Tell your girlfriend congrats! And congrats on being a sub, I hope you are finding it super fun. (And those pants are giving early 2000's energy, lol. But I thought it was the 90s that are back in style now.) I thought Lies and Weddings was such a good book, but I'm glad I read the physical book instead of the audiobook. If you can read it on your Kindle, you'll get to see the invitations and stuff, which seems like a better format than having someone read an invitation to you. A poorly done audiobook is so disappointing. And narration that doesn't work for you is also super annoying. (I struggled through a book that I thought was annoying because the author is very obviously British and she spoke about being British a lot, but the narrator is American. So having someone be all British in content but sound American was very off-putting. The narrator wasn't bad, but someone making production decisions could have done better.) Anyway, in the book, I just loved the part at the end where the mom had to change her tune. I'm not sure I agree that all the characters are black and white. Like the billionaire's son... he seems like such an A-hole, but then you realize how messed up his dad made him and I kinda felt sorry for him even though he was still an A-hole. Trying to be vague for the sake of spoilers. I think Kevin Kwan has some characters that are "goody-two-shoes", some that are straight up mean, and then others that are too complicated to put in a neat box. It's what makes the books fun for me, because I'm sometimes surprised because one character I think I've figured out as being, "oh, they fit this character stereotype" and then it turns out they're one of the complicated people, oops.
You’re soo right about the billionaires sons character being not starkly black/white !!! Very true, I sincerely love his writing and was laughing out loud some parts LOL so I’m looking forward to reading the whole Crazy Rich Asians series physically : )))*
