The Chinese should definitely avoid any beach landings, due to that 90% of beach rescues in Australia are Chinese tourists,
most are fully dressed and always exactly in the area's clearly marked as danger /no swimming zones.

Even this discussion highlights the dangers of a multi polar world. Before world war ii it was a multi polar world and there were many wars. Only under the US leadership that we are safe to conduct business without worrying about a country like China trying to take over another country. US is not like China, has no interest in occupying a country - except if the country is perceived to be a danger to the international order(sometimes this perception may have gone wrong such as Iraq but the intention was not to occupy) Any more power to China is not good for the world.

As mentioned in an earlier comment, left and right are equally guilty on the support of the detention camps in Nauru, Manus Island and Christmas Island; in fact Labor introduced some of it. However, the far right are a lot noisier in their support. The "left" equivalent radio voices were a lot less stridently supportive.
Anyway, feel free to put people in boxes all you want. You wouldn't want to think that other people have actual opinions formed from actual thought about actual facts. That might suggest that you have to consider their opinions.
(Fortunately, the overseas detention camps are mostly shut down now. Mostly. Doesn't make their past existence less of a stain on the country.)

The only problem with your analysis (and it's a big one) is the vastness of the landscape and the terrain that would need to be conquered. Your map shows China capturing Cape York Peninsula. There's nothing there but jungled rainforest. Most of Australia is simply uninhabitable. China could take Christmas and the Cocos Islands but what could they launch attacks at from those islands? There is nothing there on the west coast except a few small towns. They'd be left in mostly waterless desert and could be easily picked off over time in hit and run sorties that would leave the Chinese devastated and Australians largely unharmed. On the northeast coast, large ships and landing craft would have difficulty getting close to the shore because of the Great Barrier Reef, which is 2000kms long. Your assertion that no more than 10% of Australians would join up to defend their country is also highly dubious. Australians are very patriotic and a direct assault on the homeland would see the majority of Australians join the direct war effort. Aside from 3 minor bombing and torpedo attacks by Japan during WWII, Australia's mainland has never been attacked. A direct attack would rouse the national spirit. Distance, terrain and the pure logistical nightmare would make a successful invasion of Australia by the Chinese very unlikely. The sheer size of the country and the lack of meaningful targets would make life very difficult for a Chinese invasion force. You really ought to research your scenarios a little more.

So many comments about how this wouldn't happen. The whole point to this channel is to compare different nations directly based on their own assets on paper. They are not suppose to be reflective of real life scenarios, only the numbers and possible usage of said assets.

    • @jamesw17
      @jamesw17 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

This is true. I'm Australian and to me, it is obvious that if China - for some bizarre reason - declared total war on Australia, and nukes and allied intervention was off the table, China would eventually prevail. It is interesting to see how this might happen, what kinds of sacrifices both countries would be looking at and what kind of time frame would be involved. Hence the value of this match up.
Of course nukes and allied interventions will never be off the table, and it would be never be politically feasible for the Chinese government to sustain the kinds of losses that would be required to conquer Australia. So it isn't going to happen. Duh. That was never the point.

    • @miroslavstefanov9196
      @miroslavstefanov9196 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

U never know what would happen because a lot of the weapons aren't tested in combat so they may turn to be successful or failure. Even the F35 isn't actually being tested against newest weapons and radars. And right now Israeli flying over Syria is helping Russia to observe those "stealth" jets flying there and they may be learning ways to counter them.
But I bet that no one wants another major conflict, that's one thing I know for sure.

Yeah, but when the topic like this lacks common sense, the discussion are just filled with hatred and ignorance. I don't mind a hypothetical standoff between a Chinese fleet and an Australian fleet. At least people will look at each country's naval assets and see what are the possible scenarios. Otherwise, it's just a nonsense. On paper, Australia alone can never win a total war against China even by conventional means. Also on paper, China can never truly conquer Australia by conventional means. I like the channel, but this episode is just bizarre. It's like asking if Chuck Norris can KO Dwayne Johnson if one decided to break in into another's house.

    1. For any nation (ie China) to invade Australia, the planning, and the logistics prior to departure would be incredible (you couldn’t miss it).
    2. The logistics during the invasion, you couldn’t keep it up.
    3. The terrain and animals that they would have to contend with is incredible (all the animals in Australia are out to kill you).
    4. Probably the most important and scary thing that they would have to confront would be the Australian Bogan.
You just don’t piss off the Aussie Bogan.

I believe the Australian Government and Emu's would set aside their past history and unite against the invading Chinese forces. Perhaps an agreement is reached the Emu's will receive a large track of land in the interior of the country to self govern after the war.
The Emu's can act as a Quick Reaction Force while also patrolling the less hospitable parts of Australia thereby freeing up more Australian Defence Force(ADF) personal to protect urban areas. If China tries an airdrop of paratroopers the emu's can close in with their 30 mph(48.28kmh) speed and then use their knife like talons to try pick some of the paratroopers before they can group up and organize. The emu's would be primarily focused on harassing the troopers rather than outright killing them, using their natural speed and local knowledge of the terrain to perform quick hit and run ambushes. Upon seeing giant 6' birds slicing up their fellow soldiers, the Chinese will most likely began to panic and began shooting their weapons wildly. At this point the emu's should retreat and circle the troopers trying to get them to waste more ammo and supplies which will be will be hard for the troops to replace. Emu's can also swim, giving them more tactical flexibility and greater chance of surprise. Eventually the paratroopers will be burdened with more and more wounded thereby slowing down their advance to their objectives. At a certain point with supplies running low and the percentage of combat effective troops dropping to dangerous levels, they will be forced to hunker down and wait for resupply and reinforcements. At this point the ADF can send a task force to destroy/capture them. This is but one scenario where an Australian-Emu Alliance would be beneficial to both sides.

This scenario seems to hinge on some questionable tactics, firstly any invasion force would be subject to long range stand off air attack long before it got near to Australia as well as submarine attack, I also highly doubt the Australian Navy would try to directly confront the PLAN and would either be used to escort supply ships or harass Chinese supply ships which in this scenario is their Achilles heel.
I also doubt the Australian Army would even try to spread itself thin trying to cover the entire coast or even try and oppose a landing, while it's conventional wisdom to try and stop the enemy on the beach because that's when it's most vulnerable the fact the Chinese could pick anywhere renders that a moot point so the the army would most likely deploy in mass in places they don't want the Chinese to invade by making those places too heavily defended to touch.
The ideal Australian tactic would be to convince the Chinese to invade the north by leaving it relatively undefended; while that would give them a foothold it would be a disadvantageous one, the north doesn't have a lot of infrastructure such as good roads and there's really only one good highway from north to south and the Chinese would have to use a significant part of it's military to secure it, the ADF would most likely use asymmetrical warfare for the most part with hit and run tactics as well as scorch and burn to deny any local supply, by focusing on Chinese logistics rather than on the main force the ADF could render any major landing force quickly combat ineffective, and the larger the force the faster it'll chew through supplies like fuel which it will use a lot of just to travel the distances involved.
With a fully mobilized population we could bog down a significantly larger force and quite frankly time isn't on China's side in an invasion because the longer it took to take Australia the higher the casualties it would take and the more prepared and entrenched the key objectives would become.

    Other factors to consider:
    01. Australian military has far more combat experience and quality of training. In addition, they train with the US which has even more combat experience and quality of training.
    - PRC hasn't engaged in significant combat operations since the debacle in Vietnam back in '79. Even the occasional incursions into India have been small and insubstantial.
    - High possibility in theater PLAAF will cease to exist rather quickly.
    02. The PRC has a large potential Fifth Column in AU. Many ChiComs have immigrated to AU and hold positions of power in Government & Universities.
    - AU has disarmed it's citizenry. Fewer recruits will have firearms experience thus increasing training time. No opportunity for large militia/partisans to counter fifth column/occupation forces.
    03. AUs weapons/equipment based in US/EU designs. PRC makes copies of Russian equipment.
    04. PRC is the invader morale will not hold as long as the democratic defenders.
    05. An invasion of this magnitude leaves Western China vulnerable to rebellion.
-Thanks to the One Child Rule, PLA will not have as many potential troops often believed.
-Additionally, a population with so few heirs will be less tolerant of high casualties. On the other hand, AU has a higher percentage of potential troops. Additional troops could come from waves of immigrants.
While potentially substantial, these factors are "squishy" so BB wisely excluded them from this hypothetical.

You also forgot that much of the possible landing areas are dangerous beaches (reef's and strong tides) or are just in the middle of nowhere or go straight onto a desert. The logistics requirements for food and water alone would quickly stretch supply lines. Not to mention it is very harsh terrain which the ADF train in and the Chinese do not.
Not to mention that Australia could probably reactivate some currently defunct and mothballed manufacturing capability which can be used to produce new military hardware.

Entertaining. Two things were not addressed. 1. Those six Collins class subs we have would carve the Chinese fleet a new one in waters south and east of Indonesia. Heck just two of them passing through Indonesia waters for a preemptive strike North of the Sprately Islands would do enormous damage: 22 torps each, 1 for each major Chinese warship or sub. Remember that a Collins sub severely handled a US fleet near Hawaii over a decade ago in a War Game. The chinese ASW and their noisy subs are a joke. 2. Chinese Land forces would lack choppers and our tank forces would wreck them as we would still have local air support with remaining fighters. About the only thing accurate would be the loss of surface ships, but they would exact a heavy toll from the invaders.

This analysis largely ignores the internal geography of Australia and the strategically important targets. Populated zones are largely limited to the East coast and the south-west around Perth and Albany; most of the rest is semi-arid with scattered towns. If China tried an invasion via the northwest (Christmas/Cocos islands) they couldn't get to anywhere important.
The better route is probably just to take Papua first and build out from there; then establish a base on Cape York and work their way down the coast - but Cape York is rainforest; none of the top end is particularly amenable to mass troop movements.
But with Papua taken, China could move troops en masse to Papua then take the landing craft via a much shorter route between Papua and Cape York, then work their way down the East Coast taking control of the major population centres.
It's also worth remembering that the US is not Australia's only ally. Even if the US ignored its obligations under ANZUS, New Zealand would still assist, and it's quite likely that a couple of the other Commonwealth nations would lend a hand. Australia's navy is not large, but Britain's is quite respectable and has strong historical ties to Australia. Indonesia would likely also assist - while that alliance is VERY loose, if China took Australia then Indonesia would quite rightly see themselves as a next probable target.
Fundamentally, China has the numbers, but Australia has the geography to defeat those numbers, even if we had no troops at all. There are some parallels with Russia - the terrain would defeat any invaders before a shot was fired, unless the invaders went straight for the fertile Eastern coast and ignored the rest of the country.

The indian navy is 3 times smaller then china and far from the east coast of Australia. the Australian navy is about equal to 35% of indian navy power so even India plus Austraia you have a navy equal to 40% of china - still no where near enough. that 40% is today by 2030 that will become just 24% of chinese navy power.... china is building 10 plus navy ships every year completed , Australia is building NONE right now , numbers will increase by 2 by 2030 what china does in 4 months. be realistic and im not on china side one bit.

One thing I never like about Binkov's video is it's always 100% of one nations force vs the other ... There is no way China could send even close to 100% of it's forces against Australia, whilst Australia could use 100% of it's own forces in Defence.
China has far too many political issues at home, as well as neighbours it needs to watch closely, to spare even close to that amount of manpower to invade Australia.
I also don't see why you'd think Australia would try defend the coast. Landing in the middle of nowhere, where there is minimal to no infrastructure, would be a slow and dangerous way to invade. Their supply lines would be massive, and vulnerable to ambush and IED style attacks. I don't see how China could overcome the tyranny of distance in the long term.
With each city taken, China would also need to leave substantial garrisons to maintain their control... which would restrict available forces to move out in search of the ADF, which would be fighting guerrilla style warfare, not fixed positions.

This task, with Australian Assets at this stage being at full capacity, would be relatively easy and with plenty of time and opportunity before the carrier reached the theatre. That's why historically the Australian army has trained in and fought delaying actions, ambushes and fighting withdrawals. As an American, I will now share some facts about Australia that Australians are too shy to admit.
    .
Australia doesn't have as many traffic problems as America because everyone rides kangaroos. They crawl up in those little pouches with their heads sticking out, and the kangaroo hops them where they need to go. Instead of car horns, they just go "OY!" if someone's in their way. Everyone says "G'day" instead of hello. They have pet wallabys instead of cats like normal peop -- I mean -- like Americans. They also banned guns because everyone can just carry a boomerang so its easier.
    .
Why doesn't America just invade Australia?
    .
Because no one wants to invade a country with 8 foot spiders that are poisonous enough to kill a tank. You ever see an M-1 Abrams roll over on it's back and die to death in absolute agony? That's how poisonous everything in Australia is. Hell they probably got wallabys that are poisonous enough to make an aircraft carrier sick for weeks.
    .
Australians don't get poisoned because they eat this thing called "Vegemite". It grants them immunity from poison so they can walk around the desert "Outback" that is Australia all day poking things with sticks and saying "This guy is cranky today".
    .
I mean even if we did invade what's the point? Every single Australian would walk up to an American and say "you call that a knuife?" (not "knife" but pronounced KNUIFE cuz that's what they call it in Australia)... "That's not a knuife" (they pull out a 7 foot sword) "THIS! Is a knuife!!!" And Americans would have to put up with that all day. Also, crocodiles.
    .
Finally it even says in Australia's national anthem, "where women glow and men plunder". Their women can emit radiation, and their men are all born as pirates at birth. "Can't you hear can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take, cover". It's a warning to Australia's enemies. So basically it's just too difficult and not worth the time to go to war with Australia so everyone just leaves them alone.

No Outside Allies no problem, the fact you seem to overlook is the Australian Head Of State is Queen Elizabeth II, she is the
Monarch of Australia, The Queen of Australia, The Queen of England, Australia is Crown Land.
China has technically declared war on the Commonwealth Realms. (16 individual countries)
Not to mention since this video, The Tindal Airbase in the Northern Territory. has upgraded and is the most potent military
base south of Guam, also now have a stockpile of LRASM'S (AGM158), with crazy Artificial intelligence software, these anti ship
missiles will individually or in pack form actively stalk and hunt then destroy targets undetected, if by chance they are detected they are designed with counter-countermeasures to evade hostile active defense systems. Super Hornets and F35's can launch them from up to 500km away. With geography against the Chinese very few ships will get within 1000 miles of Australia.
Lastly Project ECHELON ( The Five Eyes ). The dragnet surveillance program made famous by Edward Snowden.
Pine Gap is in the Northern Territory, Australia and is the biggest of ECHELON signals intelligence facilities in the world, from this facility you can search for target, monitor, intercept, hack and record and store any data of any individual from private citizen to leader of a country throughout Asia, middle east. The Pine Gap Facility and land is officially classified part US Soil, The NSA, CIA and Special branch DOD have built their agencies on the back of ECHELON and now control it, including Pine Gap. Pine Gap would have to be China's absolute most important target on earth, and would have been for many years if China made an advance towards Australia, I'm guessing that the US government will unleash the US war machine on China and not even allow a Chinese fisherman within 10000 miles of Australia, due to the importance of Pine Gap,. .

Binkov has missed on this one. At one point the video portrayed a Chinese landing in Cape York. The area is entirely impassable for 6 months a year with limited access at other times. A large force that somehow landed there would be stuck on the beaches and easily defeated.
The Australian government regularly assesses threats to Australia. No nation other than the United States currently has the capacity to invade Australia. China *may be* a threat after 2030 but even that is fairly optimistic.
To understand why Australia is so hard to invade, learn about supply lines and zones of control and how they relate to geography, particularly oceans and deserts. The ADF is set up to prevent landing and to isolate any troops that somehow manage to land on the mainland. Chinse troops landing in the desert will likely die of dehydration. Don't believe me? Research how Israel defeated two Egyptian armies in the Sinai in 1973. It was all over control of oil and water.
China can't even invade Taiwan currently. The PLA has said they will have this capacity no earlier than 2020.
