s really cool to see what’s behind the invisible walls in the backround!
@@nadrewod999 I like to think he focused too much on nerfing/making sure you couldn’t fly with levitation, creating the telekinesis monster we got.
Double Fine: * Goes out of their way to not program a Levitation flying bug in their sequel *
Telekinesis: Now this looks like a job for me
Another reason why Telekinesis is a straight upgrade from the last game.
*levitation + slam upgrade* oh boy, here we go again
@@bigbadgammagnomeBy the time you can do that it's not even worth having it
"Look, a regular player's not going to find this - and if a speedrunner finds it, they'll love it."
Even as a regular player, I appreciate this sentiment. Thank you.
I love the moment he started to prop fly there was massive anguish as they specifically nerfed leviation to avoid this.
Kee has so many great reactions just watching his worst nightmares unfold
he's the MVP of this video. People like him and Anna Kipnis have been these legendary programmers at Double Fine...it's fun to see their personality out there!
the best moments are when edgar breaks the game and it's immediately followed up with tim going "WE FIXED THAT BUG!"
You can really tell Tim is trying to make Edgar (and the speedrunning community in general) feel validated and appreciated by the questions he asks. That seems wholesome.
He gives the wholesome dad who wants to learn but has 0 idea where to start so he throws out buzzwords vibe

Between the tricks and glitches, Kee dying inside a thousand times and Geoff constantly laughing his ass off, this is one of the funniest videos I‘ve watched in weeks.
Kee consistently looks like he's in pain every time a major skip is performed and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I love all of your reactions but Kee's are my favorite. Everytime Edgar breaks or skips something Kee just shuts down. The reaction to the out of bounds level switch is the best.

Tim: (Jokingly) “Don’t worry, that part of the game wasn’t worked on too much.”
Kee: _“AHHG!”_

Love this game, such a disappointment from The Game Awards
Oh my gosh, I’m so glad to see you guys doing another one of these! I loved the video you guys had for the first game - really excited to see how you guys reacts to this one!
Finally, the long-awaited sequel arrives! No, I don't mean Psychonauts 2, I'm talking about Devs Play Psychonauts: The SMK Speedrun 2!
I love developers that only focus on fixing the glitches that will ruin an average player's playthrough of the game. I will never understand why developers will go out of their way to patch out glitches in single player games that require ridiculously precise setups to achieve.
54:04 I found this very insightful and it makes me feel like more developers should watch speed runs of their games.
I just hope that any programmers watching have some alcohol onhand so that they don't have to suffer as much as Kee did here...
Geoff having the time of his life while Kee is dying inside is the perfect symmetry this speedrun needed!
I did not expect them to watch speedrun of their game. On top of that, upload it on their own channel!
Game is magical and so your reactions! Speedrunning is wack in most games and in first Psychonauts game its even more broken with levitation ball.
That run of level destruction at 44:55 was sublime. Kee losing his mind while Geoff laughs is great.

Just finished the vid and there's so many moments I'd wanna come back and revisit, these timestamps rule, thank you for this
Watching their reaction to Strike Alley's time was joyous. Devs witnessing speedruns of their game, especially for the first time, is just perfect.
I feel like over the course of this video Tim goes from hanging out to "I'm gonna get World Record Any% in my own game"
I like how they’re learning more about what they programmed mechanic wise and didn’t realize with their own game.
So fun to watch the devs see their game torn apart
45:31 you can just see the moment kee gives up haha
This was real fun to watch! Really loved the devs reactions, and how much you guys wanted to get the word out for the whole speedrun community!
I also appreciate the bonus part at the end where Edgar explains all the moves! ("1.3 Seconds!!!" xD)
50:14 only the real Psychonauts fans will recognize Tim's groan there as a reference Raz's death rattle in the first game.
Amazing game, great team … wish more dev teams cared like this… this game oozes love and care.
You guys were robbed at the award show. I think everyone agrees that your game is top tier. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making such an amazing game for the fans.
The best thing you can ever hear from a dev as a speed runner is the joyous shouts of "I thought we fixed that" from the devs watching your run
This was great. Loved seeing the devs' reactions vary from horrified to reluctant acceptance to maniacal laughter (Geoff, haha). Sounds like they should have a few speedrunners on their QA team for the next game!
Finished the game yesterday. One of the best games I’ve played in the last decade.
Getting the Lucktopus to fire her own bomb into her tentacle is why I love speedrunners, just the genius methods they come up with.

Something I only just got now: All of Hollis's old co-workers are named after the various symbols on slot machines. Cherry, Bell, Barr, (Jack)Potts
I love seeing Doublefine take interest in speedruns. It really looks like they care about how players are enjoying their games, including int he unintentional ways. I hope they do add in Raz saying "What a thrill..." for a future patch on that ladder.
i really love how much all the devs enjoy the speedrun of the game, and are fascinated by how the tricks can happen and what bugs are being used, it's really great to see studios embrace the jank of a good speedrun
Yeeees, I was hoping they'd do this again for Psychonauts 2
These are the kind of devs i wish every game had :) appreciating the people who spend hours and hours on the game they made, I'm so happy they made another one of these :)
I remember watching this live! It was so crazy to watch how quickly he finishes each brain like it's nothing. Plus kee always had the best reactions lol.
Your game meant so much to me and this whole vibe is so wholesome. Thank you for making incredible games!
This was so fun! So happy you uploaded it here because I missed it live!
After seeing the documentary on the making of this game, I totally feel Kee's pain at seeing things breaking xD
this was wonderfully delightful to watch, made me so happy lol. edgar is great, and i want to be as funny as tim someday. also need kee to know his expressions alone made so much of the joy watching this LMAO. and tips too!! thats awesome, i want to try these myself soooo bad after seeing them in this stream
i really loved this, I wish more devs interacted with Speedrunners, besides being pretty fun it's a great learning experience for everyone involved as well
also I love the small detail that the background is matching where in the Speedrun we are, very nice
Did I just hear this speed run time right?! Omg what a goat !
I've watched plenty of speed runs before, but I have never seen one where senior staff of the game watch and react to it in real time. Absolutely loved the format of this, and it was great to share in the shock and awe of what Edgar was able to do! Great video.
Use mushrooms to get high 😂 Made me laughing hysterically
It’s like the joke about Dr. Touch and Audie’O getting high 😂
Watching Kee during this was sooo great! Thank you all for the amazing effort in producing Psychonauts 2, thank you for the Speedrun, Edgar! Great cast! :D
Yooo, it's cool seeing everybody react to a speedrun of Psychonauts 2!!!
This was a joy to watch! I enjoyed playing this game so much and love that you guys came together to watch and react to a speedrun.
Thanks for the shoutout at the end Bytez! Glad to see the devs love the run as much as we do!
47:36 “You used mushrooms to get high”
🤣
You could just make a supercut of Kee's reactions, I felt so bad for them watching this haha
Edit: as someone who sang Snake Eater halfway up the ladder I'm sad to hear the "What a Thrill" line was cut
Love when devs watch and react to speed runs of their games. Thanks so much for this :)
This is awesome. I love that you have the actual speedrunner with you to explain things.
RIP Edgar's internet speed
I'm just thinking of the in universe reactions characters are having watching Raz abuse the hell out of telekinesis.
This game deserves way more recognition than what it gets. While crap like Cyberpunk is winning awards for doing nothing but being underwhelming shit.
Loving Kee's reactions I can only imagine how he was feeling 🤣🤣
Good job guys! One of the few late sequels that felt both nostalgic and a monumental step forward in the genre at the same time.
Great game all around!
Coming from having just finished the 30+ episode docu. on the game's gestation, really makes this video ten times the fun 🎉.
23:05 kee‘s realization to the horror thats about to unfold is absolutely priceless
watching this after watching the pyschodyssey really gives a new depth to kee and geoffs quite reactions.
How I assume the pitch for this video went:
Edgar: "That's a nice game you have."
DoubleFine: "Thanks! It took us over a decade to make."
Edgar: "Want to see me break it over my knee?"
I’ve watched the full 32 episode doc, I know the troubles
Tim seems so genuinely interested I love this
This is super cool to see gamers and devs come together for a fun show like this!
It's nice to see the team interacting with the community like this. I think Harper did a great job!
this is fun to watch after watching the documentary
This was an absolute delight, hearing and seeing all that range of reactions to the skips and tricks. Wonderful game!
It is really awesome to see this, and Bytez did an absolutely amazing job!
The prop flying glitch reminds me of the bucket glitch from skyrim
Raz really said "they gonna rumble"
The long awaited sequel
I wrote this before my playthrough of Psychonauts 1 before I played Psychoanuts 2. I guess it's more-so for your Community Manager? I'm not sure where it should go...
Things Psychonauts will teach you:
Therapy does not work unless the person both needs & wants it to work.
Therapy does not 'fix' people. It helps teach you about why you act or feel a certain way. It can help, but there is no Endgame. It's 'Everyday matters, you have to keep doing it Everyday. That's the hard part.'
If you do not allow yourself to feel emotions, pain, love & loss then you will become numb.
Remember to Laugh & drink your Milk.)
Gloria's Theater: Emotions can be seen from different angles.
Do you think it would be possible for you guys to add some kind of "New Game+" mode, or just a way to refight bosses/revisit some unrevisitable areas (like the egg parkour in Nick's mind, the casino, Ford's first mind at the camp's fire place, etc.)?
yay this is awesome! I love the video of the first psychonauts speedrun so it's great to see a sequel vid especially so soon!
Damn, so great to see this! I love it! Thank you, DoubleFine, mad respect, Edgar!
Kee Chi’s reaction is priceless 😂
This was an enjoyable watch. I had to constantly remind myself that, "Wow, he already that far this quick?!!"
7:52 I’m glad they did not remove this lol.. hopefully they don’t because this glitch is very interesting and it’s really cool to see what’s behind the invisible walls in the backround!
I love this video and the previous one. Wish more devs would put out videos like this.
They only seemed disappointed when the wedding vow was skipped. Which is an appropriate response.
