    I’m not sure exactly which Ancel code reader I have it has 4 buttons but it just saved my 22 year old F-250 from going to the transmission shop. OD light started flashing after a rough shift from 1 - 2. Then the service engine soon light came on. I thought crap new transmission. I plugged my Ancel code reader in not even expecting it to detect a transmission issue because my check engine light wasn’t on. Took a few attempts to get it to sync properly but it diagnosed a bad speed sensor in the transmission. I removed sensor cleaned connections reset trucks computer. So far it hasn’t happened again. I’m impressed!

    There is a quick way to figure out if it's the O2 sensor (after the cat), or the cat itself (for the 420 code). Most cars have two O2 sensors (one before the cat, and a second after it). Both of them work together to help manage fuel usage/efficiency. If your OB2 reader has a graphing mode, pick both O2 sensors to live graph, and then run the engine. The O2 sensor before the cat should vary voltage up and down while idling (it's reading the emission levels after it leaves the first cylinder, and before it goes through the cat).... and the O2 sensor after the cat should barely fluctuate in voltage IF the cat is actually working as it should. If the second O2 sensor is fluctuating up and down in voltage just like the one before the cat, the cat is likely bad and should be replaced. If the second O2 sensor is staying steady, it could be a bad sensor, which would make it seem like the cat is actually working right... but to make sure, some OBD2 readers/scanners also have the ability to test individual sensors... that way you don't have to swap out a working O2 sensor just to see it it was reading falsely. There are a few videos on YT showing this method to test OB2 sensors/readings.

    OXYGEN SENSOR misdiagnosis - There may be a simple zero cost fix to try first! I have a 2004 Toyota Camry. Over the years, I've had a check engine light at least 4 times. When I had it checked the first time it happened, a Toyota dealership and a repair shop both told me that the O2 sensor was bad and had to be replaced. It's expensive for a cheap guy like me, so I started asking around. Finally, I found someone who told me to check my gas cap. What???? Well,it turns out that a loose or malfunctioning gas cap causes this same error, so I checked. I must have had a mental lapse the last time that I got gas because sure enough, it was loose. I unscrewed it all the way, screws it back in, then drove around for awhile. The check engine light went off. I probably put 20 miles on it before it cleared itself, and I think I had to take at least 2 separate drives, or stop somewhere and shut the engine off. Regardless, if the check engine light never goes out, then I would take it in for replacement when I had a bit more money. I think - I don't know for sure - that a faulty O2 sensor just decreases the performance of the engine, so I would never in a panic to pay to someone to replace it. That's my take on it. By the way, the last time it happened, I bought a replacement gas cap at a parts store for about $25. Big savings over replacement that mechanics said that I NEEDED to fix the problem!! I hope this is the reason that you are getting this error instead of needing new one. Good luck.

    • @Biffo1262
      @Biffo1262 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My garage told me so many O2 sensors are replaced needlessly it would seem many garages are using it as a cash cow or simply do not know their jobs. It is an indicator there is an issue NOT that it is a faulty sensor so you have other checks to do before replacing the sensor otherwise the issue will still exist and you have paid for something you didn't need.

      No, gloves are not required to operate an OBD-II, most likely he was working on something prior to the video or about to work on something post recording.

      Maybe the uploader was wrenching and left gloves on. Grease is hard on skin to get off.

      yeah, I'm sure they meant you can just turn the accessories on, don't have to actually crank up the engine to pull codes. If you want to scan the engine, then you crank it up.

    WARNING: Do not use this scanner without gloves, goggles, hazmat suit & a hard hat!
    Line the hard hat with Aluminum foil for best results. A lubricated full body cond0m is reccommended for those with sensitive skin.
