The piece of wood that goes at the bottom of the cabinet is known as your toe kick. It protects the bottom of the cabinets and it makes it look streamline.
Megan. Build a platform under the frig a couple inches. You have the room at the top. It will give you a little more room at the bottom. Then change the floor trim to a smaller trim height. Problem solved. It will be a lot of work but I think it will resolve both problems. The extra space at the top and the trim problem at the bottom.
@@lovinglifeasmegan Something though is your freezer weight when opening since its elevated would it cause the freezer drawer to snap/ weaken? If its not an issue get a plain flat trim like your toe kick (doesn't have to be as thin and just adjust your base to accomodate a thicker peice) Use liquid nails and nails to hold it in place. And the wall that they shorted your baseboard carry it to the very end.
@lovinglifeasmegan The trim would end at the platform. Thr trim would end at it. Then use the same materials that are under the bottom of the lower cabinets to cover the front of the platform.
I was thinking that you have a thick side to the left of the fridge...could that be removed and then slide the fridge an inch or so to the left...? leaving room for the trim to go all the way in..
I know it would be extra labor but…remove the cabinet above your refrigerator and then take down the tall end panel to the left of it. Cut that tall end panel down to just 3/4” wide and then put both it and the cabinet back up. You’ll need a filler piece to the right of the cabinet next to the wall. That should give you more room for your refrigerator to operate.
Happy for you guys that this is finished! It looks fabulous! Hope you are still loving it-I’m late and had to come search for this video. 😉 LIFE has had me away from YT quite a bit these last several months.

The Kitchen looks beautiful and I love the decor!! ❤ I watch a lot of million dollar home architecture videos and I noticed a lot of them do not have base molding. Maybe just take it off and patch the wall up make it nice and smooth. Paint it. If the small gap bothers you maybe find some kind of wood small you could stick in the hole. 😊

Hi Tiffany I really loved the video!!! The length of it was great. I just put you on my phone while I cleaned, felt like I had a partner in cleaning ☺️
So sorry to hear about the excess costs. They do say add 10-20% to your budget for those unforeseen costs. However, having an agreement/ contract in place is soo important. Also a good contractor usually works or has a team of trusted qualified plumbers, electricians and gas fitters that they regularly work with. Do not trust one who claims that they can do everything, it usually means that they are just glorified handymen/persons. And it’s OK to challenge them on their quality of work, it is your hard earned money after all. Awesome kitchen!😊👍

Just buy an appliance riser for the refrigerator. Omg, years ago I had art work (2 pictures of lemons) for my kitchen, they were in beautiful wooden frames they looked expensive. I bought them on clearance. Your picture reminds me of them.
I LOVE this kitchen! It's so bright and so cute! I design kitchens for a living - As for your fridge, I would have switched the 3drw to something smaller, 12" or 9" when possible. That way, you can move the fridge away from the wall. I'm not sure why your installers didn't say that it's like... rule number one of kitchen design; appliances against walls should have at least 3" of space between it and the wall. The install company we use will refuse to install if even one NKBA (National Kitchen & Bath Association) "law" is broken lol. Plus, it allows room for trims and pull-out freezers. Also, since your fridge (if one door) would be right hinged, it would allow enough room for it to open without fear of damage to the wall or hindering the ability to fully open the fridge. It's the same with two door refrigerators as well. Now. What to do now that it's all installed... I think the easiest solution is just to switch to a plainer molding. Something flatter. Or switch out that 3drw.
It looks amazing! You have such a great eye. This is probably the wrong answer, but to be honest, I would probably do the same thing to the missing trim area that you did to the backsplash. I would just spackle and paint it for now to give yourself time to think about it.
Megan! It’s as pretty as I thought it would be! The floor is the star, and it shines! Love the new faucet, too. Didn’t the issue with the base trim come up because of a measuring issue on your cabinets and fridge? It seems like I remember something like that. (Man, it has been a long renovation). I probably would have cried every day. The only thing I can think of with the base trim is cut a piece the exact size, and put it down using Velcro or some other double sided tape. You’ll have to take the trim piece off whenever you open the freezer, and that will be a pain, but it could work until you can get a professional’s opinion. That is a mistake that shouldn’t have happened, but you still have a beautiful kitchen.
The first contractor we had measured incorrectly, so the cabinets were too tight for our appliances and we had to either eat the cost of the cabinets & order more (we didn’t do that), or buy new appliances…which we did. The second contractor told us the appliances would fit, but forgot to account for trim…so then he said he had a solution for it, but left the project without completing that, and without completing a lot of the finishing work. It was such a nightmare and I did cry quite a bit throughout this entire process. 😭
@@lovinglifeasmegan Girl, when I watched some of those videos, I cried with you. I bought a huge house a few years ago. A complete gut job. I fired 4 contractors, one came to work high, and he was putting in floor joists for the 2nd floor. I walked under the joist, and it fell, putting a hole in the sub floor and missed my head by maybe 2 inches. So, almost 4 years later, (covid during 2), I am living in 4 rms in the back of the house, no kitchen and no central heat or air. I’m never going to hire anyone in my area again, and I’m trying to just unload it for what I paid for it. Worst financial mistake I’ve ever made. The best thing for me would be having a tornado take it out. I wish I was kidding. I’m glad you finally got through your reno, and it looks awesome.
@@iamjane9628 Thank you. I joke I have PTSD over this mess, but this has been a nightmare since the first contractor walked through the door. I probable could have unloaded it easily if covid hadn’t happened, but any construction is our area has stopped. It’s a very low income county in our state to begin with, so no one wants to risk building here. I blame HGTV for making a renovation look sooo easy😄
@@bevalexander5897 I'm with you regarding HGTV. We had a painter do some work in our house recently. He said he has seen so many bad DIY jobs as a result of people watching HGTV, being fooled into thinking it is easy, and then attempting projects that are beyond their abilities. You hired professional help and still had a disaster situation. Not your fault, obviously. Based on experiences with our home, I am beginning to question the wisdom of owning a house. It's a never ending cycle of spend and fix, followed by the next thing needing repairs or updating. I think I am ready to rent an apartment. I "enjoy" reading the comments on these videos to see if I am alone in this sentiment. I don't think I am. :( Best wishes to you. I really do empathize.
The kitchen transformation really looks amazing!! In terms of the missing trim piece near the refrigerator ~~ I would call the contractor and either ask them to come and finish installing the missing moulding or ask them for a piece that matches what they installed in the length that you need. Why would you ever accept them to not finish the job? Anyone can see that there is additional trim needed so they should have definitely installed it or left you materials to finish it yourself if it was necessary for it to be left on until you got your refrigerator in place (or for whatever reason that it was left in an unfinished state).
Don’t you think that if having the contractor finish the work we would have had them do that? I thought I did a great job explaining in the video that the contractor was not a good one, and advising anyone watching to learn from our mistake & do your due-diligence when hiring a professional. We were not aware that we had options because our insurance made it seem as though we had to hire their recommended contractor, and that was a massive mistake on our part.
The fridge has that built in look. Can you remove the panel that is going up the left hand side of your refrigerator (cut it off at the bottom of the upper cabinet) and then you can move the fridge over To give you room for the trim piece? Or cut the bottom of that part of the drywall off (or taper it down as it goes toward fridge) and then set your trim in there.
This Kitchen Makeover has been such a long time coming! I’m so happy to finally have a functioning kitchen again, and to be able to share the entire process with all of you!

Now. What to do now that it's all installed... I think the easiest solution is just to switch to a plainer molding. Something flatter. Or switch out that 3drw.
We can’t switch out the 3 drawer
It looks amazing! You have such a great eye. This is probably the wrong answer, but to be honest, I would probably do the same thing to the missing trim area that you did to the backsplash. I would just spackle and paint it for now to give yourself time to think about it.
That’s starting to sound like the best idea right now 😅
Looks beautiful!!
Thank you!
@@bevalexander5897 OMG. I am so sorry this happened to you.
Megan your kithen looks absolutely gorgeous it's stunning Annmarie UK xx 😘
Thank you 🤗
Beautiful decor ❤
Thank you!
No, we can’t do any of that 😫
Megan, look gorgeous! About the fridge, have you considered doing recessed baseboards? I love the look of them.
I’ve never even heard of those 😳 I’ll have to do some research!
Very good video👏👏👏👏
Thank you ❤️
