Vastavik Kanoon
One day in June
on one road there is blood
A severed finger lies on the road
with an election ink mark on its nail
When fingers were busy with EVMs
choosing there would be rulers
This finger was also there
why is this finger drenched in blood
Where is the body
Is he dead
Who weilded lathis
Was he a policeman
Was there a judge here
Who was the advocate
Who delivered the judgement
Or was he a Godman
Was he a defender of religion
Did he deliver religious sermons
Or was he God himself
I am a responsible citizen
not from police or a journalist
My question is straightforward
I need a straight answer
Who were the people responsible for this
(Onlooker)
I am a small man, sahib
Why should I get involved
I tried to intervene
But got beaten up
They came on motorcycles
Eight to ten goondas wielding lathis
They abused him, kicked him in the stomach
The person fell on the ground
They beat him mercilessly
cracking his leg bones
pounding his flesh to a pulp
I turned away, there was so much blood
One of them, in a fit of rage, whisked out a knife
and cut the election ink finger
He was their kingpin
He proclaimed, this man is a traitor
He has no right to vote
These termites need to be crushed
They will breed and multiply many times
They will overwhelm us
They will rule us
Crush them under your feet
Victory to our religion
I was afraid, sahib
They had no fear
What kind of people were they
They morphed into tigers in a crowd of jackals
They were willing to kill
Nobody dare challenge them
This was no hollow slogan, it was actual law
Dont ask us, ask the severed finger
I thought the finger was dead
But there was still some life in it
The election ink on the nail stood out
celebrating the democracy we live in
The finger said:
Why question me, i cast my vote
Anyway, I was in prison, you gave me death, Shukriya
Democracy is on my nail, caked in blood
No complaint about them
They are the court, they are the law
There were hundreds in the crowd
Stand up as witness, one of you
Then, the justice of the crowd, i will happily accept
Sit on TV panels, discuss this event
What happened to Mohan's promise
Where is Ambedkar
If all are equal, why was i targeted, ruining my family
You people from Delhi
oblivious to the harsh reality
Ponder and speak
You want to investigate, feel free to do it
How do one or two lives matter
They will be discussed for some days
and people will carry on with their lives
Take my advice, if someone asks, who were they
Just tell them, some people on the crowd
If someone persists, what happened, who has done it
Be careful in pointing your finger
for that finger can be cut
Give a turn to your phrase
There was hatred
They didn't have a religion or caste
There were some trouble makers in the crowd.

एक उंगली है पड़ी और उसपे जो नाखून है,
नाखून पर है एक निशां, अब कौन होगा हुक्मरां,
जब चुन रही थी उँगलियाँ, ये ऊँगली भी तब थी वहाँ,
फिर क्यों पड़ी है खून में, जिस्म इसका है कहाँ?
मर गया या था ही ना , कौन थे वो लोग जिनके हाथ में थी लाठियाँ?
कोई अफसर था पुलिस का? न्यायधीश आए थे क्या?
कौन करता था वक़ालत? फ़ैसला किसने दिया?
या कोई धर्मात्मा था? धर्म के रक्षक थे क्या?
धर्म का उपदेश क्या था? कौन थे वो देवता?
न पुलिस न पत्रकार, नागरिक हूँ ज़िम्मेदार,
मेरे सीधे प्रश्न हैं, सीधा उत्तर दो मुझे,
है सड़क पे खून क्यों, आखिर कौन थे?
"आदमी छोटे हैं साहिब, हम क्या पड़ते बीच में,
हम बचाने भी गए थे, तीन पद गए खींच के,
मोटरसाइकिल लाए थे, रोड पर कर दी खड़ी,
आठ-दस लोंडे लपाटे, लाठियां इत्ती बड़ी,
गाली दे के नाम पुछा, पेट में घूँसा दिया,
गिर पड़ा वो अधमरा, फिर दे दाना दन्न लाठियाँ,
पाँव की हड्डी मिटा दी, माँस की लुगदी बना दी,
खून तो इत्ता बहा के हम से देखा ही नहीं गया!!
" एक उनमे होश में था, जाने उसको क्या पड़ी,
जेब से चाक़ू निकला, ऊँगली उसकी काट ली,
आखरी था वार जिसका, वो उनका सरदार था,
उसने ही सबको बताया, जो मरा गद्दार था."
"हक़ नहीं इनको हमारे देश के एक वोट पर,
दीमकों को रखो अगर जूतियों की नोक पर,
सर पे ये चढ़ जाएँगे, ये कई गुना बढ़ जाएँगे,
हुक्मरां होगा इन्ही का, आग मूतेंगे सभी,
पैर के निचे कुचल दो, जीत होगी धर्म की.
"हम तो खुद डर गए थे साहिब, ख़ौफ़ उनको था नहीं,
किस नसल के लोग थे वो कुछ समझ आया नहीं.
न कोई इंसान उनमे, न कोई था आदमी,
साथ मिलके शेर बन गए, गीदड़ों की भीड़ थी,
नोंच खाने की तालाब थी, जानवर तासीर थी,
हाथ में थी लाठियां, तो भैंस भी उनकी ही थी,
और ये कोई जुमला नहीं, वास्तविक कानून है,
अरे हमसे काहे पूछते हो, क्यों सड़क पर खून है?
पूछो इस ऊँगली से तुम, क्या यहाँ घटना घटी,
जुर्म इसने क्या किया था? जिस्म से ये क्यों कटी?"
मैं तो समझा मर चुकी है, उंगली में पर जान थी,
स्याही उस नाखून पे, जो देश का सम्मान थी,
बोली, अब क्या चाहिए? वोट था, दे तो दिया,
जी रहे थे कैद में, मौत दे दी, शुक्रिया.
नाखून पे जम्हूरियत है, जम्म जा है खून भी,
आप हे तो हो अदालत, आप हो कानून भी,
अरे आप से कैसी शिकायत, आप तो हैं नींद में,
आप जैसे सौ खड़े थे जाहिलों की भीड़ में.
सौ में से अगर एक भी देदे गवाही आपको,
मैं ख़ुशी से मान लूंगा भीड़ के इन्साफ को.
कीजिये इसपर बहस अब पैनलों मैं बैठ कर,
क्या हुआ मोहन का वदा? हैं कहाँ अम्बेडकर?
सब बराबर हैं अगर तो बस मुझे हे क्यू चुना?
तुम बताओ, कौन देगा घर को मेरे रोटियां?
असलियत से बेखबर हो, शहरी हो, दिल्ली से हो,
एक हिदायत दे रहा हु, सोच कर बोला करो,
तुम सवालों से भरे हो, पर क्या तुम्हे मालूम है,
भीड़ से कुछ पूछना भी जानलेवा जुर्म है.
तफ्तीश करने आए हो, खुल के कर लो शौख़ से,
फर्क पड़ता ही कहाँ है एक दो की मौत से!
चार दिन चर्चा उठेगी, डेमोक्रेसी लाएँगे,
पाँचवे दिन भूल के, सब काम पे लग जाएंगे.
काम से ही काम रखना, हाँ मगर ये याद रखना,
कोई पूछे कोण थे, बस तुम्हे इतना है कहना,
भीड़ थी, कुछ लोग थे...
फिर भी गर कोई ज़िद्द पकड़ ले, क्या हुआ, किसने किया?
सोच कर उँगली उठाना, काट रही हैं उँगलियाँ!!
बात को कुछ यूँ घूमाना, नफरतों का रोग थे,
धर्म न कोई जात उनकी, भीड़ थी, कुछ लोग थे.

Victory to our religion
I was afraid, sahib
They had no fear
What kind of people were they
They morphed into tigers in a crowd of jackals
They were willing to kill
Nobody dare challenge them
This was no hollow slogan, it was actual law
Dont ask us, ask the severed finger
I thought the finger was dead
But there was still some life in it
The election ink on the nail stood out
celebrating the democracy we live in
The finger said:
Why question me, i cast my vote
Anyway, I was in prison, you gave me death, Shukriya
Democracy is on my nail, caked in blood
No complaint about them
They are the court, they are the law
There were hundreds in the crowd
Stand up as witness, one of you
Then, the justice of the crowd, i will happily accept
Sit on TV panels, discuss this event
What happened to Mohan's promise
Where is Ambedkar
If all are equal, why was i targeted, ruining my family
You people from Delhi
oblivious to the harsh reality
Ponder and speak
You want to investigate, feel free to do it
How do one or two lives matter
They will be discussed for some days
and people will carry on with their lives
Take my advice, if someone asks, who were they
Just tell them, some people on the crowd
If someone persists, what happened, who has done it
Be careful in pointing your finger
for that finger can be cut
Give a turn to your phrase
There was hatred
They didn't have a religion or caste
There were some trouble makers in the crowd.
