    THANK YOU Clint & Vera,
    Adding the video to your outstanding method of teaching folks quality flute playing techniques is quite helpful. The addition of the video makes it even easier to learn how to perform the playing techniques you are teaching. I also appreciate your willingness to freely share the vast amount of knowledge you have about the Native American flute. Whenever I am asked a question that I am not able to, I do one of two things I tell folks upload & do a search on your Flutopedia web site or I go to your web site to get the answer to the question that was asked.
    Keep up the good work that you & Vera do it is very much appreciated & it is also very much needed.
    In peace,
    Joe

    We've found that a lot of people know playing single chirps or "grace notes", but many have not tried them rhythmically ... I hope this helps!

    Just added Close Captioning in English for this video. Seems to work well! If it proves useful, hoping to provide other languages down the road ...

      +wulfina moon Thanks for the feedback! We will be using this "highlight the sheet music" technique in the next several FluteCasts, which will feature two important songs for our flutes - Taps and Amazing Grace.

    Thank you, Clint, for posting this video demonstrating the chirping technique. I have recently purchased one of George Dyson, Jr.'s flutes, and am just beginning to learn to play it. Your instructions are very clear and useful. Watching your video encourages me to keep trying.

      @ClintGoss  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Debbie Morman ... glad the video was useful! Yes, by all means keep trying ... and even more important - keep listening ... The thing I don't say in the video is to add an expressive component to your playing - technique is nothing compared to adding your own emotion and expression!

      Clint Goss I will have to keep that in mind. Mostly, when I pick up my flutes, I just zone out and let the sounds come.

    Who are the best flute maker for your self?

  • @OtterLakeFlutes
    @OtterLakeFlutes 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks! Seems like some chirps (esp.singe, occasional, or even isolated ones) have this extra "toik" or "twok" I'm trying to get, too. Must be a low to a high and maybe back low again instantaneously?

    • @ClintGoss
      @ClintGoss  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may depend on the characteristics of the flute you are playing ...

    Clint, I have been using the left hand's 3 fingers for the lower 3 holes and
    right 3 fingers for the upper three holes.
    I didn't notice it earlier, but now I do. I also found you and almost all other people teaching and playing are doing it the other way, the way you do it.
    I am a right handed beginner.
    Do you think I should switch and that it might make a difference ?
    i also feel that my playing sounds a bit of repeated patterns from yesterday.

      Samir ... I would consider swapping hands. There are thoughts on exactly this issue in the FluteCast video "Native American Flute Basics #1". (th-cam.com/video/iZpJSSsJ5Nk/w-d-xo.html) If you don't want to watch the whole 25 minute video, you could skip to time 9:30. (th-cam.com/video/iZpJSSsJ5Nk/w-d-xo.html&t=576s). I hope this helps!

      We're always open to leading a workshop anywhere in the world. Led workshops in Honduras, Switzerland, and New Zealand. Did a recording project in Zambia. We worked in Calcutta (technical assistance, not music) for a few months and would love to return!

    Hello, Clint.
    I'm not familiar with any e-mailing that would be near equal to your . Your newsletters are wonderful! With video, it will be doubly wonderful! Exactly recently I thought to write you about the idea to add videos to your texts. I think you may well create two parallel lists for e-mailing: one - as it is, and the other - with videos, the first - free of charge, the second - paid. It could be something "symbolic" (eg 0.5-1 $ / month) that however will give a lot of subscribers and will give some real income. And I think that it is possible to make videos not only for future mailings, but also for the past!
    In any case, thank you very much for your e-mail in general and for the video in particular!
    (excuse for my english)

      David Sandomirsky Thank you so much for your thoughts! Adding videos to our text emails is hopefully something we can swing as much as possible. Maybe too for past topics, if we can spare the time. Having a pay-for-viewing ... well, we're not sure we can swing the extra work it would take to "market" these videos and try to monetize them. People reward us (and encourage us) when they come to our workshop events, buy our music in CD or on-line, or even play us on Pandora (which does pay a bit for each play), and for us that is great. Things like Flutopedia.com and these newsletter topics and articles in Voice of the Wind and such ... they're really for all to freely take what they can out of them ... THANKS again for your kind words!
